Do you have a question about the Toro Super Recycler 20053 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document serves as an addendum to the Operator's Manual for Toro Super Recycler® Lawn Mowers, specifically for Model Nos. 20053, 20054, and 20055, with serial numbers 250000001 and Up. It provides updated instructions for bagging clippings and outlines the Toro GTS®-5 Engine's Five-Year Full Warranty.

Function Description:

The primary function of this addendum is to guide users on the proper method for bagging grass and leaf clippings using their Toro Super Recycler® lawn mower. Bagging allows for the collection of cut grass and leaves, which can be beneficial for lawn aesthetics, preventing thatch buildup, or for composting purposes. The document also details the comprehensive warranty provided for the Toro GTS®-5 engines, ensuring reliable starting performance.

Usage Features:

Bagging Clippings:

The process of bagging clippings involves several key steps, designed for user safety and efficiency. Before initiating bagging, users are instructed to remove the side discharge chute if it is currently installed on the mower. Once removed, the side discharge door should be locked, preparing the mower for the bagging attachment.

The installation of the grass bag begins by raising and holding up the rear door of the mower. Following this, the rear discharge plug, which typically blocks the opening when not bagging, must be removed. This opens the pathway for clippings to enter the bag. An important safety feature is the routing of the starter rope: it must be guided around the lower rope guide. This ensures that the starter rope is properly positioned and accessible. The bag is then installed onto the door rod, securing it in place. Finally, the rear door is lowered, completing the installation and sealing the bagging system.

A critical safety warning is highlighted: the blade is sharp, and contact can result in serious personal injury. Therefore, users are explicitly instructed to stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop before leaving the operating position or performing any adjustments. This emphasizes the importance of safety during operation and maintenance.

Removing the grass bag is a straightforward process, requiring users to reverse the steps outlined for installation. This ensures that the bag can be easily detached for emptying or when switching to other mowing modes.

Toro Starting Guarantee (Five-Year Full Warranty on All Toro GTS®-5 Engines):

This warranty guarantees that the Toro Engine will start on the first or second pull for five years from the date of purchase, provided the routine maintenance requirements are met. If the engine fails to start as guaranteed, Toro will repair it free of charge, covering parts and labor, though transportation costs are the responsibility of the owner. This guarantee applies to Toro rotary mower and snow product engines.

To obtain warranty service, if a normal, able-bodied adult can no longer start the product's engine in one or two pulls, the owner should contact any Toro Authorized or Master Service Dealer. Dealers can be located via the Yellow Pages, Toro's website, or by calling dedicated customer service numbers. When seeking service, the product, maintenance records, and proof of purchase (sales receipt) must be presented to the Service Dealer. If dissatisfied with the service, customers can contact the Customer Care Department directly.

Maintenance Features:

Owner Responsibilities (Warranty):

To keep the warranty valid, owners are responsible for maintaining their Toro Engine according to the schedule detailed in the operator's manual. This includes recording all maintenance work in the provided maintenance chart and retaining proof of purchase. Routine maintenance, whether performed by a dealer or the owner, is at the owner's expense.

Items and Conditions Not Covered by Warranty:

The warranty does not cover repairs on products used commercially. Normal maintenance items such as spark plugs, air filters, fuel filters, and carburetor adjustments are also excluded. Oil changes and lubrication are not covered. Repairs or adjustments resulting from failure to follow proper maintenance procedures, blade or auger/paddle striking an object, contaminants in the fuel system, improper fuel or fuel mixture, failure to drain the fuel system prior to extended non-use (over three months), operation misuse, neglect, or accidents, or repairs attempted by unauthorized personnel are not covered.

Special operational conditions where starting may require more than two pulls are also excluded. These include first-time starts after extended non-use or seasonal storage, cool temperature starts (applicable to rotary products only), and improper starting procedures. Users are advised to consult their operator's manual to ensure correct starting procedures, potentially avoiding unnecessary service visits.

All warranty repairs must be performed by an Authorized Toro Service Dealer using Toro-approved replacement parts.

General Conditions (Warranty):

Repair by an Authorized Toro Service Dealer is the sole remedy under this warranty. Neither The Toro Company nor Toro Warranty Company is liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages related to the use of Toro Products, including the cost or expense of providing substitute equipment or service during periods of malfunction or non-use pending repairs. The warranty grants specific legal rights, and other rights may vary by state.

Guaranteed to Start Maintenance Record:

To maintain the starting guarantee, owners must perform maintenance according to the recommended schedule. A chart is provided to record maintenance activities, including:

  • Date
  • Hours Used
  • Air Cleaner Service (mowers only)
  • Change Oil (does not apply to two-cycle)
  • Lubricate Wheels (mowers only)
  • Check Spark Plug
  • Storage Preparation

This comprehensive approach ensures that users can effectively bag clippings while also understanding and fulfilling the requirements to maintain their engine's warranty, promoting long-term reliability and performance of their Toro Super Recycler® lawn mower.
