Congratulations on
your
purchase
of
the THIEL model CS2
loudspeaker
system.
lt
is the result
of a
long
and dedicated
eftort to
provide
very
accu-
rate music reproduction. We have
used
only the
highest
quality
compo-
nents
and
taken
great
care
in its
construction.
Properly set up
and used
with
good
associated equipment, the
CS2s
will
provide you
with a
great
deal
of musical
enjoyment
for many
years.
Speaker
Placement
The
CS2s are
relatively non-critical
to room
placement
and will
provide good
results
almost anywhere.
However,
we recommend they be
placed
at
least
one
foot from a wall
and at
least three feet from
a corner, They
perform
best when
positioned
even farther
from
all
walls.
as
this minimizes
early
reflections
and
room resonances and so
provides
the
most
open,
uncolored
reproduction
as
well
as the
most accurate bass
response.
The
CS2s
provide
broad dispersion of energy at all
freqLrencies
and
are designed to
provide good
results
throughout
a
large listening area Best
imaging is
provided
for a
lis-
tener centered
in
front of the
speakers Optimum
phase
and time alignment
is
provided
only
for
a seated
listener
who
is
eight or more feet away
frrm
the speakers.
Optimum
imaging
is
usually achieved
when the
speakers
and the
listenerform an equi-
lateral
triangle. lf the
speakers are too
far
apart for a
given
environment,
there will tend to
be a
hole' in
the
mrddle
of the
sound
stage.
if
lhey
are
to() close together.
the image wi
be compressed and
will
not
achieve
optimum width Also,
the
speakers should
not
usually
be
toed in
toward the
listener
but should be
positioned pointing
forward,
parallel
to each
other.
Since every
listenrng
environment
is
different.

Connecting
the
Speakers
The
CS2
s
input
terminals
are
located
on
the bottom of
the
speaker
To
gain
access to
these
the
speaker should be
laid
on
its
back
It is
essential
for
proper
performance
that both speakers
in
a stereo system
be wired
in
the same
polarity
The input terminals
are
color coded to
facilitate
this
The wire con-
nected to
the
red input
terminal of each speaker should c()nnect to
the
respective
posi-
tive
output
terminals
of the amplif
ier The
speakers should
be connected to the amplifier
with heavy
guage
wire
to
insure
minimal
loss
of
power
and
proper
control by
the
amplifier
lf tle
speakers are
being
connected to a
tube
amplifier

impedance taps.
either
the 4 ohm
or the 8 ohm tap
will
give good
results. Make
sure
that all connections
ate
ttght.
Stablilizer
Pins
Speakers
positioned
on a soft surface such as carpetino
or
an uneven
surface are able
to
rock back
and
forth
slightly and
will vibrate in reaction to those
forces
the speaker
generates
to move
the driver Ciaphragms
(Every
action
has
an
equal and opposite
reac-
tion.)
This motion
of the speaker causes a
loss
of
musical information and
reduces
the
clarity
of the music
In
order
to
eliminate this effect. the
THIEL
CS2 can be used
with
stabilizer oins.
The
stabilizer
pins,
either of two types,
are
pushed
into three
pre-drilled
holes in the base of
each speaker
The
pointed pins
are
for
speakers
that will
ire
placed
on a
carpeted sur-
face The
point penetrates
the
carpet and
allows the speaker to
rest firmly on the
floor.
The rounded
stabilizer
pins
are
for
speakers that are
placed
on a hard, uneven surface,
The three
pins provide
a stable foundation
which
eliminates some
obscuring of
informa-
tion and
produces
a cleaner, more articulate sound.
