Overview

The Elastimold 650/675 ETP (Elbow Tap Plug) is a high-voltage electrical component designed for use in underground power distribution systems. It functions as a tap plug, allowing for the creation of a 200-ampere loadbreak tap at system voltage. The device is rated for 15kV (8.3kV line-to-ground and 14.4kV line-to-line) and is identified by a white band, with a yellow band indicating full seating.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage Rating: 15kV (8.3kV line-to-ground, 14.4kV line-to-line).
  • Loadbreak Tap Rating: 200 amperes.
  • 600 Ampere Deadbreak Interface:
    • 650ETP(1): 600 ampere load current, 25,000 amperes short circuit current for 10 cycles.
    • 675ETP(1): 900 ampere load current, 25,000 amperes short circuit current for 10 cycles.
  • 200 Ampere Loadbreak Interface:
    • 200 amperes load current, 10,000 amperes fault-close current.
    • For higher short circuit current, this interface must only be operated de-energized, and elbows used for taps or grounding must be adequately secured with a bail.
  • Fault Current Limitation: The available fault current must be limited to 10,000 amperes when using this product.

Usage Features:

The installation process for the 650/675 ETP involves several steps, emphasizing safety and proper connection:

  1. Cable Preparation:

    • Prepare the cable using a spade contact.
    • Install an elbow as described in the (K)650LR or 750LR installation instructions.
    • Before the first crimp on the spade contact, align it on the cable so it lies flat on the apparatus bushing contact.
  2. Component Preparation and Lubrication:

    • Remove protective caps from the elbow connector and the tap plug.
    • Finger-tighten the double-ended stud (if applicable) into the tap plug.
    • Clean and lubricate the entire mating connector interface, elbow connector interfaces, and the tap plug as noted, using the supplied lubricant or an ELASTIMOLD-approved lubricant.
  3. Assembly:

    • Assemble the elbow connector onto the mating connector.
    • Assemble the tap plug into the elbow connector.
    • Insert the drive adapter into the tap plug.
    • Turn the drive adapter clockwise while pushing the elbow and tap plug toward the mating connector.
    • Continue rotating the drive adapter clockwise with an appropriate tool to a torque of 50-60 ft-lbs.
    • Remove the drive adapter from the tap plug.
  4. Grounding (Step 4):

    • Insert one end of a #14AWG copper wire (or equivalent) through the grounding eye of the elbow.
    • Leave sufficient length to allow for elbow movement if required.
    • Make a small loop and twist tightly, taking care not to damage the eye.
  5. Grounding (Step 5A - Concentric Wire Shielded Cable):

    • Twist the shield wires together.
    • Connect them and the grounding eye wire to ground using an appropriate connector.
    • Leave sufficient length for elbow movement.
    • For three-phase installations, all grounds from all three phases must be tied to a common ground point.
    • If the cable is jacketed, install appropriate waterproofing at the jacket terminus to prevent moisture entry.
  6. Grounding (Step 5B - Metallic Tape Shielded Cable):

    • Connect the metallic shield of the cable to ground using a jumper of equivalent ampacity to the metallic shield.
    • Install appropriate waterproofing at the jacket terminus.
    • Connect the elbow connector grounding eye wire to ground.
  7. Final Assembly (Step 6):

    • Clean and lubricate the entire tap plug interface and either a DR(G) (Insulated Cap), ESA (Elbow Arrester), GLR (Grounding Elbow), or LR (Elbow Connector) of the appropriate voltage class. Use the lubricant supplied or ELASTIMOLD-approved lubricant.
    • Install the chosen component (DR(G), ESA, GLR, or LR) to the tap plug interface following its specific instructions.
  8. Seating Indication (Step 7):

    • Complete assembly of an insulated cap or elbow is indicated when no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side.

Maintenance Features:

  • Inspection: Before installation, inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts.
  • Lubrication: Lubrication is a critical step during installation to ensure proper seating and electrical contact. Only supplied or ELASTIMOLD-approved lubricant should be used.
  • Cleanliness: Maintaining cleanliness throughout the installation procedure is emphasized as important.
