Reproduction
modes
All
the
reproduction
modes
mentioned
below
can
be
effective
only
when
digital
signals
are
input
as
a
sound
source.
Dolby
Digital
(AC-3)
mode
“Dolby
Digital”
is
the
official
term
for
the
“AC-3”
mode,
and
it
is
a
system
developed
by
Dolby
Laboratories
to
transmit
the
“5-plus-1-
channel”
digital
signals
altogether.
Whereas
Dolby
Pro
Logic
is
an
analog
matrix
system,
Dolby
Digital
(AC-3)
employs
a
“digital
discrete
system”
in
which
each
channel
is
treated
as
a
separate
entity.
It
is
used
for
the
DVDs
which
are
a
new-generation
AV
media,
and
it
represents
the
new
format
which
supports
not
only
laser
discs
but
also
the
advances
which
will
be
made
in
AV
components
of
the
future.
This
mode
is
used
to
enjoy
digital
sources,
such
as
music
sources
or
movie
software
(DVD
having
the
following
mark).

Dolby

that

3
STEREO
mode
You
can
enjoy
audio/video
sources
with
clear
sound,
more
presence
and
a
good
feeling
of
orientation.
3
STEREO
can
be
used
with
stereo
sources
not
encoded
with
DOLBY
SURROUND.
Stereo
mode
This
mode
is
used
to
replay
program
sources
which
were
recorded
in
a
format
other
than
Dolby
Surround.
If
the
input
signals
are
in
the
Dolby
Digital
(AC-3)
format,
they
are
down-mixed
(see
below)
into
2
channels.
Down-mixing
function
This
function
mixes
the
5-plus-1-channel
input
signals
into
the
2-
channel
format
and
outputs
the
result.
It
achieves
an
effect
very
similar
to
reproduction
in
the
AC-3
mode.
