Eight-Input Expansion Module Installation Sheet
Description
Eight-Input Expansion Modules add eight inputs to TS0820,
TS0824, TS0866 and TS1020 DGPs.
This Installation Sheet applies to models TS0021 and TS1021
expansion modules:
• TS0021 expansion modules (green PCB) may be used
with Challenger10-series TS1020 Analogue DGPs, and
with Challenger V8-series TS0820, TS0824, and
TS0866 Data Gathering Panels (DGPs).
• TS1021 expansion modules (blue PCB) may be used with
Challenger10-series TS1020 Analogue DGPs.

Expansion modules have a pair of ten-way connectors, and
one cable. One module can be plugged into a DGP’s J7
connector, and two additional modules can be daisy-chained to
the first, subject to the following:
• TS0820, TS0824, and TS1020 DGPs have eight onboard
inputs. Up to three expansion modules can be daisy-
chained to increase the quantity of inputs to 32.
• TS0866 Intelligent 4-Door Controllers have eight onboard
inputs. One TS0021 module can be used to increase the
quantity of inputs to 16.
The added inputs are numbered according to “Input
numbering” on page 2.

Inspect the package and contents for visible damage. If any
components are damaged or missing, do not use the unit;
contact the supplier immediately. If you need to return the unit,
you must ship it in the original box.
Installation
Expansion modules are mounted on standoffs (supplied) using
M3 x 10 mm pan head screws (supplied) inside the DGP
enclosure. The PCB is size B.
NOTICE! A qualified service person, complying with all
applicable codes, should perform all required hardware
installation.
To install the module:
1. Disconnect the plug pack and battery from the DGP.
2. Insert four standoffs (supplied) into the DGP enclosure at
a location suitable for the ten-way cable to connect the
expansion module to the DGP, or other expansion
module, as needed.
3. Slide the board’s terminal connectors together and mount
on the board.
4. Use four M3 x 10 pan head screws to fix the module to the
standoffs.
5. Connect the ten-way cable to the J2 connector on the
expansion module.
6. Connect the ten-way cable to the J7 connector on the
DGP, or other expansion module, as needed.
7. Connect the required input cables to the input terminals.

8. Configure the expansion module’s three-segment DIP
switch, and (if applicable) the DGP’s DIP switch (see
“Configuration settings” on page 2).
9. Reapply power to the DGP.

The Eight-Input Expansion Module is designed to extend the input capabilities of TS0820, TS0824, TS0866, and TS1020 Data Gathering Panels (DGPs). These modules come in two variants: the TS0021 (green PCB) for Challenger10-series TS1020 Analogue DGPs and Challenger V8-series TS0820, TS0824, and TS0866 DGPs, and the TS1021 (blue PCB) for Challenger10-series TS1020 Analogue DGPs.

Function Description:

The primary function of the expansion module is to add eight alarm inputs to a compatible DGP. This allows for a greater number of sensors or detection devices to be integrated into the security system. The modules connect to the DGP via a ten-way cable, and multiple modules can be daisy-chained to further expand input capacity.

Important Technical Specifications:

• Input Capacity: Each module provides eight additional alarm inputs.
• Resistor Compatibility: By default, the Challenger system uses two 10 kΩ end-of-line (EOL) resistors per input circuit for four-state monitoring (sealed, unsealed, open circuit, short circuit). TS1020 DGP onboard inputs and inputs connected via TS1021 modules can be configured for different EOL resistor values, but TS0021 modules do not support 1 kΩ, 1.5 kΩ, or 2 kΩ EOL values.
• PCB Size: The module's PCB is size B.
• Power: The module is powered via the DGP connection.
• Input Numbering: Input numbers are assigned sequentially based on the module's position in the daisy chain and the DGP's address. For example, on a Challenger panel, inputs 1-16 are onboard. For LAN 1, DGP 1, inputs 17-48 (V10) or 17-32 (V8) are assigned. Subsequent DGPs and expansion modules continue this numbering scheme.
• Maximum Expansion:
  • TS0820, TS0824, and TS1020 DGPs (with eight onboard inputs) can support up to three expansion modules, increasing total inputs to 32.
  • TS0866 Intelligent 4-Door Controllers (with eight onboard inputs) can support one TS0021 module, increasing total inputs to 16.
• DIP Switch Configuration: A three-segment DIP switch on the module (SW1, SW2, SW3) is used to configure its position (First, Second, or Third) in the daisy chain relative to the DGP. If more than one expansion module is connected, segment 5 of the DGP's eight-segment DIP switch must be set to ON.

Usage Features:

• Installation: Modules are mounted on standoffs within the DGP enclosure using M3 x 10 mm pan head screws.
• Connectivity: A ten-way cable connects the expansion module's J2 connector to the DGP's J7 connector or to the J3 connector of a previous expansion module in a daisy chain. The J3 connector on the expansion module is used to connect to the next expansion module.
• Input Wiring: Input cables are connected to the module's input terminals. EOL resistors must be installed at the end of the input circuit, preferably at the alarm device's connections. If an input is not used, an EOL resistor is not required if the input number is programmed as type 10 (spare).
• Two-State Monitoring: To enable two-state monitoring for all inputs, "Input Tamper Monitoring" must be set to No in the system options (Install menu option 7).
• Configuration: The module's DIP switch must be configured to indicate its position in the expansion chain. If applicable, the DGP's DIP switch may also need adjustment.
• Product Contents: Each module package includes the expansion module, an installation sheet, one ring terminal, four three-way plug-on screw terminal connectors, five M3 x 10 mm pan head screws, four PCB standoffs, and eighteen 10 kΩ 1/4 W resistors.

Maintenance Features:

• Pre-Installation Check: Users are advised to inspect the package and contents for visible damage or missing components before use. Damaged or incomplete units should not be used and the supplier should be contacted immediately.
• Professional Installation: All hardware installation must be performed by a qualified service person in compliance with applicable codes.
• Power Management: Before installation, the plug pack and battery must be disconnected from the DGP. Power is reapplied only after installation and configuration are complete.
• Resistor Handling: Sleeves on resistor leads are recommended to prevent accidental shorting.
• Regulatory Compliance: The product is classified as Class A. In a domestic environment, it may cause radio interference, requiring the user to take adequate measures.
• Manufacturer Information: The manufacturer is UTC Fire & Security Australia Pty Ltd t/a Interlogix. The first two digits of the product serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
