The Tanita WB-800AS plus is a Class III, NTEP-approved electronic scale designed for accurate weight and BMI measurements. It is intended for professional use and includes features to ensure precision and user safety.
Function Description
The primary function of the WB-800AS plus is to measure weight and calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). It operates as a standard weighing device and also offers a dedicated BMI weighing mode. The scale is equipped with an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life, which activates if the display remains unchanged for 30 seconds. This automatic power-off can be temporarily disabled for continuous use by holding down the "ON/ZERO" key and immediately pressing the "ON" key within 0.5 seconds when the power is off. The device supports changing measurement units between kilograms (kg) and pounds (lb) using the "kg/lb" key. It also provides data output capabilities via RS-232C and USB interfaces, allowing for the export of weight, height, and BMI data to external devices like PCs.
Usage Features
To ensure the highest level of accuracy, several usage conditions and setup procedures are critical. The scale should be used in an environment with a temperature range of 41°F – 95°F (5°C – 35°C) and a relative humidity of 30% - 80% (without condensation). For accurate measurements, it is crucial to place the weighing platform on a level and stable surface, such as firm flooring, not a thick carpet. The device includes a level gauge to assist in proper positioning; the adjustable feet should be rotated until the air bubble in the gauge reaches the center. If the equipment is moved to a new location with a temperature difference of 36°F / 20°C or more, it should be allowed to stand for at least 2 hours before use to avoid inaccurate measurements.
When taking a measurement, the person being weighed should stand still in the middle of the platform. The weight will stabilize and be displayed, accompanied by a beep sound and an "O" sign in the upper left corner of the display. In BMI weighing mode, after setting the height using the arrow keys, the weight and BMI calculation will be displayed. The scale automatically shuts off after the subject steps off the platform.
The display unit can be used in a stand-alone configuration by pulling out the stand at the back of the display box. Alternatively, it can be wall-mounted using the included bracket and screws. For continuous operation, using the AC adapter is recommended over batteries. If using batteries, ensure they are inserted with correct polarity, and new LR6 (AA) alkaline batteries are recommended.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and accuracy of the WB-800AS plus. Tanita recommends periodic checks of each unit. Daily checks should include verifying that the unit is on a stable and level surface. Weekly visual inspections are advised for:
- The display, checking for any damage or contamination.
- All cables, cords, and connector ends, checking for damage or contamination.
- All safety-related labeling, ensuring legibility.
- All accessories (sensors, electrodes, etc.), checking for wear or damage.
Monthly visual inspections should include checking screws on the equipment. Based on these inspections, settings should be updated, items replaced, or service called as necessary. The unit should not be used if any signs of damage are observed, and damaged equipment must be checked by qualified personnel before reuse.
The scale platform should be cleaned with an appropriate disinfectant after each use to maintain hygiene. When moving the equipment, the AC cable should be unplugged. If the scale will not be in use for a long time, the AC adapter should be unplugged from the wall socket.
To prevent malfunctions and ensure safety, the device should not be stored in direct sunlight, areas with significant temperature changes, dampness, excessive dust, near fires, or where it might be subjected to vibrations or shocks. The equipment should be kept away from water and flammable gas. No modifications to the equipment are allowed, as this could lead to electrocution, injury, or inaccurate analysis. Only genuine cables and equipment should be used, and multi-plug adapters are prohibited to prevent fire hazards. When assisting persons with disabilities, another person should help with measurements if needed. Interpretation of analysis results and formulation of exercise programs based on these results should always be performed by a qualified professional.
