Why is my TELLARINI POMPE EEM motor not turning on and making no sound?
    • H
      Heather WintersAug 14, 2025
If your TELLARINI POMPE Water Pump motor isn't turning on and there's no humming sound, it could be due to several reasons. First, check the power supply and ensure the plug is properly inserted. Make sure the switch is in the 'on' position. It's also possible that the system's overcurrent or overload protection has been triggered, so try resetting the protective device. If the issue persists, or there may be an electrical fault or incorrect electric connection, contact a qualified technician. For pumps with internal overload protection, it may have been triggered and will reactivate automatically, but repeated triggering indicates the application is too heavy for the pump.

What to do if my TELLARINI POMPE EEM Water Pump motor is running but there is reduced or no liquid capacity?
    • M
      Michael HendersonAug 18, 2025
If your TELLARINI POMPE Water Pump motor is running but the liquid capacity is reduced or non-existent, consider these possibilities: the suction hose end may be incorrectly positioned (refer to Chapter 4.2.2), there could be air infiltration or liquid leakage (check hoses, hose clamp tightness, and fitting gaskets), or the hoses or filters might be clogged (clean them). Also, the operating head might be too high, so check the head. For other potential issues such as a clogged or worn pump, contact a qualified technician.

Overview

This document describes a TELLARINI POMPE SIDE CHANNEL SELF-PRIMING PUMP, including its user and maintenance manual. The pump is available in various machinery series: EEM, ENM, ENT, ALM, ALT, and partly completed machinery series: EEMQ, ENMQ, ENTQ, ECC, ALMQ, ALTQ, ALCC.

Function Description

The TELLARINI POMPE pump is a self-priming "side channel" type pump designed for transferring and handling liquids. Its key features include very rapid self-priming capacity, meaning it can suction air from the suction hose to start pumping. The pump is designed to avoid damage even if the liquid in the suction tank runs out. For models supplied with alternating current, it offers the possibility of reversing the liquid flow direction. While designed for professional use, it can also be used in domestic environments, provided the user is familiar with its operation as described in the manual.

Important Technical Specifications

The pump's capacity (Q) is the quantity of liquid transferred in a given time, and its speed depends on the total manometric head (H) required by the installation. This head is the sum of the height difference between the destination and origin tanks and energy losses from pipes, valves, and other elements.

Pumped Liquid Properties:

  • Particles: Must have no hard suspended particles (sand, gravel, etc.). If there's a risk, a suitable filter should be installed in the suction hose.
  • Aggressiveness: Must not be aggressive towards the materials it contacts:
    • Pumping body: Brass (EEM, ENM, ENT, ECC series) or AISI 316 stainless steel (AL series).
    • Shaft: AISI 316 stainless steel.
    • Gasket and sealing device: Materials as specified in Chapter 3.5.
    • By-pass (if applicable): Acetalic resin.
  • Viscosity: Not suitable for very viscous liquids (e.g., honey). For ENM, ENT, ALM, ALT series, maximum viscosity is indicated as SAE 30 mineral oil at 40°C. Other series are suitable for liquids with viscosity similar to water.
  • Density: For ENM, ENT, ALM, ALT series: 1.1 g/cm³. Other series: density similar to water.
  • Minimum Temperature: -15°C, or above the freezing temperature of the liquid.
  • Maximum Temperature:
    • Without by-pass: 90°C (NBR rubber, standard), 110°C (EPDM rubber), 130°C (Viton rubber).
    • With by-pass: 90°C.

Examples of Use:

  • Brass pump body (EEM, ENM, ENT, ECC): Water, sea water, gas oil, oil, soaps. Not generally suitable for food products in the EU (UNI EN 13951).
  • AISI 316 stainless steel pump body (AL series): Liquid foods (wine, vinegar, olive oil, milk – requires appropriate washing/disinfection), compatible corrosive liquids (fungicides, liquid fertilizers). Offers longer useful life for liquids permitted for brass pumps.

Environment of Use:

  • Ventilated, clean, dry, closed environment.
  • Normal or marine atmosphere.
  • Ambient temperature: -15°C to 40°C.
  • Maximum relative humidity: 80%.
  • Maximum installation altitude: 1000 meters above sea level.
  • Prohibited: Use in environments with danger of explosion or fire (e.g., with petrol, acetone, solvents).

Power Supply:

  • Indicated on the pump ratings plate ("Motor" box).
  • 1~: Single-phase alternating current.
  • 3~: Three-phase alternating current.
  • =: Direct current.
  • Series ALCC refers to AL 12/20, AL 24/20, AL 12/25, AL 24/25, AL 24/40 pumps.
  • EEMQ, ENMQ, ALMQ, ENTQ, ALTQ series are partly completed machinery, supplied without switch and cable, but with an electrical terminal block.

Shaft Sealing Devices (Chapter 3.5):

  • Ring seal (lip seal): Standard in brass versions (NBR rubber lip seal, unless specified).
  • Mechanical seal (Fig. 3A): Standard in stainless steel AL series (ceramic/graphite/AISI 316/NBR rubber, unless specified). Significantly increases operating hours before maintenance and reduces shaft wear.
  • Optional seals: Viton lip seal, silicon carbide mechanical seals, EPDM rubber, Viton, Teflon are available on request for specific temperature, corrosion, and abrasion requirements.

Usage Features

Installation and Handling (Chapter 4):

  • Check pump weight on ratings plate; use appropriate lifting methods (lifting systems, lift trucks, PPE).
  • Do not lift or transport by power cable, hoses, or projecting parts (inverter/terminal box). Hold the metal part firmly.
  • Position pump in a dry, horizontal place, leaving at least 10 cm clearance in front of the motor cooling fan.
  • Secure feet with bolts to prevent movement/falling.
  • Fill pump body with liquid through one port (first time or if emptied). This is a self-priming pump, but initial filling aids priming.
  • If pumping food substances, perform initial pumping following cleansing procedure (Chapter 4.3).
  • Do not operate the pump dry.

Hose Assembly (Chapter 4.2.2):

  • Screw hose fittings to ports (standard brass, optional nylon/stainless steel for AL series).
  • Use flexible spiral hoses of suitable length and internal diameter, made of material resistant to the pumped liquid's type and temperature, internal vacuum, and pump operating pressure.
  • Secure hose ends to fittings with a hose clamp.
  • No check valve is necessary.
  • If liquid contains hard particles, install a filter in the suction hose.
  • Hoses must not exert excessive force on the pump or be excessively bent.
  • Insert suction hose end into receptacle at least twice the hose diameter and minimum distance from the bottom.
  • Fix discharge hose to prevent extraction, wetting, or contamination. If using dangerous liquids, wear PPE.

Electrical Connection (Chapter 4.2.3):

  • Electrical parts (inverter box ref. 20, terminal box ref. 21) must be disassembled only by qualified technicians.
  • Check cables, plugs, sockets for damage. Protect connections from dampness/sprays.
  • Use cables/components conforming to 2006/95/EC and motor current.
  • Three-phase and direct current motors lack overload protection. Single-phase motors have internal overload protection with automatic reset if "Protetta da sovraccarico - Overload protected" is on the yellow label.

Connection for Single-Phase and Three-Phase Pumps (Chapter 4.2.3.1):

  • Power supply: Voltage/frequency matching ratings plate (tolerances: 10% voltage, 2% frequency).
  • Efficient earthing system with high sensitivity differential switch (30 mA).
  • Protected against overcurrents.
  • Overload protection system calibrated to pump ratings plate current.
  • Power isolation device (for models with cable without plug, terminal block).
  • Models with switch, cable, plug: Use compatible power socket with earthing, away from sprays, accessible. Switch to off (0). Arrange cable to prevent tripping. Insert plug. If extension cable is needed, select according to regulations and pump data.
  • Models with switch, cable, without plug: Connection by qualified technicians only, with power disconnected. Connect earth conductor first, then line conductors.
  • Models with terminal block: Connection by qualified technicians only, with power disconnected. Power cable must have earth conductor.
    • Remove terminal box cover (ref. 21).
    • Insert power cable through ring nut (ref. 27), conical gasket (ref. 28), threaded sleeve (ref. 29), and clamp ring nut.
    • Connect earth conductor to motor casing stud (ref. 23).
    • Connect power conductors to terminal block (ref. 22) per label instructions.
    • Use cable clamping bracket (ref. 24) to fix power cable, checking for security against pulling/twisting.
    • Replace terminal box cover.

Connection for Direct Current Pumps (Chapter 4.2.3.2):

  • Power supply: Voltage matching ratings plate (tolerances: +5% -10%).
  • Protected against overcurrents.
  • Equipped with overload protection system.
  • Power isolation device.
  • Designed for battery supply. If other generators are used, assess risk of dangerous voltages on accessible metal parts. Negative pole of terminal block is connected to motor casing.
  • Connection instructions:
    • Remove terminal box (ref. 21).
    • Insert power cable through cable grommet.
    • Connect to terminal block complying with polarity (+, -).
    • Secure cable against pulling/twisting if necessary.

Starting and Stopping (Chapter 4.2.4):

  • Do not start before installation is complete, with wet hands, or on wet surfaces.
  • Do not insert fingers/objects through ports (moving parts).
  • Check hose positioning.
  • If supplied with switch, turn to "on" for desired pumping direction. If with terminal block, connect to power supply.
  • Caution: Check for leaks/sprays; stop pump immediately if present.
  • Do not run pump with hoses completely closed for more than one minute.
  • Pump will start transferring liquid after a short priming period.
  • If pumping fails and suction hose bubbles air, the pump is pumping in the opposite direction. Stop and reverse pumping direction or invert hose connections.
  • Supervision: Always supervise operation. Check for motor overheating, speed reduction/stopping, abnormal noises. If any occur, stop pump, remove plug (if present), and consult Chapter 6.
  • Brass pumps (type 20, 25, 30, 35, 40) running dry (to be avoided) may produce noise from impeller sliding on shaft, which is not a fault.
  • To stop, position switch to stop (0) or disconnect power supply.
  • After stopping: Pump remains filled with liquid, essential for priming. If ambient temperature may drop below freezing, empty pump body to prevent breakage.

Use of By-Pass (Optional Device) (Chapter 4.4):

  • A knob on the outside adjusts capacity and head.
  • Rotating counter-clockwise reduces maximum capacity to half and maximum head by a quarter.
  • During priming, close the by-pass completely (rotate clockwise) as priming capacity is greatly reduced when open.

Demolition (Chapter 4.5):

  • At end of life, demolish pump according to country standards.
  • Do not neglect any liquid residue.
  • EU countries: Pump is EEE. Dispose at WEEE collection point for recycling.

Maintenance Features
