DESCALING
In hard water areas furring or lime deposits forming on the concealed element may result in increased boiling
time and affect the kettle operation. If this deposit is not removed it can cause damage to the kettle. The scale
can be removed by using an appropriate descaler available from Tesco and hardware stores or chemists.
Follow the instructions with the descaler. After descaling boil the kettle several times with fresh water before
use. Do not descale too often as this may shorten the life of the element. Thoroughly clean the exterior of your
kettle to remove any traces of descaler; failure to do so may damage it.
Do not immerse any part of this appliance in water or other liquid when cleaning the appliance and never use
any abrasive cleaners or scourers.
STORAGE
Excess cord can be stowed by feeding the cord into the storage cavity in the base of the unit. When not in use
the kettle should be stored on its base out of the reach of children and pets.
WARRANTY
Your TESCO appliance is warranted for 12 months from the date of purchase. If a fault develops during this

the slot at the base of the spout. Press the catch down and
ease the filter into place. Do not use force.
Boil Switch with Auto Cut-Out
When boiling water, do NOT hold the switch down or steam will be ejected from the lid and you may
damage the automatic switch off mechanism. Always ensure that the ON/OFF switch is clear of
obstructions, readily operable and is not prevented from switching off.
Boil Dry Protection
Your kettle is fitted with a safety device which switches it off if the appliance is operated with insufficient
water. If this occurs, the kettle should be switched off at the mains and allowed to cool thoroughly before
refilling with cold water. The safety device will then reset.
Overheating Shut -Off
In the event of gross overheating, your kettle will automatically shut down to prevent further damage.
Should this occur, take it to a qualified service person for examination and repair.
CLEANING
Switch off at the mains and remove the plug from the socket outlet before cleaning. The appliance can be
wiped clean with a damp cloth.

Overview

This document describes the Tesco Electric Kettle, models JKRWP13 and JKRBP13, a household appliance designed for boiling water.

Function Description

The Tesco Electric Kettle is primarily used for heating water quickly and efficiently for various domestic purposes. It features a concealed heating element that minimizes scale build-up and ensures faster boiling times. The kettle is equipped with an ON/OFF switch that illuminates when operational and automatically cuts off once the water reaches boiling point. It also incorporates safety features such as boil-dry protection and an overheating shut-off mechanism to prevent damage to the appliance and ensure user safety. The kettle is designed for indoor domestic use only and must be attended to when operational.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Voltage Rating: 220-240V AC, 50Hz
  • Power Consumption: 2550-3000W
  • Water Capacity: 1.5 litres (with MIN mark at 0.5 litres)
  • Net Weight: 940g
  • Earthing: The appliance must be earthed.
  • Components: The kettle consists of a kettle jug (8) with a spout (1), water filter (2), kettle lid (3), lid release button (4), handle (5), illuminated water scale (9), and a kettle base (7) with an ON/OFF switch (6).

Usage Features

Before First Use or After Storage: To prepare the kettle for use, fill it with fresh water, boil the water, and then pour it away. This process should be repeated two or three times before the kettle is ready for regular use.

Operation:

  1. Preparation: Unpack the kettle and accessories. Ensure the voltage marked on the rating plate matches your mains voltage.
  2. Placement: Separate the kettle jug from its base. Switch off the mains socket. Lead the power cord through the recess in the base and place the kettle base on a stable, level surface. Connect the power cord to the wall socket. Excess cord can be stowed in the storage compartment in the base, ensuring the cable exits the cut-out slot for stability.
  3. Filling: Pour away any previously boiled water. Press the lid release button (4) to lift the lid (3). Fill the kettle with fresh water, ensuring the water level is between the MIN (0.5 litres) and MAX (1.5 litres) marks on the illuminated water scale (9). Do not overfill to prevent boiling water from ejecting. Close the lid securely.
  4. Boiling: Place the filled kettle correctly on the power base. Switch on the power at the wall socket. Press the ON/OFF switch (6) down to the "I" position to switch on the kettle. The water scale will illuminate, indicating operation. The kettle will automatically switch off when the water reaches boiling temperature.
  5. Stopping Boiling: Boiling can be stopped at any time by lifting the switch up to the "0" position. To re-boil, press the switch again; if the water is very hot, a short wait may be necessary for the switch to reset.
  6. Pouring: After boiling, switch off the appliance at the mains. The kettle can then be safely removed from its base, and the boiled water poured out. Pour slowly and carefully, avoiding tipping the kettle too quickly. Do not leave hot water in the kettle unattended.
  7. Storage: After use, replace the kettle on its base. Excess cord can be stowed in the base's storage cavity. Store the kettle on its base, out of reach of children and pets.

Safety Precautions:

  • Do not touch the hot body of the kettle; always use the handle.
  • Ensure the lid is closed during use to prevent the thermostat from switching off and boil-dry conditions.
  • Keep the appliance away from hot surfaces and objects that can be damaged by heat.
  • Ensure adequate room for operation and steam escape; avoid using under cupboards or shelves.
  • Avoid contact with steam from the spout.
  • Be careful when opening the lid for refilling when the kettle is hot.
  • Do not fill or pour water while the kettle is on its base.
  • Disconnect from mains supply before filling, emptying, cleaning, or when not in use.
  • Do not immerse the connecting cord, terminal pins, or base in water or other liquids.
  • Do not let the connecting cord overhang the work surface or touch hot surfaces.
  • If damaged or malfunctioning, seek expert assistance.
  • Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced capabilities, can use the appliance with supervision and understanding of hazards. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance by children should be supervised.
  • Keep the appliance and cord out of reach of children under 8 years.
  • Do not place the power base unit on a metal tray or surface when plugged in.
  • This kettle jug and power base form an integral appliance; do not mix with other kettle components.
  • The ON/OFF switch must be readily operable and unobstructed.

Boil Dry Protection: If the kettle is operated with insufficient water, a safety device will switch it off. In this event, switch off the kettle at the mains, allow it to cool thoroughly, refill with cold water, and the device will reset.

Overheating Shut-Off: In cases of gross overheating, the kettle will automatically shut down to prevent further damage. If this occurs, the kettle should be taken to a qualified service person for examination and repair.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  1. Switch off at the mains and remove the plug before cleaning.
  2. Wipe the appliance clean with a damp cloth.
