The Teledyne LeCroy PP023 is a passive high-impedance voltage oscilloscope probe designed for general-purpose oscilloscopes. It is compatible with instruments having an input impedance of 1 MΩ and can be compensated for input capacitances between 10 and 20 pF. This probe is designed to work with oscilloscopes that automatically detect probe attenuation and adjust their readout accordingly.
Function Description:
The PP023 probe is used to measure voltage signals in electronic circuits, providing a high impedance interface to minimize loading effects on the circuit under test. Its passive design means it does not require external power, simplifying its use in various measurement scenarios. The probe's primary function is to accurately transmit the measured signal to the oscilloscope while maintaining signal integrity and providing a 10:1 attenuation ratio.

- Environmental Compliance: EU RoHS2 Directive (2011/65/EU) and WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU).
Usage Features:
- Probe Compensation: Proper compensation is crucial for accurate amplitude measurements. The PP023 features both low-frequency (LF) and high-frequency (HF) compensation adjustments.
- Low Frequency Compensation: Adjusted using a single LF trimmer on the BNC Compensation Box. This is done by applying a 1 kHz square wave and adjusting until a flat-topped square wave is achieved on the oscilloscope.
- High Frequency Compensation: Adjusted using two HF trimmers (HF1 and HF2) on the BNC Compensation Box. This is done by applying a 1 MHz square wave (< 0.7 ns rise-time) and adjusting HF2 then HF1 until a flat-topped square wave is achieved. Plastic caps must be removed to access the HF trimmers.
- Probe Tips: The probe comes with both a rigid probe tip and a spring tip, which can be screwed onto the probe body by hand. Care should be taken not to overtighten to avoid damaging threads.
- Ground Accessories:
- A ground lead with an alligator clip and a short collar are attached at shipping.
- The short collar can be unscrewed to replace the ground lead with a swivel lead adapter, then re-screwed to secure it.
- A long collar can be pushed onto the probe body for use with a ground spring, BNC adapter, or PCB adapter.
- Safety Features:
- Double Insulation: Provides enhanced electrical safety.
- Protective (Earth) Terminal: Ensures proper grounding.
- Finger Guard: Users are instructed to keep fingers behind the probe's finger guard during use to avoid electric shock.
- Indoor Use Only: Rated for indoor use and should not be operated where conductive pollutants may be present.
- Voltage Derating Curve: Users must always comply with the provided Voltage vs. Frequency Derating Curve to prevent exceeding voltage or category ratings.
- Connection Procedure: Always connect the probe to the oscilloscope before connecting to the test circuit, and disconnect from the test circuit before disconnecting from the oscilloscope. Do not connect/disconnect while connected to a voltage source.
- Overload Protection: Do not apply potentials exceeding the maximum ratings.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Only the exterior of the probe, cables, and accessories should be cleaned using a soft cotton cloth moistened with a mild detergent and water solution. The probe should never be submerged. It must be thoroughly dried before use. Solvents or solvent fumes should be avoided as they can cause deterioration.
- Inspection: Before each use, the probe and accessories should be inspected for any potential damage (e.g., tears, defects in the probe body, cable jacket). If damage is suspected, operation should cease immediately, and the probe should be sequestered.
- Service: All repairs must be referred to qualified service personnel. Teledyne LeCroy provides service through its customer service department.
- Warranty: The probe is warranted for one year from the date of shipment for normal use and operation within specification. Spare parts, replacement parts, and repairs are warranted for 90 days. The warranty covers defects due to workmanship or materials but excludes misuse, neglect, accident, abnormal operating conditions, or damage from unauthorized repair/modifications. The customer is responsible for transportation and insurance charges for returning products for service.
Replaceable Parts:
A comprehensive list of replaceable parts is provided, including various probe tips, ground leads, collars, adapters, insulators, and color coding rings. The standard accessory replacement kit part number is PKIT5-2.5MM-101.
