Overview

The TOA HY-MT7 Matching Transformer Adapter is a specialized accessory designed to facilitate the integration of an optional MT-200 Matching Transformer with the TOA HX-7 Series Speaker System. Its primary function is to enable the HX-7 Series speakers to operate in high-impedance (100 V or 70 V line) audio systems, which typically require a matching transformer to convert the speaker's low impedance.

Function Description:

The HY-MT7 adapter serves as a mounting interface for the MT-200 Matching Transformer. The MT-200 itself is responsible for converting the speaker's low impedance output to a high impedance suitable for constant voltage distribution systems (100 V or 70 V lines). This conversion is crucial for long cable runs and connecting multiple speakers in commercial or public address systems without significant power loss or impedance mismatch. The adapter ensures a secure and proper physical attachment of the MT-200 to the HX-7 Series speaker module, maintaining the overall structural integrity and performance of the combined unit. When joining two speaker systems, a separate MT-200 Matching Transformer must be attached to each speaker system, with the mounting method remaining consistent.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Applicable Speaker: HX-7B, HX-7W, HX-7B-WP, HX-7W-WP (HX-7 Series Speaker System)
  • Finish: Stainless, black, semi-gloss, paint
  • Dimensions: 30 (w) x 70 (h) x 28 (d) mm (1.18" x 2.76" x 11.02")
  • Weight: 140 g (0.31 lb)
  • Included Accessories:
    • Hex head bolt M6 x 16 with spring and plain washers: 4
    • Plain washer for M8: 2
    • Nut for M8: 2
  • Tightening Torques:
    • Hex head bolt (supplied with MT-200) for mounting MT-200 to adapter: 8 N·m
    • Hex head bolt M6 x 16 (accessory) for mounting adapter to speaker module: 3 N·m

Usage Features:

The HY-MT7 adapter is designed for straightforward installation, though careful attention to detail is required for safety and optimal performance.

  • Mounting Flexibility: The adapter can be attached to any speaker module within the HX-7 Series system. However, users should be aware that certain combinations with other optional mounting brackets might make attachment difficult, in which case the adapter should be attached to any free speaker module.
  • Primary Connection Tap Adjustment: The MT-200's primary connection tap is factory-preset to 167 Ω. Users can change this setting as required by reconnecting the primary black cord according to a provided table, which offers tap options for 25 Ω, 50 Ω, 83 Ω, and 167 Ω, corresponding to different power ratings for 100 V and 70 V lines. It is explicitly stated not to touch the white cord connected to the COM tap.
  • Waterproofing Considerations: When installing speaker systems under eaves, they should be installed in a vertical array. To ensure the MT-200's waterproofing capability, its top panel surface must be tilted within 45° of the vertical plane. If this cannot be achieved with the standard mounting method, an alternative mounting orientation is provided to maintain waterproofing.
  • Cable Connection: After mounting, lines from the MT-200 must be connected to the speaker's rear-mounted connector. Users are advised to refer to the operating instructions of both the MT-200 and the HX-7 Series speaker for detailed cable connection procedures.
  • Cover Replacement: Once connections are made, the MT-200's cover should be replaced and secured with the two cover fixing screws. To ensure splash-proof capability, the cover must be pressed firmly onto the gasket.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes several safety and maintenance aspects to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the adapter and the overall speaker system.

  • Secure Fastening: All bolts and nuts must be tightened securely to the specified torques. Failure to do so can lead to the speaker or transformer falling, potentially causing personal injury. This includes ensuring all bolts are fully inserted and securely fastened.
  • Corrosion Prevention: Users are warned against installing the speaker in locations prone to corrosion, such as close to the seashore or in poorly ventilated indoor swimming facilities. Corrosion can compromise the adapter's integrity, leading to the matching transformer falling.
  • Periodic Inspection: The adapter should be checked periodically by the shop from where it was purchased. This helps identify and address any potential corrosion or damage that could lead to the matching transformer falling, preventing personal injury.
  • Use of Specified Components: The adapter must only be used in combination with the specified matching transformer (MT-200). Using other transformers may cause the adapter or transformer to fall off, resulting in personal injury.
  • Careful Handling: Users are advised to avoid touching the adapter's sharp metal edges to prevent injury during installation or handling.
  • Mounting Method Adherence: Only specified mounting methods should be used. Deviating from these methods can result in the adapter and matching transformer falling due to extreme force, potentially causing personal injuries.
