How to troubleshoot a TMG TMG-PC150K Garbage Disposal when the motor will not start?
    • A
      anthonymccallAug 11, 2025
If your TMG Garbage Disposal motor won't start, begin by verifying that the ON/OFF switch is in the ‘ON’ position. Then, ensure that there is an adequate fuel supply. If your disposal has a Honda or Kama motor, check the crankcase oil level; these motors have an oil sensor that prevents starting if the oil level is too low. Finally, make sure the carburetor jet and bowl are clean.

Overview

This document is a product manual for the TMG-PC150K Reversible Plate Compactor, manufactured by TMG Industrial. It provides comprehensive information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The TMG-PC150K Reversible Plate Compactor is a machine designed to compact ground surfaces by transmitting vibrations through a vibrating plate. The power for this vibration is generated by a single motor housed in a vibrator case. Its primary purpose is to smooth ground surfaces, level soil and beaching, and finish asphalt paving. The machine's vibratory motion provides a self-propelling action, making it easier for the operator to guide. The power source (engine) is connected to a centrifugal clutch, which then transmits power via a V-belt to an eccentric rotary shaft within the vibrator unit. This eccentric rotation generates the necessary vibration for compaction.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual outlines several key technical aspects, though specific numerical values for engine power or compaction force are not provided directly in the general description.

  • Engine Type: Air-cooled single-cylinder engine. Petrol engines (2-cycle, 4-cycle) and Diesel Gasoline engines can be mounted as options. Honda and Kama motors are mentioned as being fitted with an oil alert device.
  • Clutch: Centrifugal Clutch, which engages when the engine runs up to approximately 2,300-2,600 RPM.
  • V-belt Tension: Adjustable, with a normal slack of approximately 10-15 mm (1/2'') when forcibly depressed.
  • Oil Specifications: SAE 30 motor oil for Spring/Summer/Autumn (+120°F to +40°F), SAE 20 for Winter (+40°F to +15°F), and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below +15°F.
  • Spark Plug Gap: 0.6-0.7 mm (0.02-0.03 in.).
  • Vibrator Oil: SAE motor oil, checked monthly.
  • Maximum No-Load Motor Speed: Not to exceed 3,500 r/min.

Usage Features:

  • Applications: Best suited for compacting bituminous and granular materials (granular soils, gravels, sands, or mixtures). It is effective for trench compaction, road maintenance, brick paving, earth works, landscaping, and driveway toppings.
  • Limitations: Not suitable for soil with high water content (especially clay soil) or for leveling ground with large stones due to insufficient compacting force. It is not effective for jobs requiring heavy compaction into lower layers; for such tasks, Tamping Rammer, Vibrato Compactor, or Vibration Roller are recommended.
  • Operation Control: The motor is controlled by an ON/OFF switch or push button, and speed is regulated by a remote throttle lever on the handle.
  • Starting Procedure (Gasoline Engine): Turn STOP SWITCH to "ON," open fuel cock, set speed control lever 1/3 to 1/2 towards high speed, close choke lever (adjust based on engine temperature), pull starter handle slowly until resistance, then swiftly.
  • Starting Procedure (Diesel Engine): Turn throttle lever to START position (open by about 30 degrees), pull starter knob slowly until resistance, then further until resistance reduces, return knob slowly.
  • Warm-up: After starting, allow the engine to warm up for 2-3 minutes, especially in winter.
  • Compaction Operation: Gradually move choke lever to OPEN, then speed control lever from LOW to HIGH. Avoid slow movement of the speed control lever to prevent clutch slip.
  • Asphalt Compaction: Advised to paint the bottom face of the vibrating plate with diesel fuel to prevent sticking.
  • Steering: Controlled by moving the handle sideways.
  • Shutdown (Emergency): Turn stop switch to OFF.
  • Shutdown (Normal): Set speed control lever to LOW for 2-3 minutes, then turn stop switch to OFF, and close fuel cock.
  • Safety: Emphasizes reading the manual, wearing protective gear (hard hat, shatterproof glasses, steel-toed boots), avoiding loose clothing, operating in well-ventilated areas (carbon monoxide hazard), not touching hot components, stopping the engine before refueling, and securing the machine during transport.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Service: Remove mud/dirt, clean the bottom face of the vibrating plate, check and clean the air cleaner element, and check/re-tighten all nuts, bolts, and screws.
  • Weekly Service: Check and clean the air cleaner element. Dirty elements can cause starting difficulty, power loss, engine malfunctions, and shorten engine life.
  • Monthly Service: Change the oil in the vibrator assembly.
  • Engine Oil: Check daily. Refill if low using specified motor oil. First oil change for new engines should be after 20 hours of operation.
  • Vibrator Oil: Check weekly. Remove the oil plug, ensure the compactor is level, and the oil level should be up to the plug. Replace monthly.
  • Spark Plug: Remove, clean, and adjust the gap to 0.6-0.7mm (0.02-0.03 in.).
  • Air Cleaner Element (Urethane Foam): Remove, wash in kerosene or diesel fuel, saturate in a mixture of 3 parts kerosene/diesel fuel and 1 part engine oil, then squeeze and reinstall.
  • V-belt: Check tension regularly.
  • Anti-Vibration Mounts: Inspect rubber mounts for wear or deterioration.
  • Underside of Plate: Clean regularly to prevent material buildup.
  • Bearings: Centrifugal Clutch bearings are grease lubricated and sealed; Vibrator bearings are oil bath lubricated and sealed.
  • Storage: For long periods, drain fuel from the tank, fuel pipe, and carburetor. Pour a few drops of motor oil into the cylinder (after removing the spark plug) and rotate the engine by hand to coat the interior. Clean the machine's exterior with an oil-moistened cloth, cover it, and store in a humidity-free area.
  • Repairs: Ensure repairs to the motor and machine are carried out by specialists.
