Overview

The Suraielec 7-Day Digital Box Timer Switch (SKU: T40D) is a versatile and robust device designed to automate the control of electrical loads over a weekly cycle. This timer switch is intended for use in various applications, including hot water heaters, lighting, and other electrical appliances, offering both convenience and energy savings through scheduled operation.

Function Description

At its core, the Suraielec T40D functions as a programmable digital timer switch. It allows users to set specific ON and OFF times for connected electrical devices over a 7-day period, with the flexibility to program up to 20 distinct ON/OFF settings. The device automatically detects the input voltage (120-240/277VAC, 60Hz), eliminating the need for manual DIP switch settings, which simplifies installation and reduces the potential for error.

The timer's internal mechanism ensures precise timing, with a minimum ON or OFF time of 1 minute and a maximum of 23 hours and 59 minutes. This granular control enables users to tailor schedules to their exact needs, optimizing energy consumption by ensuring devices are only active when required.

Usage Features

The Suraielec T40D is designed for ease of use, from installation to daily programming and operation.

  • Mounting and Wiring: The device features combination knockouts (1/2" to 3/4") for flexible conduit connections. Clear instructions are provided for preparing these knockouts, whether for 1/2" or 3/4" conduits. The timer box is mounted vertically using three designated holes, ensuring proper orientation for rainproof operation. Wiring involves connecting to a terminal strip, with diagrams provided for common applications such as controlling one or two 120VAC loads, or a single 240VAC load, and even 277VAC loads. A crucial step is to connect the grounded wire to the grounding terminal, emphasizing safety.

  • Initial Setup and Programming: Before initial use, the timer requires a brief charging period (at least 30 minutes) to power its internal battery. Once charged, the unit is ready for programming. The first step involves a full reset using a paper clip or ballpoint pen to clear any previous settings, ensuring a clean slate for new programming.

  • Setting Current Time: Users can easily set the current time by pressing and holding the "CLOCK" button while adjusting hours, minutes, and the day of the week. This intuitive process ensures the timer's internal clock is synchronized with real-world time.

  • ON/OFF Program Setting: The core functionality lies in setting the ON/OFF programs. By pressing the "PROG" button, users can cycle through up to 20 available ON/OFF settings. For each setting, specific ON and OFF times can be defined using the "HOUR" and "MIN" buttons. The "WEEK" button allows for flexible scheduling, enabling users to select individual days, groups of days (e.g., weekdays, weekends), or all seven days for a particular program. This flexibility caters to diverse scheduling requirements.

  • Resetting Individual Programs: If a specific ON/OFF setting needs to be cleared without affecting others, the "R/RECALL" button can be used. This feature allows for quick adjustments to individual programs without the need to scroll through all hours, streamlining the programming process.

  • Switching Mode Indication: The timer's display clearly indicates its current operating mode: "ON," "AUTO ON," "OFF," or "AUTO OFF." The "ON/AUTO/OFF" button allows users to manually cycle through these modes, providing immediate control over the connected load. "ON" means the device is always on, "OFF" means it's always off, "AUTO ON" indicates the timer is currently on and following its programmed schedule, and "AUTO OFF" means it's currently off and following its schedule. This manual override capability is useful for temporary changes without altering the programmed schedule.

  • Daylight Saving Time (DST): The Suraielec T40D includes a convenient feature for adjusting to Daylight Saving Time. By pressing and holding the "CLOCK" button for 3 seconds, the current time can be advanced by one hour, indicated by a "+1h" icon. Repeating this action will decrease the time by one hour and remove the icon, simplifying seasonal time changes.

Maintenance Features

While primarily a "set it and forget it" device, the Suraielec T40D incorporates features that contribute to its reliability and ease of maintenance.

  • Power Back-up Feature: In the event of a power failure, the timer is equipped with an internal battery that retains all programmed settings for an estimated three months, provided the battery is fully charged. This eliminates the need for reprogramming after short-term power outages, ensuring continuous automated control.

  • Durable Construction: The device is housed in a robust enclosure designed to withstand typical operating conditions. The instruction to "KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED AT ALL TIMES when not servicing" highlights the importance of protecting the internal components from environmental factors, contributing to the timer's longevity.

  • Safety Guidelines: The manual emphasizes critical safety precautions, such as turning off power at the main panel before installation or servicing, disconnecting power at the circuit breaker, and adhering to national and local electrical code requirements. These guidelines are crucial for safe operation and maintenance. The use of appropriate wire gauges (#14-#8 AWG copper conductors rated at least 75°C) and ensuring proper terminal connections (no wire insulation under the terminal plate, firmly tightened screws) are also stressed, which are fundamental to preventing electrical hazards and ensuring reliable performance.

In summary, the Suraielec 7-Day Digital Box Timer Switch is a user-friendly, programmable device that offers precise control over electrical loads, contributing to energy efficiency and convenience in various settings. Its thoughtful design, including clear programming steps, manual override, and power backup, makes it a reliable solution for automated electrical management.
