This document describes the BM8501 Bread Maker, an electrical appliance designed for household use to automate the bread-making process.
Function Description
The bread maker is a versatile appliance capable of performing various functions related to bread and other food preparation. Its primary function is to mix, knead, rise, and bake bread automatically. The control panel features a "MENU" button to select from 19 pre-programmed settings, including:
- Basic bread: For white and mixed breads, primarily using basic bread flour.
- Quick bread: Shorter kneading, rising, and baking times than basic bread, resulting in a denser interior. Uses baking powder and baking soda.
- Sweet bread: For breads with added sugar, coconut, raisins, or dry fruits, featuring a longer rising phase for a light and airy texture.
- French bread: For light breads made from fine flour, typically fluffy with a crispy crust. Not suitable for recipes requiring butter, margarine, or milk.
- Whole-wheat bread: For breads with significant amounts of whole-wheat flour, requiring a longer preheat time for grain expansion. Not recommended with the delay function.
- Rice bread: Incorporates cooked rice into the flour (1:1 ratio).
- Gluten-free bread: For gluten-free flours and baking mixtures, which require longer liquid uptake and have different rising properties.
- Dessert: Kneading and baking foods with more fat and protein.
- Mix: Stirring function to thoroughly combine flour and liquids.
- Dough: Prepares yeast dough for buns, pizza crusts, etc., without baking.
- Knead: Kneading only, without rising or baking, used for pizza doughs, etc.
- Cake: Kneading, rising, and baking with the aid of soda or baking powder.
- Jam: For making jams from fresh fruits and marmalades. Users are cautioned not to overfill the bread pan.
- Yogurt: Fermentation to make yogurt.
- Bake: Additional baking for breads that are too light or not baked through, without kneading or resting.
- Sticky rice: Kneading and baking a mix of polished glutinous rice and rice.
- Rice wine: Rising and baking polished glutinous rice.
- Defrost: For defrosting frozen food before cooking.
- Stir-fry: Kneading and baking dry fruits like peanuts and soybeans.
The appliance also includes a "CRUST COLOR" button for selecting light, medium, or dark crust settings (adjustable for programs 1-7), and a "WEIGHT" button to choose gross weights of 500g, 750g, or 1000g (adjustable for programs 1-7). A "DELAY TIMER" feature allows users to set a delayed start for up to 15 hours, including the baking time.
Important Technical Specifications
- Power Supply: Before use, ensure the wall outlet voltage matches the rating plate. The appliance has a polarized, grounded plug.
- Temperature Range: The machine operates optimally in a room temperature range of 15°C to 34°C.
- Safety Features:
- Automatic power-off in case of power outage (continues within 10 minutes; resets after 15 minutes).
- "HHH" warning for high internal temperature, requiring a cool-down period.
- "EE0" warning for a disconnected temperature sensor, requiring professional service.
- Capacity: Supports bread weights of 500g, 750g, and 1000g for certain programs.
- Display: LCD display shows program number, time, weight, and crust color settings.
- Audible Alerts: Beeps indicate program start, add-in timing, and completion.
Usage Features
- Initial Setup: Before first use, wash and dry the bread pan and kneading paddle. Run the bread maker empty on bake mode for 10 minutes to eliminate manufacturing odors, then clean all parts again.
- Ingredient Measurement: Emphasizes exact measurement using measuring cups and spoons. Ingredients should be added in a specific order: liquids first, then dry ingredients, and finally yeast (separated from liquids and salt).
- Operation:
- Place the bread pan into the appliance, turning clockwise to lock.
- Push the kneading paddle onto the drive shaft.
- Add ingredients in the specified order.
- Plug in the appliance; it defaults to Program 1 ("3:00" displayed, "750g" and "MEDIUM" selected).
- Select desired program, weight, and crust color using the respective buttons.
- Set the delay timer if needed (not for perishable ingredients).
- Press "START/STOP" to begin. The indicator lights up, and the colon flashes.
- For add-ins (fruits, nuts, raisins), the machine will beep at the appropriate time (programs 1-7).
- Upon completion, the machine beeps 10 times and shifts to a 1-hour "Keep Warm" setting.
- Bread Removal: After baking, allow the bread pan to cool slightly. Use oven mitts to unlock and lift the bread pan. Gently shake the pan upside down to release the bread onto a wire cooling rack. If the kneading paddle remains in the bread, carefully pry it out with a spatula.
- Slicing: Allow bread to cool for about 20 minutes before slicing with an electric or dentate cutter to prevent deformation.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning:
- Disconnect power and allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning.
- Do not immerse the cord, plug, or housing in liquid.
- Kneading Paddle: If difficult to remove from bread, soak the bread pan in water for up to 1 hour. Wipe with a damp cotton cloth. Dishwasher-safe.
- Bread Pan: Remove by turning counter-clockwise. Wipe inside and outside with a damp cloth. Avoid sharp or abrasive agents to protect the non-stick coating. Ensure it is completely dry before reinstallation. Dishwasher-safe (discoloration of the outside and base is normal).
- Housing and Top Lid: Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not immerse the housing in water. Disassembling the lid for cleaning is not recommended.
- Storage: Before storing, ensure the bread maker is completely cooled, clean, dry, and the lid is closed.
- Servicing: Any servicing beyond routine cleaning should be performed by an authorized service representative.
- Yeast Check: To verify yeast freshness, mix 1 cup (237ml) warm water (45-50°C) with 1 teaspoon (5ml) white sugar and 1 tablespoon (15ml) yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes without stirring. Active yeast will bubble or "grow."
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide covering common issues like odor, incomplete blending, error displays ("HHH", "EE0"), condensation, paddle removal, dough consistency, bread rise problems, and crust color. Solutions typically involve checking ingredient measurements, proper installation of parts, allowing the unit to cool, or selecting the correct program.
