Overview

This document is a service manual for the TRF-315W refrigerator, manufactured by TCL Home Appliances (HeFei) Co., Ltd. It provides detailed information on the product's structure, operation, refrigeration system, electrical control, and maintenance.

Function Description

The TRF-315W is an air-cooled double-door refrigerator. Its upper section functions as the refrigerating chamber, while the lower section is the freezer chamber. The refrigerator is designed to store food items, keeping them fresh in the refrigerating chamber and frozen in the freezer chamber. It utilizes an air-cooled system to maintain consistent temperatures throughout its compartments.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual distinguishes between two models: TRF-315WEXA+ (external display) and TRF-315WEA+ (internal display). While both are air-cooled double-door refrigerators, they differ in their display type and specific component part numbers.

Key components and their quantities:

Refrigeration System: The refrigeration system comprises a compressor, condenser, dry filter, capillary tube, finned-type evaporator, dew-proof tube, and evaporation coil. The compressor circulates the refrigerant, which is cooled in the condenser, filtered by the dry filter, and then expands through the capillary tube into the finned-type evaporator and evaporation coil to absorb heat from the refrigerator compartments. The dew-proof tube helps prevent condensation.

Electrical Control System: The electrical control system includes:

  • Compressor: The primary refrigeration device.
  • Refrigerating light: Provides illumination inside the refrigerating chamber.
  • Freezing fan: Facilitates cooling capacity transmission and air circulation.
  • Steel tube heater: Used for defrosting the surface of the freezing evaporator.
  • Refrigerating switch: Controls the lighting in the refrigerating chamber.
  • Temperature sensor: Senses and monitors the temperature within the refrigerator.
  • Temperature fuse: A safety component that cuts off power to the steel tube heater if the defrosting temperature becomes abnormal.
  • Master control board: The central unit managing all electrical components.
  • Overloading protector: Protects the compressor from electrical overload.
  • PTC relay: Assists in starting the compressor.
  • Capacitor: Used with the compressor for starting and running.

Usage Features

Initial Power-on: Upon first power-on, the refrigerator will automatically start running in Gear 5 for both TRF-315WEA+ (internal display) and TRF-315WEXA+ (external display) models.

Gear Adjustment (TRF-315WEA+ internal display): Temperature adjustment is done by repeatedly pressing the "+" or "-" keys. The refrigerator cycles through "02" → "04" → "05" → "06" → "08" → "02". The selected gear is confirmed after 5 seconds of no key operation.

Gear Adjustment (TRF-315WEXA+ external display): When the child lock is not active, pressing the "Temperature control switch" key cycles the refrigerating chamber temperature through "02" → "04" → "05" → "06" → "08" → "Power cool" → "Smart" → "Energy saving" → "02". The selected gear is confirmed after 5 seconds of no key operation.

Special Modes (TRF-315WEXA+ external display):

  • Power cool mode: Sets the refrigerator to run in Gear 2.
  • Smart mode: Sets the refrigerator to run in Gear 4.
  • Energy saving mode: Sets the refrigerator to run in Gear 6.

Power Off Memory: Both models retain their last operating state before a power outage. Upon power restoration, the refrigerator resumes operation according to the previously set parameters.

Child Lock Function (TRF-315WEXA+ external display): If there's no key operation for 30 seconds, the child lock activates, and the display screen enters screen saver mode (goes out). The first keystroke wakes up the display. To unlock, press and hold the "Temperature control switch" key for 3 seconds.

Door Alarm: If the refrigerating chamber door remains open for more than 1 minute, an alarm will sound. Pressing any key temporarily stops the alarm, but it will resume after 1 minute if the door is still open. Closing the door tightly stops the alarm.

Compressor Control: The compressor turns on when refrigeration is needed and off otherwise. There's a minimum 8-minute downtime requirement before the compressor can restart.

Light Control: The refrigerating light turns on when the door is opened and off when closed. It will also turn off automatically if it remains on continuously for more than 5 minutes.

Fan Control: The freezer fan operates whenever the compressor is on during normal refrigeration. It turns off when the compressor stops, during freezing and defrosting processes, and if the refrigerating door is detected as open.

Defrosting Heater Control: The steel tube heating wire activates during defrosting and remains off in all other states.

Failure Running Program:

  • Freezer chamber temperature sensor failure: The refrigerator will cycle between 25 minutes of refrigeration and 25 minutes of no refrigeration.
  • Ambient temperature sensor failure: The temperature will be controlled at 25°C.
  • Communication failure: The refrigerator will continue to run in the gear set before the failure occurred.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides a maintenance guide focusing on user-related issues and their solutions.

Installation Environment:

  • No clearance around: Ensure more than 10 cm clearance at the back and more than 30 cm at the top for proper ventilation.
  • Unstable installation: Install on a flat surface and adjust the adjustable feet for stability.
  • Inappropriate installation site: Change the installation site or ensure adequate surrounding ventilation.

Usage:

  • Too much food stored / Too much water in stored food / Cold air source blocked: These issues affect cold air circulation. Users should be advised to refer to the Operation Instructions for proper food storage.
  • Refrigerator door opened many times: Advise users to open the door as little as possible to maintain internal temperature.
  • Inappropriate temperature regulator setting: Guide users to set the temperature regulator to an appropriate position.

Troubleshooting (Compressor does not work):

  • Check refrigerating chamber light: If off, check power plug and voltage.
  • Power plug not plugged in / Voltage not normal: Plug in the power plug and stabilize the voltage.
  • Compressor not working:
    • Check master control board: If abnormal, replace it.
    • Test overloading protector with a multimeter: If abnormal, replace it.
    • Test PTC resistance: If abnormal, replace the PTC.
    • If all above are normal, judge if the compressor is normal: If abnormal, replace the compressor.

Troubleshooting (Excessive noise):

  • Ground not flat: Level the ground.
  • Resonance with objects: Avoid collision with objects.
  • Pipelines in compressor compartment collide: Adjust the pipelines to prevent collision.

Troubleshooting (Compressor does not stop for a long time):

  • Ambient temperature too high: Move the refrigerator to a cooler environment.
  • Refrigerator door not closed tightly: Close the door tightly.
  • Gear not appropriate: Adjust the gear setting properly.

The manual includes detailed diagrams for the exploded view of the product structure, refrigeration system, compressor wiring, and electrical control, along with visual guides for the removal and installation of the top light assembly and air duct assemblies in both refrigerating and freezing compartments. These visual aids are crucial for technicians performing maintenance and repairs.
