Overview

The TOTO Neorest Shower Tower TS991A is a sophisticated and feature-rich showering system designed for residential use, offering a blend of advanced functionality, safety, and ease of maintenance. This instruction manual provides comprehensive guidance for its safe and proper operation, adjustment, and care.

Function Description:

The Shower Tower TS991A integrates multiple showering components into a single, sleek unit, including an overhead showerhead, a hand shower, and body sprays. Users can select their preferred showering experience using intuitive push buttons located on the main body. The system allows for temperature control via a dedicated handle and flow rate adjustment through a volume control handle. It is designed to deliver a comfortable and customizable showering experience while incorporating important safety features to prevent scalding and ensure long-term reliability.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: TS991A
  • Water Supply Pressure:
    • Minimum required: 20 psi (0.14 MPa) (flowing)
    • Maximum (check local building codes): 125 psi (0.86 MPa) (static)
  • Supplied Water Temperature: Less than 185°F (85°C)
  • Water Quality: Must meet National/Primary drinking water regulations
  • Ambient Temperature: 34 - 104°F (2 - 40°C)
  • Water Supply Connection: 1/2" NPSM
  • Humidity: Maximum 90% RH
  • Flow Rate: Max. 2.5 gallons per minute (9.5 L/min)
  • Discharge Quantity (Individual Components):
    • Showerhead: 2.5 gpm (9.5 L/min)
    • Handshower: 2.5 gpm (9.5 L/min)
    • Each Bodyspray: 0.83 gpm (3.17 L/min)
  • Maximum Output Temperature (Safety Feature): Approximately 113°F (45°C) when correctly set, even if the temperature handle is fully set to the hot side.

Usage Features:

The Shower Tower TS991A is designed for user-friendly operation with a focus on safety and comfort.

  • Temperature Control: A dedicated temperature control handle allows users to set their desired water temperature. The factory setting is typically "104" (referring to 104°F or 40°C). For safety, the product is equipped with a function that prevents overly hot water from flowing, limiting the maximum temperature to approximately 113°F (45°C) when correctly set. It is recommended that the hot water supply temperature be less than 185°F (85°C) to prevent scalding. Before each use, users are advised to check the water temperature and keep the handle under "104" to avoid scalding. The temperature control handle should be turned slowly and gently.
  • Flow Rate Adjustment: A volume control handle allows users to increase or decrease the water flow rate. Turning it upward increases the flow, while turning it downward decreases it. It's important to note that this handle cannot be used to completely shut off the water flow.
  • Showering Modes: The system offers three distinct showering modes, each activated by a dedicated push button:
    • Overhead Shower: Activates the main showerhead.
    • Hand Shower: Activates the flexible hand shower.
    • Body Shower (Body Sprays): Activates the integrated body sprays.
    • Pressing a button once turns on the tempered water for that mode; pressing it again stops the water flow. Users are advised to press the buttons gently to avoid "water hammer," a phenomenon that can cause banging noises in pipes and potentially lead to pipe breakage or leakage.
  • Initial Setup/Calibration: Before first use, or if the outflow temperature is not as indicated, the valve needs calibration. This involves setting the hot water device temperature (recommended 68°F higher than desired outflow, with a maximum of 140°F), setting the shower tower's temperature handle to "104," turning the flow lever to the highest position, and checking the hand shower's outflow temperature. If the temperature is not 104°F (40°C), the temperature handle needs to be removed and adjusted until the actual outflow reaches 104°F.
  • Post-Use Recommendation: After using hot water, it is recommended to let cold water flow for a short time to clear any leftover hot water from the pipes, preventing potential scalding during the next use.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the Shower Tower's longevity and safe operation.

  • Filter Cleaning: The shower tower is equipped with filters on both the cold and hot water inlets to prevent dirt and debris from entering the system.
    • To clean the filters, users must first shut off the hot and cold check valves to prevent hot water expulsion and serious injury.
    • The lower right cover plate is removed by unscrewing three screws with a hexagon wrench.
    • An open/shut tool is used to shut off the check valves and then to slowly remove the caps and filters.
    • The filters should be cleaned with a brush to remove dirt and debris.
    • After cleaning, the filters are reinstalled, check valves are turned on, and the cover plates are reattached. It is critical to ensure the hot side filter is not hot before removal.
  • General Cleaning: The exterior of the shower tower should be cleaned with a damp, soft cloth for general maintenance. For dirt, a soft cloth with diluted dishwashing detergent can be used, followed by wiping with a wet cloth and drying. Users should be careful not to get the product wet and can press the push buttons to use cold/hot water during wiping.
  • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: To prevent scratching or damage to the surface, users should avoid acidic, bleaching, or alkali cleaning agents, solvents (thinner, benzene), abrasive cleaning powders, and nylon scrubbers or brushes.
  • Periodic Checking:
    • Leakage in Pipe Connection (Recommended twice a year): Users should regularly check for any leakage in the piping. Ignoring leaks can cause property damage or injuries. In case of leakage, check valves and the main valve should be shut off, and professional service requested.
    • Looseness in Main Body (Recommended twice a year): The main body of the shower tower should be checked for looseness. An unstable unit can cause leakage and property damage due to pipe strain. If loose, professional service is required.
    • Temperature Control Handle Operation (Recommended per month): The temperature control handle should be turned regularly. Prolonged disuse can lead to lime buildup on moving parts, causing malfunction. If it doesn't function normally, professional service should be sought.
  • Filter/Check Valve Replacement: For safety and comfort, the filter/check valves should be checked and replaced regularly. Malfunctioning valves can cause water to flow in reverse, leading to unexpected accidents like leakage. Replacement should be performed by a TOTO USA Dealer or technical support.
  • Long-Term Storage: If the Shower Tower is not used for a long period, the check valve or main valve should be shut off to prevent unexpected damage or leakage.
  • Freezing Prevention: In temperatures below freezing, proper care of piping and the product is essential to prevent damage and malfunction. If piping is frozen, components may be damaged or leak; heat insulation is recommended for the piping.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes several important safeguards:

  • Do not use hot water supply exceeding 185°F (85°C) to prevent scalding and property damage.
  • Do not disassemble or modify the product with external parts or by removing parts.
  • Do not allow children to use the product without adult supervision.
  • Do not touch the lower left bottom of the product or installation adapters on the hot water side with bare hands, as these areas can be very hot.
  • The shower bar is not a grab bar and should not be used to hang objects or support weight.
  • The cold water supply pressure must be higher than the hot water supply pressure for correct temperature adjustment.
  • Do not hit or impact the product with objects.
  • Do not use water over 140°F (60°C) for showering; 104°F (40°C) is recommended for safety.
  • Push buttons gently to avoid water hammer.
  • Ensure check valves are shut off when cleaning filters to prevent hot water expulsion.

The TOTO Neorest Shower Tower TS991A is a sophisticated and reliable product when used and maintained according to these guidelines, offering a luxurious and safe showering experience.
