Do you have a question about the TEFAL INTENSE AQUA CONTROL HU5120 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Rowenta/Tefal HU5120 / HD5120 and HU5115 / HD5115 humidifiers. These devices offer both manual and automatic operation modes, along with several complementary functions designed to enhance air quality and comfort.

Function Description

The humidifier's primary function is to regulate the humidity level in a room. It achieves this by emitting mist, with adjustable output rates. The HU5120 / HD5120 models also include a "heating function" that increases humidity production by 20% and can destroy bacteria in the water. The device features a control panel with an LCD display to show current settings and ambient conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

While specific technical specifications like power consumption or dimensions are not explicitly detailed, the manual highlights key operational aspects. The water tank capacity is a notable feature, with a maximum capacity of 5.5 liters. The device is designed to operate with cold water, and the use of soft water is recommended to prevent white dust. An anti-limescale cartridge is included to help with this, and its replacement is advised when unpleasant odors or white dust appear. The humidifier offers three mist output speeds and a timer function for automatic shutdown, ranging from 1 to 9 hours.

Usage Features

The humidifier offers two main operating modes: Manual and Automatic.

Manual Function:

  • Humidity Level Setting: Users can set a target humidity level between 40% and 75% Relative Humidity (RH) by pressing button C. A "Co" setting allows for continuous operation, with a safety shutdown if room humidity exceeds 90% RH. The display shows either the ambient humidity ("HOME" icon) or the target humidity ("SELECT" icon).
  • Mist Output Speed: Button F allows selection of three different mist output speeds.

Automatic Function (Smart Modes):

The device includes three pre-set "Smart" modes, selected via button E, which automatically adjust humidity and mist output. These modes disable the manual humidity and mist speed settings.

  • AUTO Mode: Automatically targets 55% RH, adjusting mist output based on room humidity.
  • BABY Mode: Automatically targets 50% RH. The device operates for 7 hours before automatically shutting down. Lights and beeps are disabled in this mode.
  • NIGHT Mode: Automatically targets 50% RH and gradually reduces mist output. The device operates for 8 hours before automatically shutting down. Lights and beeps are also disabled in this mode.

Additional Functions:

  • Timer: Button B allows programming the automatic shutdown of the device from 1 to 9 hours. This function is not available in "Smart" modes.
  • Heating Function (HU5120 / HD5120 only): Button D activates or deactivates this function, which increases humidity production by 20% and helps destroy bacteria in the water.
  • Light/Sound: Button G controls the LCD backlight, audible beeps, and illuminates the water tank.

Maintenance Features

Regular and thorough maintenance is crucial for the device's longevity and performance. The manual recommends cleaning the appliance every two days.

  • Before Maintenance: Always switch off and unplug the appliance.
  • General Cleaning: Regularly clean the water tank, the nebulization chamber (around the ceramic disk), and the air vents. Do not use detergents, abrasive agents, or immerse the base, power cord, or plug in water.
  • Water Tank Cleaning: Remove the anti-limescale cartridge and rinse it with clean water. Clean the tank and its cap with soapy water, rinse, and dry. For internal cleaning, fill with a small amount of water, shake vigorously, then empty and dry.
  • Nebulization Chamber Cleaning: Remove the tank. Fill the chamber with equal parts water and white vinegar (4% acetic acid) and let it sit for at least 4 hours. Empty, remove limescale with a soft, damp cloth, and rinse with clear water, ensuring no water enters the outlet opening (11).
  • Anti-Limescale Cartridge: Replace the cartridge when unpleasant odors or white dust appear.

Storage

When not in use, store the appliance in a dry environment. Before storing, ensure the water tank is emptied, and the unit is cleaned and dried.

Troubleshooting

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Unit not turning on: Check for flashing low water indicator, unit positioning (leaning), tank positioning, power connection, and if the nebulization chamber has reached the required water level.
  • Low humidifying capacity: Check if doors/windows are closed, mist output rate is too low, and if air vents/nozzle are clear.
  • High room humidity: Verify the target humidity level setting.
  • Condensation in the room: Check if the room temperature is too low.
  • Noisy unit: Ensure the appliance is on a stable, flat surface.
  • Appliance stops: Check if the programmed operating period has elapsed, if the low water indicator is flashing, and the target humidity level setting.
