Overview

This document describes a TCL Roku TV, specifically the 3-Series models 32S331/S335, and serves as a quick start guide for setup, usage, and maintenance.

The primary function of this device is to provide a comprehensive home entertainment experience, combining traditional television viewing with smart TV capabilities powered by Roku. It allows users to watch broadcast TV channels, stream content from various online services, and connect external devices for gaming, Blu-ray playback, and more.

Usage Features:

The TV is designed for ease of use, starting with a straightforward setup process. Users can choose to place the TV on its included stands or mount it on a wall using a VESA-compatible mount. The stands are secured with four screws, and clear instructions are provided to prevent screen damage during installation. For wall mounting, users are advised not to attach the stands and to follow the wall mount's instructions, ensuring the mount can support at least five times the TV's net weight.

Powering up the TV involves inserting two AAA batteries into the remote control, plugging the TV's power cable into a wall outlet, and connecting any desired external devices. The remote control is designed to be intuitive, featuring dedicated buttons for power, back, home, volume control, instant replay, options, rewind scan, and fast forward scan. A special asterisk button provides quick access to picture settings and display options.

The TV's front panel includes a status light that indicates standby mode, busy status, and remote control input. An IR receiver on the front receives signals from the remote. On the back panel, various ports are available for connectivity. These include a power and options button, an optical (digital audio out) port for external audio systems, a headphone out port for headphones or external speakers, and a reset button for restarting or factory resetting the TV. There are three HDMI ports for high-quality audio/video connections, an AV IN adapter for older analog devices, and an antenna/cable in port for outdoor VHF/UHF antennas or cable TV feeds. One of the HDMI ports is an HDMI ARC (audio return channel) port for compatible audio devices like sound bars, and a USB port allows access to photos, music, and movies from USB devices.

A key feature of this TV is its guided setup, which automatically detects wireless networks. Users need to have their network name and password ready to connect. Once connected, the TV prompts users to create or sign into a free Roku account at roku.com/link. This account links the TV to the user's profile and enables access to streaming services. While a credit card is recommended for seamless movie rentals and app downloads, it is not required. The TV automatically updates its software when connected to the internet, ensuring an improved viewing experience over time. If a wireless network connection is not immediately available, the TV can still function as a regular television.

The Roku TV platform offers access to thousands of streaming channels, including popular services like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and VUDU for movies and TV episodes. It also provides channels for various passions such as fitness, cooking, religion, and international programming. Sports enthusiasts can find over 140 sports channels. Many free channels like Crackle, CBS News, and Pluto TV are available, along with free trials for subscription services.

The TV also supports easy voice control through the Roku mobile app (for iOS or Android devices) or compatible third-party voice assistant devices and voice-enabled remote controls. This feature allows users to search for movie titles, launch or change channels, switch inputs, and control playback. Google Assistant integration enables turning the TV on/off, adjusting volume, muting, and switching inputs. Amazon Alexa integration offers similar controls, including powering the screen on/off, adjusting volume, and switching between input devices.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes several important safety and maintenance guidelines. Users are advised to read all instructions, keep them handy, and heed all warnings. The TV should not be used near water and should only be cleaned with a dry cloth. Proper ventilation is crucial; users must not block any ventilation openings and should maintain at least 2 inches of space between the rear cover and the wall, and 1 inch between the apparatus and other surfaces. The TV should not be exposed to external heat sources, direct sunlight, or high levels of humidity.

Regarding power, the power cord should be protected from being walked on or pinched, and any damage to the cord should prompt replacement by a service person. The mains plug acts as a disconnect device and should remain readily operable. For complete power shut-off, the power cord must be disconnected from the outlet.

Battery care is also highlighted: only alkaline batteries of the same type should be used, installed with correct polarity. Mixing old and new batteries, or different types of batteries (alkaline, standard, rechargeable), is discouraged. Batteries should not be disposed of in fire and should be recycled according to local guidelines.

The manual includes troubleshooting tips for common issues such as inability to connect to a wireless network (checking network name, password, router relocation, and reboot), problems connecting cable/satellite boxes or antennas (checking connections, selecting correct input, performing channel scan), and picture size issues (using the asterisk button to adjust picture size). Information on programming universal remotes and enabling/disabling Text-to-Speech (TTS) audio guide is also provided.

TCL offers a limited warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship. For non-commercial use, the warranty is one year for parts and labor, and for commercial use, it's six months. TCL North America, at its discretion, will either repair or replace the television. To obtain service, customers are instructed to call a support number and have their purchase receipt, date of purchase, place of purchase, and model/serial number ready. Pre-authorization is required before sending any product for service. The warranty does not cover customer instruction, installation damage, signal reception problems, misuse, abuse, neglect, cosmetic damage, power line surges, markings from fixed images, modified units, units purchased or serviced outside the USA, "As-Is" or "Refurbished" units, acts of nature, or special/incidental/consequential damages. Product registration online at www.tcl.com is recommended for easier contact but is not required for warranty coverage.
