Overview

This document serves as a comprehensive manual for Teka kitchen extractor hoods, specifically models DH-60, DH-70, DH-90, and DH-110. It provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the appliance. The manual emphasizes safety precautions and proper usage to prevent malfunctions and potential hazards.

Function Description

The Teka kitchen extractor hood is designed for domestic use to extract and purify fumes and odors generated during food preparation. It operates by drawing air from the cooking area, passing it through a filtration system, and then either expelling it outside (external extraction) or recirculating it back into the kitchen after purification (recirculation mode with active charcoal filters). The hood features multiple speed settings to adapt to varying cooking intensities, along with integrated lighting to illuminate the hob.

Usage Features

The extractor hood is controlled via a user-friendly interface, typically consisting of push buttons. These controls allow the user to:

  • Turn the appliance On/Off: A dedicated push button initiates or terminates the hood's operation.
  • Select fan speed: Multiple speed settings (Minimum, Medium, Maximum) are available to adjust the extraction power according to the amount of smoke and odors produced. An "Extra fan" setting provides a boost for particularly intense cooking.
  • Control lighting: Integrated lamps illuminate the cooking surface, enhancing visibility.
  • Pilot indicator: A pilot light indicates when the extractor fan is in operation.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to switch on the extractor fan a few minutes before starting to cook. This establishes a steady airflow, effectively capturing fumes as soon as they appear. After cooking, the fan should be allowed to run for an additional 3 to 5 minutes to ensure all grease and odors are expelled from the outlet duct, preventing their return.

The hood can be configured for two types of air extraction:

  • External Extraction: In this mode, fumes are drawn through the hood, filtered, and then vented outside the building via an external duct. For efficient external extraction, the duct should ideally be no more than four meters long, have a maximum of two 90-degree angles, and maintain a minimum diameter of Ø120 mm.
  • Recirculation Mode (with Active Charcoal Filters): When external venting is not feasible, the hood can purify the air by recirculating it through active charcoal filters. These filters absorb odors and impurities before the air is released back into the kitchen.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the extractor hood. The manual outlines specific procedures for different components:

  • Cleaning the Hood Body:

    • For stainless steel surfaces, proprietary cleaners recommended for such materials should be used.
    • Abrasive or corrosive products, as well as metallic scourers, must be avoided to prevent damage.
    • The hood should be dried with a lint-free cloth.
    • The use of vapor cleaners is not recommended.
    • The interior of the hood should be cleaned at least once a month to prevent excessive fat accumulation, which poses a fire risk and can cause dripping.
  • Cleaning the Metal Filters:

    • Metal filters are designed to trap grease and can be easily removed by pressing lightly on their locks and pulling them off.
    • They can be cleaned by soaking them in hot water with a neutral detergent until the fat dissolves, followed by rinsing under a tap or using special anti-grease products.
    • Alternatively, the filters are dishwasher-safe. When washing in a dishwasher, it is advisable to stack them vertically to prevent food residues from sticking. While dishwasher cleaning may cause some blackening of the metallic surface, this does not affect their fat retention capacity.
    • After cleaning, the filters should be thoroughly dried before being reinstalled.
  • Changing Light Bulbs:

    • To change a blown or burnt-out lamp, the metal filters must first be removed.
    • The EASYCLEAN panels (K) need to be carefully moved aside by loosening their screws (without fully unscrewing them).
    • The cover top (A) is then dismounted by loosening its screws (B).
    • The old lamp (E) can then be replaced with a new one (maximum 40 W, E-14 type).
    • Finally, the support (A) and EASYCLEAN panel (K) are re-mounted, and the metal filters are refitted.
  • Active Charcoal Filters (Optional):

    • These filters have a limited active life of three to six months, depending on usage.
    • They cannot be washed or regenerated and must be replaced once their useful life expires.
    • To replace them, the metal filters and EASYCLEAN panels are removed. The old filters are then detached from the motor carcass, and new filters are fitted by aligning their holes with the motor's pivots and turning them as indicated in the diagram.
    • The EASYCLEAN panel and metal filters are then reinstalled. If the diffuser (C) was removed, it should be refitted onto the motor's air outlet vent before replacing the tubecovers (E).

The manual also includes a troubleshooting section to help users identify and resolve common issues, such as the extractor fan not working, insufficient extraction, or lamps not lighting up. For more complex problems or repairs, users are advised to contact the nearest TEKA Technical Assistance Service and insist on genuine spare parts to ensure safety and proper functioning. Unauthorized repairs or modifications can lead to malfunctions and compromise safety.

The appliance is marked according to European directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE), indicating its compliance with European-wide return and recycling guidelines for waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Safety is paramount, and the manual stresses several key points:

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations for electrical and gas fittings.
  • Verify that the appliance's voltage and frequency match the network supply.
  • If the net cable lacks a connection plug, the appliance must be connected via a break switch with a universal cut-off and a minimum contact separation of 3 mm.
  • The net cable must only be substituted by an authorized technical service.
  • After installation, ensure the mains cable is not in contact with live metal edges.
  • Avoid connecting the hood to conductors used for fumes from non-electric energy sources (e.g., boilers, chimneys).
  • If the extractor fan is used simultaneously with non-electric appliances (e.g., gas cookers), ensure adequate room ventilation.
  • Never leave gas hobs lit if not covered by a container, as accumulated fat in filters can catch fire.
  • Avoid cooking under the hood without metal filters.
  • Do not produce flames under the kitchen hood.
  • Disconnect the appliance before any interior manipulation, cleaning, or maintenance.
  • Use gloves and exercise extreme caution when cleaning the hood's interior.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  • When the cooker hood runs simultaneously with other non-electrical appliances, the air extraction (underpressure) must not exceed 4Pa (4 x 10-5 bar).
