Do you have a question about the SystemAir SAVE VSC 200 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The SAVE VSC 200/300 is a residential air handling unit designed to provide fresh indoor air and extract used indoor air, ensuring a healthy and comfortable living environment. This unit is controlled via either the SAVE LIGHT or SAVE TOUCH control panel, or through the SAVE CONNECT mobile application, offering flexibility in operation and monitoring.

Function Description

The primary function of the SAVE VSC 200/300 is to manage airflow within a residential space. It continuously supplies fresh air and extracts stale air, contributing to improved indoor air quality. The unit features a heat exchanger that recovers energy from the extracted air to pre-heat the incoming fresh air, enhancing energy efficiency.

The unit operates with various airflow levels, including Off, Low (Minimum), Normal, High, Refresh (Maximum), and Auto. In "Off" mode, the fans are stopped, which is generally not recommended for standard households unless dampers are in place to prevent cold drafts and condensation. "Low," "Normal," and "High" modes allow for manual selection of fan speeds at 25%, 45%, and 70% respectively. The "Refresh" mode sets both supply and extract fans to maximum levels for a short period (1 hour) to quickly replace indoor air with fresh air, after which it returns to the previously active mode. The "Auto" mode provides automatic airflow control, available when Week Schedule, Demand Control functions, or external fan control settings are active.

The SAVE VSC 200/300 also incorporates temperature control. Users can set a desired supply air temperature, and the unit will work to maintain it. An "ECO mode" is available as a power-saving function, which partially limits heater operation and can only be activated if a heater is installed. This mode prioritizes economy over comfort.

Usage Features

The SAVE VSC 200/300 offers user-friendly control options:

  • SAVE LIGHT Control Panel: This basic panel allows users to increase or decrease airflow levels and indicates general alarms and filter change requirements. It features buttons for airflow adjustment and LEDs to show the current airflow level, filter change status, and general alarms. Alarms cannot be acknowledged from this panel, requiring a check of the SAVE TOUCH panel or contacting technical service. Sleep mode, active from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM, turns off all control panel lights and can be cancelled by pressing any button. If multiple SAVE LIGHT panels are used, their addresses must be uniquely configured.

  • SAVE TOUCH Control Panel / SAVE CONNECT: These advanced interfaces provide a comprehensive menu structure with touch-sensitive icons and options. Users can access various settings, including user modes, temperature and airflow settings, week schedules, filter information, system preferences, and help/troubleshooting menus.

    • Home Screen: Displays active user mode, current outdoor temperature, and allows quick access to temperature and airflow settings. It also shows active alarms and warnings.
    • User Modes: The unit supports both permanent and temporary user modes.
      • Permanent Modes:
  • Auto: Automatically adjusts airflow based on Demand Control, Week Schedule, or external fan control functions.

  • Manual: Allows manual selection of Off, Low, Normal, or High airflow speeds.

    • Temporary Modes: Active for a set period, overriding permanent modes.
  • Holiday: Sets fans to Low levels when the user is away for a long period, activating ECO mode. Duration is set in days.

  • Crowded: Sets fans to maximum High levels and adjusts the temperature setpoint offset to -3 K for crowded conditions. Duration is set in hours.

  • Away: Similar to Holiday, sets fans to Low levels for a short period, activating ECO mode. Duration is set in hours.

  • Refresh: Sets both supply and extract fans to Maximum levels for a short period (minutes) to quickly replace indoor air.

  • Fireplace: Sets the supply air fan to High and extract air fan to Low to increase air pressure for better smoke extraction through a chimney. Duration is set in minutes. * Temperature and Airflow Adjustment: Easily adjusted via up/down arrows on the touch screen. Airflow regulation is only available in Manual mode. * Week Schedule: Users can configure specific airflow settings for scheduled and unscheduled periods throughout the week. This feature is password-protected and allows for setting start and end times for different airflow levels on individual days. * Quick Information Screen: Can be enabled to display time, outdoor temperature, current user mode/alarm, fan speed, supply air temperature, relative humidity, and CO2 sensor value (if configured).

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and energy efficiency of the SAVE VSC 200/300. Key maintenance tasks include:

  • General Inspection: Recommended every 6 months.
  • Filter Change: Filters cannot be cleaned and must be replaced 2-3 times per year, depending on air pollution. The control panel displays an alarm when a filter change is due. After replacement, the filter change time must be reset via the control panel. Users can also select different filter kits based on outdoor air quality.
  • Fan Cleaning: Recommended annually. Fans should be cleaned with a cloth or soft brush, avoiding water. White spirit can be used for stubborn deposits.
  • Heat Exchanger Cleaning: Recommended every 3 years or as needed. The heat exchanger block should be removed from the unit and cleaned with hot soapy water or pressure air (not too high pressure). This is a heavy component, so caution is advised during removal and reinstallation.
  • Duct System Maintenance:
    • Cleaning Extract Louvres and Supply Air Diffusers: These should be washed in hot soapy water as required.
    • Checking Outdoor Air Intake: The intake grille should be checked and cleaned at least twice a year to prevent clogging by leaves and pollution.
    • Checking Roof Cowl (if fitted): The roof cowl connected to the exhaust air duct should be checked and cleaned at least twice a year.
    • Cleaning Duct System: Recommended every 5 years by authorized companies. Steel ducts can be cleaned by pulling a brush soaked in hot soapy water through diffuser/louvre openings or inspection hatches.

Safety Warnings:

Before any maintenance or electrical work, the mains supply to the unit must be disconnected. All electrical connections and maintenance work must be carried out by an authorized installer in accordance with local rules. Users should be aware of sharp edges and rotating parts, using protective gloves during maintenance. The heat exchanger is heavy, posing a risk of injury if it falls.
