Overview

This document describes the Spinflo by Thetford Radiant Gas Fire, a range of build-in appliances designed for heating.

Function Description:

The Spinflo Radiant Gas Fire is a heating appliance designed to be built into a structure, providing warmth through radiant heat. It is suitable for use with either Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or Natural Gas, depending on the specific model. The appliance features a control knob for adjusting the heat output between "PILOT/LOW" and "HIGH" settings, and an "OFF" position. An Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) system is fitted as standard, which will extinguish the flame if the evacuation of combustion products is interrupted, ensuring safety. The appliance is designed for installation in well-ventilated areas, specifically holiday homes, and requires proper flue ducting for safe operation.

Usage Features:

  • Control Positions: The appliance features a control knob with "HIGH," "PILOT/LOW," and "OFF" settings.
  • Ignition: To ignite, press in the control knob, rotate anti-clockwise until the spark igniter clicks twice, and ensure pilot and main burner flames are established. If ignition fails, return to "OFF" and repeat, holding the knob depressed for longer. Once lit, hold the knob for approximately fifteen seconds before releasing.
  • Operation: After ignition, the fire starts on "LOW." Rotate the knob fully anti-clockwise to adjust to "HIGH." To turn "OFF," rotate the knob fully clockwise until the line on the knob is adjacent to "O."
  • Safety Features: An ODS system is standard, extinguishing the flame if combustion product evacuation is interrupted. If the ODS system repeatedly operates, the gas supply should be turned off, and a dealer contacted.
  • Flame Characteristics:
    • Propane/Natural Gas: Flames should burn quietly with a blue/green colour, with no yellow tips.
    • Butane: Normally on initial lighting, a small amount of yellow tipping will occur and then slightly increases as the burner heats up.
  • Ventilation: The appliance must be used in a well-ventilated area. Natural ventilation holes should be kept open, or a mechanical ventilation device installed. Prolonged intensive use may require additional ventilation (e.g., opening a window).
  • Positioning: Must be positioned free from draughts to prevent accumulation of unburnt gas and ensure air vents are not blocked.
  • Gas Type: This appliance is suitable only for LPG or Natural Gas as specified and should not be used on any other gas.
  • Gas Pressure: The gas supply input pressure must not rise or fall by more than 2.5 mbar (Butane/Propane) or 1.0 mbar (Natural Gas) from nominal when all connected appliances are operated simultaneously.
  • LP Gas Installation Restriction: An appliance for LP Gas shall not be installed in a room or internal space below ground level (e.g., in a basement).

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The appliance requires little maintenance other than cleaning. All parts should be cleaned using a duster or a damp cloth. Abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or cleansing powders should not be used. The control knob is a push fit and can be removed for cleaning.
  • Servicing: All servicing must be carried out by an approved competent person. After each service, the appliance must be checked for gas soundness.
  • Annual Check: At least once every 12 months, the fire, flue, and terminal should be checked for correct operation.
  • Leak Detection: NEVER check for leaks with a naked flame. NEVER use soapy water for leak detection, as salt and other ingredients in soap can seriously damage precision components.
  • Component Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing various components, including:
    • Front cover
    • Lamp (Model FI21000 Only)
    • Appliance from housing
    • Control
    • Burner
    • Burner injector
    • Thermocouple
    • ODS / pilot
    • Radiant
  • Flue Pipe: The flue pipe supplied with the fire is the only pipe that should be used. It is Ø75mm internally and must be secured with worm drive clips. The flue terminal (cowl) supplied is the only type that can be used.
  • Gas Joints: Do not overtighten gas joints. When remaking a joint, hand tighten the nut onto the olive, then make gas tight by turning no more than 2 flats using a spanner.
