Technical Specifications

Overview

The t.bone SC 420 USB Desktop Set is a large diaphragm studio microphone designed for converting acoustic signals into electrical signals, specifically for direct operation with a computer via USB. This set is available in black (item no. 439002) and silver (item no. 493567).

Function Description:

The SC 420 USB is a condenser microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern, making it ideal for capturing sound from a specific direction while minimizing off-axis noise. It features a USB port for direct connection to a computer (Windows® or Mac OS®) without the need for additional drivers, simplifying setup and usage. The microphone also includes a headphone output with a 3.5-mm jack plug for latency-free monitoring, allowing users to hear their audio input in real-time. A MUTE button with an LED indicator provides quick control over the microphone's audio input, flashing when muted and lighting up permanently when active.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Connection/Power Supply: USB
  • Transducer Principle: Condenser
  • Polar Pattern: Supercardioid
  • Frequency Range (-10 dB): 80–18,000 Hz
  • Sampling Rate: 16 Bit/48 kHz
  • Current Consumption (mA): 150
  • Dimensions (Ø × D), without shock mount: 51 mm × 187 mm
  • Thread: 5/8-inch
  • Weight: 285 g
  • Temperature Range: 0 °C to 40 °C
  • Relative Humidity: 20% to 80% (non-condensing)

The frequency response chart shows a relatively flat response across the vocal range, with a slight boost in the higher frequencies, which can add clarity and presence to recordings. The polar pattern diagrams illustrate the supercardioid characteristic, indicating maximum sensitivity directly in front of the microphone and significant rejection from the sides and rear.

Usage Features:

The SC 420 USB Desktop Set comes in a PVC case and includes a shock mount, USB cable, foam windshield, popkiller, and a desktop stand, providing a complete solution for immediate use.

To operate the device:

  1. Assembly: Attach the microphone into the shock mount, and then place it on the desktop stand. The shock mount helps to isolate the microphone from vibrations and handling noise.
  2. Connection: Use the included USB cable to connect the microphone's USB port to a USB port on your computer. Once connected, the red LED on the microphone will light up, indicating power. The computer should automatically detect the device and install the necessary drivers.
  3. Configuration (Windows®): For Windows® operating systems, you can configure the device via "System Settings – Sound – Recording" to adjust input levels and other settings.
  4. Configuration (Mac OS®): For Mac OS® operating systems, configuration can be done via "System Settings – Sound Input."
  5. Mute Function: Press the MUTE button to mute the microphone. The red LED in the button will flash to indicate that the microphone is muted. Press the MUTE button again to unmute, and the LED will light up permanently.
  6. Monitoring: Connect headphones with a 3.5-mm jack plug to the headphone output on the microphone for latency-free direct monitoring of your audio.

Safety Instructions and Precautions:
