Usage Features:

Installation Process:

  1. Footing Preparation: Dig a 36-inch square or round hole to a depth of 56 inches. Pour an 8-inch concrete footing or place two 8-inch concrete blocks. Local building codes must be adhered to, especially if requirements exceed those outlined.
  2. Upright Placement: Install the 6" x 6" plastic end cap onto the top of the post using a rubber mallet before raising it onto the footing. Position and square the upright onto the footing base.
  3. Concrete Pour: Pour the remainder of the concrete, allowing it to fully cure according to manufacturer's instructions before attaching the outrigger and backboard.
  4. Outrigger Attachment (Detail A): Attach the outrigger to the upright using 3/4"-10 hardware. Leveling can be achieved by placing aluminum flashing behind the mounting plate if needed. The top hole of the backboard mounting plate should be 119 inches off the playing surface.
  5. Backboard Bracket Attachment (Detail E): Attach the appropriate brace mounting bracket to the back of the backboard. The bracket type depends on the backboard ordered and will be included with the backboard or in the general kit. For rectangular steel backboards, the spacing between right-angle brackets is approximately 36 inches.
  6. Backboard Attachment (Section B-B): Lift and attach the backboard to the outrigger using only the top two fasteners and tee nuts. The tee nuts should be against the backboard to facilitate easy goal replacement.
  7. Support Braces (Details F and G): Install the 1 5/16" DIA support braces to the backboard and outrigger. Plumb and level the backboard before tightening the hardware.
  8. Goal Attachment (Section B-B): Attach the goal using the remaining hardware. Ensure a washer is placed between the board and the goal in the lower two holes to keep the goal perpendicular to the backboard. The lower two bolts' orientation is important. For added safety, exposed threads and nuts should be on the backside of the backboard.

Tools Required for Assembly:

  • 1 1/8" Socket Wrench and Combination Wrench
  • 9/16" Socket Wrench and Combination Wrench
  • Rubber Mallet

Maintenance Features:

Important Notice for Maintenance:

  1. Regular Inspection: Equipment should be checked regularly for proper connecting hardware and structural integrity.
  2. Replacement of Damaged Parts: Any damaged or missing hardware must be replaced immediately.
  3. Intended Use: Use of this equipment other than intended may be hazardous.
  4. No Alterations: Alteration or modification of this equipment may be hazardous and result in injury.

The system's design with tee nuts for backboard attachment (Section B-B) specifically facilitates easy replacement of the goal, which is a key maintenance feature. The use of galvanized or powder-coated black poles indicates a focus on durability and weather resistance, reducing the frequency of major structural maintenance. Regular checks of all fasteners and structural components are crucial to ensure the safety and longevity of the basketball system.
