Why does my TOPMAQ DH163 not start after storage?
    • J
      Jessica MatthewsAug 17, 2025
If your TOPMAQ Engine doesn't start after storage, it might be due to bad fuel. If the engine was stored without treating or draining the gasoline, or if it was refueled with bad gasoline, drain the fuel tank and carburetor. Then, refuel with fresh gasoline.

      Summer WadeNov 10, 2025
If your TOPMAQ Engine won't start, there could be several reasons. First, check if the fuel valve is OFF and move the lever to the ON position. Also, ensure the choke is in the CLOSED position unless the engine is warm. Verify that the engine switch is in the ON position. Check if the engine oil level is low and fill it with the recommended oil to the proper level. Make sure you have fuel in the engine, and if the engine was stored for a long time, drain the old fuel and refuel with fresh gasoline. Finally, inspect the spark plug for faults, fouling, or improper gapping; gap or replace it if necessary. If the spark plug is wet with fuel, dry and reinstall it, then start the engine with the throttle lever in the MAX position. Also, check if the battery is discharged and recharge it, or if t...

Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a series of gasoline engines, covering models with displacements ranging from 163cc to 457cc. The manual provides essential information for safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these engines.

Function Description:

These are gasoline engines designed to power various equipment. The manual details the procedures for starting, stopping, and setting the engine speed, as well as critical safety precautions to ensure proper and safe operation. It covers both recoil starter and electric starter (optional) types, indicating their respective operational steps. The engines are designed to operate on unleaded gasoline, with specific octane ratings recommended for different regions.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides a detailed specification table for various engine models, including:

  • Displacement: Ranging from 163cc (DH163) to 457cc (DH457).
  • Bore: Varies from 68mm (2.68in) for 163cc/196cc models to 92mm (3.62in) for the 457cc model.
  • Stroke: Ranges from 45mm (1.77in) for the 163cc model to 68.8mm (2.71in) for the 457cc model.
  • Oil Capacity: 0.6L (0.165gal) for models up to 225cc, and 1L (0.26gal) or 1.1L (0.29gal) for larger models (270cc to 457cc).
  • Net Weight: Varies significantly with displacement, from 14/16 kg for the 163cc model to 32/34.5 kg for the 457cc model.
  • Spark Plug Gap: Consistent across all models at 0.6-0.8mm (0.024-0.031in).
  • Spark Plug Torque: 18-22N.m for all models.
  • Intake Valve Clearance: 0.08-0.12mm (0.003-0.005in) for all models.
  • Exhaust Valve Clearance: 0.13-0.17mm (0.005-0.007in) for all models.
  • Recommended Oil: 4-stroke automotive detergent oil meeting or exceeding API service classification SJ, SL, or equivalent. SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general use, with other viscosities suggested based on ambient temperature.
  • Idle Speed: Standard idle speed is 1,800±150 rpm.
  • Electrical System (for electric starter types): Includes a 12V battery, rectifier, charging coil, and starter motor. Wiring diagrams are provided for models with and without oil alert and electric starter.

Usage Features:

  • Pre-Operation Checks: Emphasizes the importance of checking fuel and oil levels, air filter condition, and overall engine integrity before each operation. This includes inspecting for leaks, damage, and ensuring all components are securely in place.
  • Starting Procedures: Detailed steps for both cold and warm engine starts, involving the fuel valve, choke lever, throttle lever, and engine switch. For recoil starters, it advises pulling the cord slowly until resistance is felt, then briskly, and returning it gently. For electric starters, it instructs to turn and hold the key in the START position for a maximum of 5 seconds to prevent motor overheating.
  • Stopping Procedures: Outlines normal shutdown by moving the throttle to MIN. and turning the engine switch to OFF, with an emergency stop option by simply turning the engine switch to OFF.
  • Fuel Recommendations: Specifies unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher (U.S.) or research octane rating of 91 or higher (Except U.S.). It warns against overfilling the fuel tank and emphasizes refueling in well-ventilated areas away from ignition sources.
  • Oil Alert System: Applicable types are equipped with an Oil Alert system that automatically stops the engine if the oil level falls below safe limits, preventing engine damage.
  • Carbon Monoxide Warning: Highlights the danger of carbon monoxide gas and advises operating the engine outdoors to prevent nausea, fainting, or death.
  • Hot Parts Warning: Cautions about extremely hot engine parts, especially the muffler, and the risk of severe thermal burns or fire from combustible debris. It recommends allowing the engine to cool before touching and keeping the muffler area clear of debris.
  • Rotating Parts Warning: Alerts users to the danger of rotating parts and advises operating equipment with guards in place, keeping hands and feet away, tying up long hair, and avoiding loose clothing.
  • Spark Arrester: Recommends installing and maintaining a spark arrester when using the equipment on forest, grass, or brush-covered land, as required by law in some regions.
  • Storage Guidelines: Provides comprehensive instructions for preparing the engine for storage, including cleaning, draining the fuel tank and carburetor (or using a fuel stabilizer), and adding oil to the cylinder to prevent rust. It also advises recharging batteries for electric starter types monthly during storage.
  • Transporting: Recommends allowing the engine to cool for at least 15 minutes before loading onto a transport vehicle and keeping the engine level to prevent fuel leakage.
