Function Description

The TSol503 controller offers comprehensive management for solar thermal systems. Its primary function is to regulate the temperature of the collector and the storage tank (boiler/pool) to optimize energy collection and distribution. It supports both natural and forced circulation setups.

Key functions include:

  • Boiler/Pool Management: Controls the charging of the boiler or pool based on temperature differentials between the solar collector (S1) and the storage tank (S2 or S3). It uses various thermostats (THS300, THD120, THS102, THS202, THS203) and hysteresis settings (HYS300, HYD120, HYS102, HYS202, HYS203) to activate or deactivate the solar pump (P4) and manage maximum temperatures.
  • Sanitary Increasing: Manages a sanitary valve (P3) to divert hot water to the sanitary water output when the temperature at S3 exceeds THS305, with hysteresis HYS305.
  • Boiler Integration: Activates an output for boiler integration (P5) when the temperature at S3 falls below THS302, with hysteresis HYS302.
  • Solar Circuit Cooling: Manages the cooling of the solar circuit to prevent over-temperature. This involves diverting collector fluid to a cooler (P3) if S1 exceeds THS104 (HYS104) or charging the boiler/pool to their maximum thermostats (THS100, HYS100, THS303, HYS303) if S1 exceeds THS100. It also blocks the solar pump if S1 exceeds THS103 (HYS103).
  • Panel Protection: Activates an output for panel protection (e.g., a shutter or tent) if the temperature at S1 exceeds THS103, with hysteresis HYS103.
  • Bucket Charge (Carica a Secchi): A function to increase collector temperature under low radiation conditions. If the differential between S1 and S2 exists, but S1 and S3 are below THS301 (HYS301), the solar pump operates in a timed pause/work cycle (TIM001/TIM002) for a set number of cycles (COU000), then deactivates for a period (TIM000). This function is automatically deactivated if Stratification is enabled, and vice-versa.
  • Holiday Function: Configures the system for long periods of inactivity. When active, it cools the boiler, disables boiler integration, and cools the boiler via the solar circuit if S2 exceeds THS201 (HYS201) with a negative S1-S2 differential.
  • De-Ice Function (Antighiaccio): Activates the solar pump in a pause/work mode (TIM012/TIM013) if the temperature at S1 falls below THS101 (HYS101).
  • Stratification: Manages the charging of different boiler zones. If S1-S3 differential exists, the upper boiler zone is charged to THS306 (HYS306), then the lower zone to THS300. If only S1-S2 differential exists, the lower zone is charged in pause/work mode. After a set number of cycles (COU001), the function deactivates for a period (TIM017). This function is automatically deactivated if Bucket Charge is enabled, and vice-versa.
  • Pumps De-Block (Antiblocco Pompe): Prevents pump seizure by periodically activating outputs P3, P4, or P5 for a set duration (TIM020) after a specified waiting time (TIM019).

The device features an LCD display (128x64 graphic backlight) that shows real-time information such as probe temperatures, alarm codes, and system status (e.g., pump ON, valve direction, holiday function active, boiler integration ON, cooling circuit active, panel protection ON, alarms in course, pool active, exchanger with plates).

Usage Features

The TSol503 is designed for ease of use and configuration.

  • Navigation: The device uses buttons P4/P6 for menu scrolling and value adjustment, P3 for entering menus and confirming selections, P1 for exiting menus, and P5 for scrolling through probe temperatures on the main screen or for special functions.
  • Menu Structure: The main menu is divided into "Installer Menu" and "User Menu." The Installer Menu provides access to all parameters, including settings, thermostats, parameters, functions (Bucket Charge, Holiday, De-Ice, Stratification, Pumps De-Block), statistics, output tests, language, initialization, password change, user menu access, and keyboard menu. The User Menu provides access only to parameters relevant to the end-user.
  • First Power ON: Upon initial power-up, the controller displays available plant configurations, allowing the installer to select the appropriate system using P4/P6 and confirming with P3. This function is also available in the Installer Menu under "Initialization."
  • Password Protection: Access to the Installer Menu is protected by a password, which can be changed. If no buttons are pressed for an extended period in the Installer Menu, the system automatically reverts to the User Menu.
  • Display Regulation: The "Keyboard Menu" allows adjustment of display contrast and minimum light regulation using P4/P6 for value adjustment and P3 for confirmation.
  • Language Selection: The "Language" menu allows the user to set the desired language.
  • System Initialization: The "Initialization" menu allows re-initializing the system and selecting a different plant configuration.
  • Statistics: The "Statistics" menu provides access to historical alarm data and allows resetting counters and alarms.
  • Output Test: The "Outputs Test" menu allows verifying the functionality of each output by setting them to ON (1). The system automatically restores the previous state upon exiting this menu.

Maintenance Features

  • Probe Management: The TSol503 uses PT1000 temperature probes. The display indicates "Short" for short-circuited probes and "Open" for disconnected or broken probes. It's crucial to use probes within their declared operating range.
  • Wiring Guidelines: For correct and safe operation, all electrical connections must be grounded. Low-tension signals (probes, contacts) should be kept separate from high-tension signals (power supply, loads) to minimize interference. Probe cables can be extended up to 30 meters using 2x1 mm shielded cable to prevent interference.
  • Error Handling: The system provides alarm codes (A01-A05) for various issues, including collector over-temperature, boiler over-temperature, collector de-ice conditions, and probe errors (unconnected or short-circuited). These alarms are visible in the "Statistics" menu.
  • Installation Environment: The TSol503 should only be installed in dry environments with correct climatic conditions.
  • Regular Checks: The "Pumps De-Block" function acts as a maintenance feature, periodically activating pumps to prevent blockages, ensuring their longevity.
