Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a Toshiba front-loading washing machine, covering models TW-BH85S2PH and TW-BH95S2PH. It provides comprehensive instructions for safe operation, installation, daily use, and maintenance of the appliance.

Function Description

The Toshiba front-loading washing machine is designed for household use, intended for washing textiles suitable for machine washing. It features various programs tailored for different fabric types and washing needs, including Cotton, Synthetics, Baby Care, Bedlinen, Mix, Color Alive, Drum Clean, Spin Only, Cotton Eco, Down Jacket, Sportswear, 15' Quick, Delicate, Wool, and Rinse & Spin. The machine offers options to adjust water temperature and spin speed, allowing for customized wash cycles. A "Delay End" function enables users to set a delayed start time for the wash cycle, ranging from 0 to 24 hours. The "Memory" function allows users to store frequently used programs and settings for convenience. For safety, a "Child Lock" feature prevents unintended operation by children. The machine is equipped with an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug to reduce the risk of electric shock.

Usage Features

Before First Use: Before washing clothes for the first time, it is recommended to operate the machine without clothes using the "DRUM CLEAN" program to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness.

Loading Laundry: Users should check garment labels and use non-foaming or less-foaming detergent suitable for machine washing. Before loading, items should be checked for foreign objects in pockets, tassels tied, and zippers/buttons fastened. Small items can be placed in a laundry net. Clothes that easily form fiber balls or have long strands of fiber should be turned inside out. It is important to segregate clothes by texture and material. To prevent severe unbalance and alarms, it is suggested to add one or two more pieces of clothing if washing a single item. Flammable or explosive substances like kerosene, gasoline, or alcohol should never be used as detergents or washed in the machine.

Detergent Dispenser: The detergent dispenser has compartments for main wash detergent and softener. The manual clarifies that this model does not have a pre-wash function, so no detergent should be added to the pre-wash compartment. For powder detergents that have clumped, it is advised to dilute them with water before pouring into the dispenser to prevent clogging and overflow. Users should select detergents appropriate for the chosen washing temperature to optimize washing effect and minimize water and energy consumption.

Control Panel: The control panel includes an On/Off button, Start/Pause button, program selector, and a display that shows settings, estimated remaining time, options, and status messages. Options such as temperature, spin speed, and delay can be selected. The display also indicates "Door Lock" and "Child Lock" status.

Delay Function: To use the Delay function, select a program, then press the "DELAY END" button to choose a start time delay (0-24 hours), and finally press "START/PAUSE." To cancel, press the "DELAY" button until "0H" is displayed before starting the program. If the program has already started, pressing "ON/OFF" will reset it.

Memory Function: To store a program, select the desired program and options, then press "TEMP." and "SPIN" simultaneously for 3 seconds. The default memory setting is "COTTON."

Child Lock: To activate the Child Lock, press "SPIN" and "DELAY" simultaneously for 3 seconds until the buzzer beeps. To deactivate, press the same two buttons for 3 seconds. The Child Lock locks all buttons except "ON/OFF" and is deactivated if the power supply is cut.

Temperature and Spin Speed: The "TEMP." button regulates water temperature (20°C, 30°C, 40°C, 60°C, 90°C). If all pilot lights are off, it indicates cold water (not heated). The "SPIN" button changes the spin speed. If spin speed pilot lights are off, the spin process will not be executed.

Muting the Buzzer: To mute the buzzer, press the "DELAY END" and "FAST WASH" buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. To reactivate, press them again for 3 seconds. Muting the buzzer will deactivate all other control panel sounds.

Safety Precautions: The glass door can become very hot during operation, so children and pets should be kept away. All packaging materials and transport bolts must be removed before use to prevent damage. The plug must be accessible after installation. The appliance is for indoor use only and should not be installed in bathrooms or very wet rooms, or areas with explosive gases. The washing machine with a single inlet valve should only be connected to a cold water supply. After a program is completed, wait two minutes before opening the door.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Cabinet: The washing machine's surface can be cleaned with diluted non-abrasive neutral detergents. Any water on surfaces should be wiped off immediately with a dry cloth. Sharp items should not be used. Formic acid, diluted solvents, alcohol, or other chemical products are forbidden.

Cleaning the Drum: Rust from metal articles inside the drum should be removed immediately with chlorine-free detergents. Steel wool should never be used. The "DRUM CLEAN" program, which uses 90°C high-temperature water, is specifically designed to sterilize the drum and tub. Clothes should not be in the drum during this procedure. Adding a proper amount of chlorine bleaching agent can enhance the cleaning effect.

Cleaning the Gasket and Glass: After each wash, the glass and gasket should be wiped to remove lint and stains, as lint buildup can cause leaks. Coins, buttons, and other objects should be removed from the gasket.

Cleaning the Inlet Filter: If the water flow pressure decreases, the inlet filter needs cleaning. This involves closing the tap, removing the water supply hose, cleaning the filter, and reconnecting the hose. For the filter in the washing machine itself, remove the inlet pipe from the back, pull out the filter with long-nose pliers, clean it with a brush, and reinstall.

Cleaning the Detergent Dispenser: To clean the dispenser, press down the arrow on the softener cover, lift the clip, remove the cover, and wash all grooves with water. The inside recesses can be cleaned with an old toothbrush. After cleaning, replace the softener cover and push the drawer back into position. Alcohol, solvents, or chemical products should not be used to clean the machine.

Cleaning the Drain Pump Filter: The drain pump filter collects lint and foreign matter. It should be cleaned periodically to ensure normal operation. Before cleaning, unplug the machine and allow hot water to cool down. Open the lower cover cap, turn the filter cap counter-clockwise to open, remove lint and foreign matter, then close the filter cap and lower cover cap. Ensure the filter cap and emergency drain hose are properly reinstalled and the filter cap is securely re-tightened to prevent water leakage. Do not remove the pump cover during a wash cycle if there is hot water in the pump.
