GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The TOA 480-SE is a 3-way loudspeaker system specifically
developed for the reproduction of electronic music. Analog
and digital keyboard synthesizers, drum machines, and
guitar synths require a speaker system with a wide frequency
response, high power capacity and the ability to handle the
extreme dynamic range these instruments produce. The TOA
480-SE was designed to meet these stringent requirements.
The 480 system consists of a bass reflex enclosure, housing
an 18-inch woofer a high efficiency compression driver
coupled to a constand directivity horn, and an exponential
horn tweeter The cast frame 18-inch woofer employs a
powerful magnet structure and a 4-inch, edge-wound voice
coil to achieve high efficiency in the ultra-low frequency
ranges. The constant directivity horn ensures a uniform
dispersion pattern of 90 degrees horizontal and 40 degrees
vertical, while the tweeter delivers an even response to
20kHz. This combination results in a smoothness and clarity
that reduces "ear fatigue", even at high sound pressure
levels. The system is rated at 360 watts continuous program
input.
The rear panel provides ¼ inch phone jack inputs for full-
range, bi-amp, and tri-amp operation. All inputs have parallel
bridging jacks for chaining multiple speaker systems. The
mid and high frequency level controls are recessed and
located on the side of the enclosure, near the front for
convenient operation.
The wooden enclosure is sturdily constructed, and equipped
with large side-mounted handles for easy transport.
Interlocking protective corners allow stacking of multiple
speaker enclosures. The 480-SE is finished in an attractive,
scratch resistant gray polyester. A removable black jersey
grillecloth completes the high tech appearance of the
480-SE.
