Overview

The Technogym Selection Vertical Traction machine is a strength training equipment designed for upper body exercises, specifically targeting the back muscles. It is part of "THE STRENGTH EVOLUTION" series by Technogym, a company based in Gambettola (FC), Italy.

Function Description

The Vertical Traction machine allows users to perform exercises that involve pulling a weight stack downwards, engaging muscles such as the latissimus dorsi, biceps, and rear deltoids. The user sits on an adjustable seat and operates levers with handgrips to move the weights. An easy-start push bar is an optional feature that helps users grasp the levers more easily at the beginning of an exercise by moving them closer. A pin is used to select the desired load from the weight stack, with a cursor allowing for fine adjustments of 2.5 kg. For workloads equal to or higher than body weight, a belt secures the user to the seat.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 1454 mm (58")
    • Width: 1670 mm (66")
    • Height: 1860 mm (74")
    • Base dimensions: 1313 mm (52") x 1500 mm (59")
  • Weight:
    • Standard weight stack: 292 kg (649 lb)
    • Plus weight stack: 322 kg (716 lb)
    • Standard weight stack (additional): 100 kg (200 lb)
    • Plus weight stack (additional): 130 kg (260 lb)
  • Cable Length:
    • Standard weight stack cable: 616 cm
    • Plus weight stack cable: 594 cm
  • Operating Environment:
    • Temperature: +10°C to +25°C
    • Humidity: 20% to 90%
    • Requires sufficient ventilation, good lighting, and adequate clearance on all sides for safe movement.
    • Must be installed on a flat, stable, and vibration-free floor surface with adequate carrying capacity.

Usage Features

  • Adjustable Seat: The seat height can be adjusted by lifting a lever located under the front of the seat. Users can remain seated to lower the seat or un-weight it to raise it.
  • Weight Selection: Load is selected using a pin in the weight stack. A cursor allows for 2.5 kg increments in workload.
  • Handgrips: The machine features two fixed handgrips with finger indentations and two rotating handgrips, allowing for varied grip positions to adjust movement trajectory and comfort.
  • Easy-Start Push Bar (Optional): This feature helps users reach the levers at the start of the exercise. The user pushes the foot bar with their right foot, grasps the handgrips, then releases the foot bar and places their feet firmly on the floor for stability.
  • Exercise Technique: Users should ensure shoulders, elbows, and wrists remain aligned during the movement. Plates should not touch during the set, and a smooth, controlled speed should be maintained. The easy-start foot bar can be used to support the weight after the last repetition and return it slowly to the starting position.
  • Safety Belt: For workloads at or above body weight, a security belt is available to secure the user to the seat.
  • Safety Labels: The equipment includes labels indicating "DANGER OF SQUASHING" in specific areas, which users should pay particular attention to. The weight stack is enclosed in protective panels.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Inspection: The equipment's safety is guaranteed only if it is inspected every two weeks for signs of damage or wear. Defective or worn components must be replaced immediately, or the equipment removed from service.
  • Cleaning: The machine should be kept clean and dust-free. Padded parts can be cleaned with a moist cloth or sponge and mild soap. Outer parts should be cleaned weekly with a damp sponge. Care should be taken not to rub drawings and instructions on labels with excessive force.
  • Lubrication: Weight stack guides should be lubricated by removing dust and oil residues with a soft cloth, then applying a thin layer of lubricant (from the optional Basic Box kit) with a slightly moistened cloth.
  • Cable Replacement: Cables must be replaced at the first sign of wear, even if only the outer rubber protection is affected. Monthly inspection of cable condition is recommended. Only Technogym-supplied cables should be used. Replacement involves unscrewing cams, inserting a new cable, and retightening.
  • Cable Tension Adjustment: Slack in the weight stack cable can be adjusted by removing the front protective panel, backing off a nut, and simultaneously turning both pulley housings to tighten or loosen the cable. The two housings must be turned by the same amount to keep the tabs aligned.
  • Padded Components Replacement: Worn padded components (handgrips, seats, backrests) should be replaced for hygiene and safety. Handgrips are unscrewed, while seats and backrests require loosening screws on the opposite side of the padding.
  • Disassembly for Transport/Storage: The seat and easy-start device can be disassembled to facilitate passage through narrow doorways or for storage.
    • Seat Disassembly: Involves lowering the seat, backing off screws, and removing the seat. Reassembly is the reverse process.
    • Easy-Start Device Disassembly: Involves removing plugs and screws, lifting the crosspiece, and then removing the device. Reassembly is the reverse process.
  • Storage: For prolonged periods of non-use, the equipment should be stored in a clean, dry place, covered with a cloth, at a temperature between +10°C and +25°C, and a humidity between 20% and 90%. Original packing materials are recommended for better storage.
  • Technical Support: For maintenance actions not described in the manual, users should contact Technogym Technical Support Service, providing the equipment model, date of purchase, serial number, and a precise description of the problem. Unauthorized operations will invalidate the warranty.
  • Disposal: The equipment is made from recyclable materials (steel, aluminium, plastic) and must be disposed of according to urban refuse collection regulations by specialist environmental firms. It should not be left where children might use it as a toy, nor disposed of in the environment.

Accessories

  • Standard Outfit: User manual and warranty certificate.
  • Optional Accessories:
    • Wheels (A0000015) for moving the equipment.
    • Basic Box service kit (A0000010) for maintenance.
    • Number holder (H0000369) to be assembled between the top and weight stack guides. Note: The number holder is divided into two pieces, a larger front section and a crescent closure for the back, secured with M5x6 Z screws and M5 cap nuts.
    • There may be one or two castor wheels depending on the equipment type. Fixed wheels must always be placed underneath the weight stack for movement and removed before using the equipment.

Installation

  • The equipment is supplied fully assembled in a carton, protected by cellophane, and secured to a pallet.
  • Unpacking: Involves cutting the carton, removing cellophane, untying straps, and lifting the equipment from the weight stack side. Packaging materials should be kept for re-use and kept away from children.
  • Lifting and Handling: Wheels are used for movement. The equipment should be moved with care to avoid tipping. It should be lifted from the weight stack side using a pallet truck or fork-lift truck, with padded material and wedges for safety. Fixed wheels are inserted into holes under the equipment feet. Castor wheels are inserted on the seat side. The equipment should only be pushed from the weight stack side when moving.

The Technogym Selection Vertical Traction machine is designed for safe, comfortable, and effective use, with clear instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance to ensure longevity and user safety.
