Thank you for purchasing the Tele Vue 6mm ETHOS, which fits both 2" and 1¼" focusers
or diagonals. Typically, in 2" mode, you will focus “out” about ¾" further than a 26mm
Nagler Type 5, and in 1¼" mode, if you use Tele Vue’s "high-hat" 2"-1¼" adapter, it will
be parfocal with Tele Vue’s Plössls, Radians, Type 6 Naglers, Nagler Zooms, 1¼"
Panoptics and 8mm ETHOS.
Since it is designed as an 1¼" eyepiece, there is NO optical benefit by using a 2" holder.
The 2" barrel is included just for convenience, but it is also threaded to accept our 2"
extension tube (EBX-2120), which allows the use of 48mm filters.
For 1¼" holders:
1) Back off the lock screw in the 2" barrel section of the eyepiece so it can be fully
inserted into the holder.
2) If the holder has a lock screw, rotate the eyepiece so that the screw slips into the slot
in the 2" section of the eyepiece barrel. Your holder lock screw clamps to the 1¼" barrel
of the eyepiece, while the eyepiece lock screw clamps to the outside of your holder for
maximum safety.
3) If your holder doesn’t have a lock screw, be sure to clamp the eyepiece lock screw
onto the outside of the holder. Please note that this eyepiece is heavy, and can fall out of
holders with a “slip fit” unless the lock screw is used!
For 2" holders:
1) Remove the eyepiece lock screw (Don’t lose it!)
2) Use the lock screw on your 2" holder, being careful not to let it slip into the slot in the 2"
barrel of the eyepiece.
3) The eyepiece will not “bottom” on Tele Vue 2" diagonals. Be careful if using diagonals
by other manufacturers.
For Newtonians/Dobsonians:
We recommend our Paracorr coma corrector to eliminate the mirror coma in f/5.5 or
faster scopes. This permits the same kind of full field sharpness routinely seen in Tele
Vue’s NP-Series refractors. See your Paracorr instruction sheet for proper setting.
Note: when using a 1¼" filter in the 6mm ETHOS, be careful not to accidentally set the
Paracorr’s tunable top to its lowest setting, as the bottom of the filter might contact the
Paracorr’s upper lens. It’s best to thread a 2" filter onto the front of the Paracorr, or add
our 2" extension tube (EBX-2120) to the 2" barrel of the 6mm ETHOS.
For higher magnifications with a 100º field, use Tele Vue Barlows and Powermates.
When using the 6mm ETHOS in 2" Powermates, use its 2" barrel.
Warning: Do not unscrew any sections of the eyepiece, as the lenses may fall
out, thereby voiding the warranty.

Usage Features:

Compatibility: The 6mm ETHOS is designed to fit both 2" and 1¼" focusers or diagonals. Although it includes a 2" barrel, it is primarily designed as a 1¼" eyepiece, meaning there is no optical benefit from using a 2" holder. The 2" barrel is mainly for convenience and is threaded to accept Tele Vue's 2" extension tube (EBX-2120) for 48mm filters.

Focusing:

• In 2" mode, the eyepiece typically requires focusing "out" about ¼" further than a 26mm Nagler Type 5.
• In 1¼" mode, when used with Tele Vue's "high-hat" 2"-1¼" adapter, it will be parfocal with Tele Vue's Plössls, Radians, Type 6 Naglers, Nagler Zooms, 1½" Panoptics, and 8mm ETHOS eyepieces.

For 1¼" Holders:

1. Prepare the eyepiece: Back off the lock screw in the 2" barrel section of the eyepiece to allow full insertion into the holder.
2. Secure with lock screw (if available): If your holder has a lock screw, rotate the eyepiece so that the screw aligns with and slips into the slot in the 2" section of the eyepiece barrel. The holder's lock screw will clamp onto the 1¼" barrel of the eyepiece, while the eyepiece's own lock screw clamps to the outside of your holder, ensuring maximum safety and preventing accidental drops.
3. Secure without lock screw: If your holder lacks a lock screw, it is crucial to clamp the eyepiece's lock screw onto the outside of the holder. Due to its significant weight (0.97 lbs), the eyepiece can easily fall out of "slip fit" holders if the lock screw is not engaged.

For 2" Holders:

1. Remove eyepiece lock screw: Carefully remove the eyepiece lock screw and store it safely to avoid losing it.
2. Secure with holder lock screw: Use the lock screw on your 2" holder. Exercise caution to prevent it from slipping into the slot in the 2" barrel of the eyepiece.
3. Diagonals: The eyepiece may not "bottom" out on Tele Vue 2" diagonals. Be particularly careful when using diagonals from other manufacturers.

For Newtonians/Dobsonians:

• Coma Correction: For f/5.5 or faster scopes, Tele Vue recommends using their Paracorr coma corrector to eliminate mirror coma. This ensures full field sharpness, similar to that achieved with Tele Vue's NP-Series refractors. Refer to the Paracorr instruction sheet for proper setup.
• Filter Usage with Paracorr: When using a 1¼" filter with the 6mm ETHOS, avoid accidentally setting the Paracorr's tunable top to its lowest position, as the filter's bottom might contact the Paracorr's upper lens. The best practice is to thread a 2" filter onto the front of the Paracorr or to add Tele Vue's 2" extension tube (EBX-2120) to the 2" barrel of the 6mm ETHOS.

Higher Magnifications: For achieving higher magnifications with the 100° field, Tele Vue Barlows and Powermates can be used. When using the 6mm ETHOS in 2" Powermates, its 2" barrel should be utilized.

Astigmatism Correction: If you have eyesight astigmatism, Tele Vue's Dioptrx Astigmatism Corrector can be added to the ETHOS. This allows for the sharpest possible view without needing eyeglasses. More details are available at dioptrx.com.
