2 Product description
2.1 Features
The induction impulse transmitters IG325/2 evaluate the
loops in the ground. Those depict the inductivity of a high-
frequency oscillator circuit. If a vehicle crosses the loop,
its metal components cause a change of frequency in the
oscillator circuit. These are analysed by the loop detector,
transmitted as switching signals via floating relay contacts
and displayed on the front LEDs. The analysis of the loop
frequency is done via a micro-processor system which
aligns automatically to the according loop and compen-
sates changes of the loop inductivity caused by tempera-
ture, humidity or aging of components.
The 2-channel induction impulse transmitter IG325/2
analyses two loops in multiplex process. Since only one
loop at a time is active, interference is avoided even when
loops are interlaced.
2.2 Switching outputs
The switching outputs are coupled with the LED display
(channel1: A; channel2: H) on the front panel (see 4). For
each channel there is one switching output available, for
which the status “loop occupied” can be switched (chan-
nel1 – channel2). The special models STV resp. STT have
one further switching output for the fault reports (ERROR),
which are activated when at least one channel is faulty.
All switching outputs are equipped with electro-mechanical
relays.

2.3 Parameter adjustment
Via the DIP-switches on the front the following parameters
can be adjusted:
sensitivity
hold time
frequency of the measuring system
switch-off delay
directional logic
impulse when leaving the loop
switch-on delay
automatic alignment

Overview

The IG325/2 is an inductive impulse transmitter designed for vehicle detection, operating by evaluating loops embedded in the ground. These loops form part of a high-frequency oscillator circuit. When a vehicle passes over a loop, its metal components cause a change in the oscillator's frequency. This frequency change is then analyzed by the loop detector, which transmits switching signals via floating relay contacts and displays them on the front LEDs. The device utilizes a micro-processor system for frequency analysis, automatically aligning to the loop and compensating for changes in loop inductivity caused by environmental factors like temperature, humidity, or component aging.

The IG325/2 is a 2-channel device, capable of analyzing two loops in a multiplex process. This means only one loop is active at a time, preventing interference even when loops are interlaced.

  • Operating Frequency Range (L = 15 µH – 400 µH): 20.05 kHz < f < 70 kHz
  • Total Inductivity (loop + feed cable): Ltotal < 400 µH

Usage Features:

  • Switching Outputs: The device provides switching outputs coupled with LED displays (channel 1: A; channel 2: H) on the front panel. For each channel, one switching output indicates "loop occupied." Special models (STV, STT) include an additional switching output for fault reports (ERROR), activated when at least one channel is faulty. All switching outputs use electro-mechanical relays.
  • Parameter Adjustment (via DIP-switches on the front):
    • Sensitivity: Adjustable per channel.
      • IG325/2 S.T./W.T./ST.T.: 7 levels from High 0.01 to Low 0.9 (adjustment of frequency in %)
      • IG325/2 S.V./W.V./ST.V.: 4 levels from High 0.01 to Low 0.9
    • Hold Time:
      • IG325/2 S.T./W.T./ST.T.: Impulse mode 100 ms (optional 1 s) and static hold time.
      • IG325/2 S.V./W.V./ST.V.: 4 levels (0.1 s; 4.5 min; 2 h; ∞)
    • Alignment: Automatic after power-on or pushing the reset switch.
    • Output: Floating relay contact (Umax = 250 V, Imax = 2 A, Pmax = 60 W resistive load).
    • Switch-off Delay: The switching signal is switched off with a 2-second delay after the loop is vacant (not in impulse mode).
    • Directional Logic: When active, the detector registers attenuation of the first loop without switching a relay. The relay for the last attenuated channel switches only if the second loop is attenuated simultaneously, remaining switched until the second loop clears. This applies to both directions.
    • Impulse when leaving the loop: The detector switches the channel-relay only after the loop is vacant. This is active only if the channel status impulse mode is also chosen.
    • Switch-on Delay: The switching signal is emitted when the loop is attenuated for more than one second.
    • Automatic Alignment when fault: If a loop fault occurs, the detector automatically realigns after approximately 12 seconds. If the fault persists, the detector continues to try aligning until the fault is eliminated. Relays and LEDs remain in "fault" position until alignment.
    • Detection by fault: A loop fault is indicated on the LEDs, and the corresponding channel relay is switched on. If combined with "Automatic Alignment when fault," "Automatic Alignment" must be off, otherwise the detector realigns after 12 seconds, and a vehicle on the loop might not be detected.
  • Frequency Adjustment: The frequency switch (G) S1-S2 allows adjustment to avoid couplings from nearby loops. Multiple detectors must not operate on the same frequency.
  • Displays:
    • Red LED: Loop failure
    • Green LED: Detection
    • Yellow LED: Blinking during alignment/power, solid when aligned.
  • Safety Circuit Loop Input: Galvanic separation by transmitter, glow lamp.

Maintenance Features:

  • Alignment: The loop detector automatically aligns itself to connected loops upon power-on, after voltage interruptions, or when the reset switch (E) is pushed. During alignment, the yellow power-LED (F) blinks. After alignment, it glows steadily. No vehicle should be on the loop during alignment.
  • Fault Diagnosis:
    • Detector does not align, yellow LED does not glow: Check connection to power supply.
    • Red LED glowing, green LED blinking long, long, long: Detector detects "loop interrupted." Check loop and loop connection.
    • Red LED glowing, green LED blinking short, long, short: Detector detects "loop short-circuited." Check loop and loop connection.
    • Yellow and green LEDs glowing, relay permanently tightened:
      • Possible cause: Test mode relay tightened is active. Correction: Deactivate test mode (see table "Adjustment of sensitivity and hold time").
      • Possible cause: Loop is moved mechanically. Correction: Control laying of loop, observe documentation "Laying of loops."
    • Detector does not switch in spite of effected alignment, chosen sensitivity is too low: Deactivate test mode (see table "Adjustment of sensitivity and hold time"). Progressively increase sensitivity until vehicles are detected correctly.
    • Yellow LED continuously blinking:
      • Possible cause: Vehicle movement on the loop. Correction: Keep loop clear during alignment.
      • Possible cause: Electromagnetic coupling onto the loop. Correction: Eliminate cause of coupling, observe documentation "Laying of loops."
  • Reset Button (E): After every device adjustment or correction of an error, the reset button (E) must be pushed to initiate a new alignment.

Installation Notes:

  • The device must be plugged onto its socket before switching on the power supply.
  • Proper installation and laying of the loops are crucial for safe functioning. The loop feed cable should be drilled approximately 20-50 times per meter and laid at a distance from live wires. Further information is available in "Laying of Loops" documentation.
  • For environments with higher protection requirements, SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS offers special enclosures (type GHIG300 / GHIG301).

Compliance:

  • The IG325/2 is solely suited for vehicle detection. Any other usage is inappropriate.
  • The device complies with ETSI EN 300330-1 (2002-12) requirements. For the antenna factor (loop area A in m² multiplied by the number of loop windings N), N*A ≤ 60 m² is imperative.
  • The device complies with DIN EN 60950 requirements and has basic insulation.
  • The device is CE marked, indicating conformity with the R&TTE Directive 1999/5/EC.
