Usage Features:
- Getting Started: Before first use, all packaging should be removed, and the water tank, milk tank, porta-filter, filters, and coffee spoon should be washed in warm soapy water, rinsed, and dried.
- Priming the Unit: The machine must be primed before first use by filling both water and milk tanks with water, inserting a filter into the porta-filter, placing a cup, plugging in, turning on, and then pressing the cappuccino button twice after the control panel lights become solid.
- Water Tank Filling: The water tank can be filled directly with a jar or removed and filled under a tap. It's crucial to ensure the water level is between the "MIN" and "MAX" markings. Using warm or hot water is not recommended.
- Milk Tank Filling: For cappuccino or latte, the milk tank should be removed, filled with cold milk between the "MIN" and "MAX" levels, and then securely placed back in the unit. Various milk types (whole, low-fat, organic, soy) can be used.
- Filter Selection: Users can choose between a shallow filter for a single espresso shot or a deeper filter for a double shot. ESE pods can also be used.
- Coffee Grinding: For optimal results, freshly ground, dark roasted coffee is recommended. The grind should be fine, resembling salt. Too fine a grind can impede water flow, while too coarse a grind results in fast flow and weak extraction.
- Filling with Coffee: The selected filter should be placed in the porta-filter, filled with fresh, fine ground espresso coffee (not overfilled beyond the MAX mark), tamped firmly and evenly, and any excess coffee from the rim cleaned.
- Fitting the Porta-filter: The porta-filter is attached underneath the brew head by aligning its handle with the open lock icon, turning it to the right until it aligns with the closed lock symbol.
- Cup Placement: The drip tray bracket can be pulled out for small cups (demitasse) or kept inside for larger cups used for cappuccino or latte.
- Frothing Tube Adjustment: For cappuccino or latte, the frothing tube lever can be adjusted to position the milk dispensing tube inside the cup and its length can be adapted for different cup sizes. The frothing tube can also be removed for cleaning.
- Turning On: The unit is turned on via a switch on the right-hand side. The six control panel lights will blink during heating and become solid when ready.
- Beverage Selection:
- Espresso: Press the top coffee button once for a single cup, twice for a double cup, or press and hold for 3 seconds for a large cup. The unit stops automatically, but can be stopped manually by pressing the button again.
- Cappuccino: Turn the froth control knob on the milk tank to the middle position (adjustable for more/less froth). Press the Cappuccino Button once for a small cup, twice for a large cup.
- Latte: Adjust the froth control knob as desired. Press the Latte Button once for a small cup, twice for a large cup.
- Frothed Milk Only: Press and hold the Cappuccino Button for 3 seconds to prepare frothed milk only, useful for macchiato, hot chocolate, or tea latte. Press the button again to stop.
- Milk Storage: After preparing milk-based beverages, the milk reservoir can be stored in the refrigerator or leftover milk disposed of.
Maintenance Features:
- General Cleaning: The coffee maker housing should be cleaned with a moisture-proof sponge. The water tank, drip tray, and removable shelf should be cleaned regularly and dried. Alcohol or solvent cleansers should not be used, and the housing should not be immersed in water. All attachments should be cleaned and dried thoroughly.
- Water Tank Hygiene: Water should not be left in the tank for more than 2 days to prevent microbial growth.
- Milk Reservoir and Frothing Tube Cleaning:
- Remove the milk reservoir and its lid from the unit.
- The steam tube connector can be detached by rotating and cleaned under tap water.
- The silicon cover of the milk reservoir can be opened (not pulled out) and washed under tap water.
- Rinse and wash the milk reservoir and lid thoroughly with warm soapy water. Abrasive cleaners and scouring pads should not be used. The milk reservoir is dishwasher safe (top rack), but the lid is not.
- Place an empty large cup under the frothing tube.
- Turn the Froth Control Knob clockwise to the "clean" position, then press and hold the latte/clean button for 3 seconds. The unit will release steam until no milk is seen in the cup. Press the latte/clean button again to stop.
- Brew Head, Porta-filter, and Filter Cleaning:
- Switch off the unit and unplug.
- Allow hot metal parts to cool.
- Remove the porta-filter, discard grounds/pod. Wash porta-filter and filter with warm soapy water and rinse well. Do not wash in a dishwasher.
- Wipe the lower part of the brew head with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove coffee grounds.
- Place the porta-filter (without filter) back in the brew head.
- Place an empty large cup under the porta-filter.
- Press the espresso button once to brew with water only until it stops automatically.
- Descaling:
- Lime scale buildup can damage the machine, especially the frothing tube. Pre-filtered or bottled water is recommended.
- The appliance will remind the user to descale when needed (six indicators flashing alternately).
- To descale: Fill the water tank with 600ml clean water and descaling solution. Press Espresso and Latte buttons simultaneously to enter descaling mode. The indicators will slowly flash. After about half an hour, they will quickly flash.
- Empty and refill the water tank with 600ml clean water. Press Espresso and Latte buttons simultaneously again. The descaling process will continue for another half an hour, then the appliance will return to standby.
- The descaling warning can be canceled by pressing any functional button, but it will reappear after each use until a full descaling cycle is completed.
- Default descaling trigger: 500 cycles. Recommended: Hard water after 40 cycles, Soft water after 80 cycles.
- Unplug the machine and allow it to cool completely before descaling.
Troubleshooting (Symptom/Cause/Remedy):
- Coffee doesn't come out: Tank empty, coffee grind too fine, coffee too compressed. Remedy: Fill tank, use medium grind coffee, don't compress too hard.
- Coffee comes from edge of porta-filter: Coffee powder on filter edge. Remedy: Clean it off.
- Milk not foamy/not coming out of frothing tube: Out of steam, milk not cold enough, frothing tube blocked. Remedy: Fill water tank, chill milk, clean milk tank and frothing tube.
- Coffee comes out too quickly: Ground coffee too coarse, not enough coffee. Remedy: Use medium grind, add more coffee.
- Weak coffee: Wrong filter fitted, coffee too coarse. Remedy: Fit appropriate filter, use finer coffee.
- Control lights flashing: Tank is empty. Remedy: Fill tank.
