Why is there no heat in my Tarm Biomass Solo Plus 30, and the temperature is below 150 ºF?
    • K
      Kathleen HaleAug 7, 2025
If there's no heat and the boiler temperature is low while burning wood, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure there is enough fuel in the boiler and that the fan output is sufficient; restart the fire if needed, clean the fan wheel if it's dirty, and clear any blockages in the air ducts. If the fan isn't working, check the power and control panel components. Make sure the by-pass damper is closed and sealing properly. Clear any obstructions in the combustion chamber through the lower door. Clean ash off the refractory, clear ash from the floor of the boiler, and brush the heat exchange tubes. Use split and seasoned wood with moisture content at 20% or less. If the fan operates slowly, the motor capacitor may need replacement.

What to do if my Tarm Biomass Solo Plus 30 functions well but is inadequate on the coldest days?

If your boiler works well generally but struggles on the coldest days, the boiler water temperature might be set too low. Try increasing the boiler water temperature by adjusting the operating thermostat to 190 ºF (88 ºC).

What causes short burn times in my Tarm Biomass Boiler?
    • J
      John MoralesAug 15, 2025
Short burn times can occur in your Tarm Biomass Boiler due to several reasons. Ensure the wood is seasoned for at least 8 months under cover, and it should be cut, split, and stacked properly. Also, make sure the firebox is adequately filled with wood cut to the full length of the firebox. Using poor quality wood can also cause short burn times; choose dense hardwoods like maple or hickory for the longest burn.

Why is my Tarm Biomass Solo Plus 30 Boiler temperature below 140 ºF and the fan doesn't shut off?
    • J
      Jonathan CraigAug 20, 2025
If your boiler temperature is below 140 ºF (60 ºC) and the fan doesn't shut off, it could be due to a wrong setting on the Lo-Limit Thermostat. Set the Lo-Limit Thermostat at 60 ºC (140 ºF) without storage and 90 ºC (194 ºF) with storage. Also, ensure that the boiler reaches operating temperature on cold start-up by firing it so it heats to above 175 ºF (79 ºC).

What causes excessive smoke out of the load door when loading my Tarm Biomass Solo Plus 30 Boiler?
    • A
      Alexandra SullivanAug 25, 2025
Excessive smoke coming out of the load door during loading can happen if too much wood was left in the firebox from the last stoking; try loading less wood. It may also indicate a weak chimney draft; consider making the chimney higher or warmer.

Why does the wood fire go out before being completely burned in my Tarm Biomass Solo Plus 30?
    • S
      Scott AndersenAug 28, 2025
If the wood fire goes out prematurely, it could be due to inadequate draft; try to increase the chimney draft. Also, if there is no demand on the boiler for an extended period, burn back-up fuels or turn the house thermostat up so the boiler fan will operate more often.

What causes excessive heat dumped into the overheat zone in my Tarm Biomass Boiler?
    • H
      Heather MartinezSep 1, 2025
Excessive heat being dumped into the overheat zone can be caused by the overheat control being set too low. Increase the setting on the L4008B to 210 ºF (98 ºC).
