Overview

The Thermomate ET060 is a tankless electric water heater designed to provide on-demand hot water, promoting a "Live Smart, Better Life!" experience. This appliance is intended for permanent connection to fixed wiring and requires a 240V, single-phase electrical supply.

Function Description

The ET060 operates as an electronically regulated continuous-flow water heater with automatic temperature adjustment. It maintains a constant outflow temperature, ensuring a consistent hot water supply. The device is activated by water flow, with a minimum required flow rate of 0.26 GPM (gallons per minute). When the tap is opened and the flow rate is met, the heating elements engage to heat the water as it passes through the unit. The user can adjust the desired outlet temperature using touch keys on the device.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model: ET060
  • Power: 240V 6kW
  • Rated Current: 25A
  • Minimum Required Circuit Breaker: 30A
  • Minimum Wire Size: 12AWG (American Wire Gauge)
  • Minimum Water Flow to Activate Unit: 0.26 GPM
  • Net Weight: 3.98 lb
  • Product Dimensions: 10.95" x 7.4" x 2.52"
  • Water Connections: 1/2" NPT
  • Maximum Inlet Water Pressure: 150 PSI (1.0 MPa)
  • Resistivity of Water Supply: Not less than 3300 Ω•in

The appliance is a close-outlet type, meaning its water connection must be integrated into an unvented water heating system. It is designed to be protected by a Class A ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). Only copper conductors should be used for wiring, in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Each heating element is marked with its manufacturer's part number and electrical rating.

Usage Features

The ET060 features a digital display that shows the current water temperature. Operation is straightforward with touch keys:

  • A dedicated touch key is used to switch the unit on and off.
  • Separate touch keys ( and ) allow users to decrease or increase the outlet setting temperature as desired.

The device is designed to prevent scalding by automatically adjusting the temperature. However, users are cautioned that if the selected outflow temperature is not reached when the tap is fully opened, it indicates that the water flow exceeds the device's capacity. In such cases, the flow should be reduced using the hot water valve to avoid outflow temperatures exceeding 108°F (42°C).

The manual emphasizes that mixer taps and thermostatic mixer taps used with the ET060 should be compatible with devices that have flow control. If shower heads are used, they must have low pressure loss. Fittings designed for open-outlet water heaters should not be used; only fittings for close-outlet water heaters are compatible.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides instructions for ensuring the long life and reliable operation of the appliance, including:

  • Safety First: All supply circuits must be disconnected before removing the cover or accessing terminals. The main water valve should be closed before any work is done on the water pipe.
  • Grounding: The appliance must be properly grounded, and a wire connector marked "" is provided for wiring to the grounding terminal of the electric service or supply panel with a continuous copper wire.
  • Water Supply Interruption: In case of water supply interruption (e.g., for maintenance), specific steps must be followed before returning the device to operation:
    1. Remove fuses or isolate the device.
    2. Open a hot water valve connected to the device until air is vented from both the device and the cold-water supply pipe.
    3. Reconnect the supply.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
    • No heating/digital display off: Suggests checking breakers at the main electrical panel and verifying wiring.
    • No heating/digital display on but no temperature: Points to low flow rate (below 0.26 GPM), air bubbles in the water heater, or blockages in the filter mat/pipe. Solutions include increasing flow rate, purging air, and cleaning the filter mat.
    • "E1" Display (Overheated): Indicates the product is overheated; suggests lowering the setting temperature or replacing the temperature measurer.
    • "E2" Display (Leakage of Electricity): Requires contacting the maintenance department.
    • "E3" Display (Inlet Temperature Measurer Broken): Requires replacing the temperature measurer.
    • "E4" Display (Outlet Temperature Measurer Broken): Requires replacing the temperature measurer.
    • Water not hot enough: Possible causes include user temperature setting too low, flow rate too high (exceeding heating capacity), crossed wires (for new installations), voltage less than 240 volts (reducing heating power), or mixing too much cold water. Solutions range from increasing temperature settings and reducing flow rate (possibly with a Flow Regulator) to checking wiring and considering a larger input heater if voltage is consistently low.

The installation, commissioning, and maintenance of this appliance should only be performed by personnel with electrical engineering qualifications, in accordance with relevant standards and regulations, and this manual. The appliance nameplate and technical specifications should always be observed. The appliance is not to be installed in locations where freezing can occur. No changes may be made to the appliance. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards.
