Overview

This document provides a comprehensive user manual for the BLU Logic Handsfree Communication system, designed for use in Toyota vehicles. The system allows drivers to make and receive calls without physically handling their mobile phones, enhancing safety and convenience.

Function Description

The BLU Logic system is a hands-free phone solution that connects to your cell phone via Bluetooth, eliminating the need for a handheld device, headset, earpiece, or in-vehicle mounted adapter during calls. It supports various Bluetooth profiles, including Handsfree Profile (HFP), Headset Profile (HSP), Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), and Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP), enabling both hands-free calling and music streaming from compatible handsets.

The core function of the system is to facilitate hands-free communication. When a call comes in, the system pauses any ongoing music streaming and allows the user to answer the call with a simple button press. During a call, users can adjust the volume, mute the microphone, reject calls, redial the last number, and even initiate voice dialing if their mobile handset supports it. The system also allows for call interchange, enabling users to transfer a call between the BLU Logic system and their mobile handset.

Music streaming is another key feature. After a successful Bluetooth connection with an A2DP-enabled handset, users can stream music stored on their phone through the vehicle's front speakers. The system intelligently manages incoming calls during music streaming, pausing the music and resuming it after the call ends.

Usage Features

Quick Start and Pairing:

To begin using the BLU Logic system, the mobile handset must first be paired with the unit. The pairing process involves placing the handset within 3 feet (1 meter) of the dashboard, pressing and holding the "Answer Key" for 8 seconds until three short beeps are heard, which puts the system into pairing mode for 5 minutes. Users then activate their mobile handset's hands-free accessing function, select "BLU Logic XXXX" from the list of available devices, and enter the pre-programmed passkey "1234." A long beep confirms successful pairing, and the system enters standby mode. The system can pair up to 7 handsets.

Connection and Disconnection:

Once paired, the system automatically links with the handset when the vehicle ignition is turned on, indicated by a single beep. If it's the first connection or if the handset was not the last one connected, users may need to initiate connection or reconnection via their handset. Disconnection occurs automatically when the vehicle is powered off or if the phone moves out of the 30ft/10 meter sensing range. Users can also manually disconnect via their handset's menu.

Making and Answering Calls:

  • Answering a Call: A short press of the "Answer Key" accepts an incoming call.
  • Ending a Call: A short press of the "Answer Key" ends an ongoing call.
  • Rejecting a Call: Press and hold the "Answer Key" for 2 seconds until one beep is heard to reject a call.
  • Redial Last Number: In standby mode, press and hold the "Answer Key" for 2 seconds until one beep is heard to redial the last number.
  • Voice Dialing: If the mobile handset supports voice dialing, pressing the "Answer Key" in standby mode will activate the voice tag function. Users should ensure voice tags are recorded on their handset beforehand.
  • Call Interchange: During a conversation, pressing the "Answer Key" for 4 seconds (until two beeps are heard) transfers the call between the system and the handset.

In-Call Features:

  • Volume Adjustment: During a call, repeatedly pressing the "Up Key" or "Down Key" adjusts the volume to the desired level.
  • Mute/Un-mute: To mute the microphone, press and hold both the "Up Key" and "Down Key" simultaneously for 2 seconds until one beep is heard. To un-mute, repeat the same action.

Music Streaming:

After connecting an A2DP-enabled handset, users can activate their music streaming application on their phone to play music through the vehicle's front speakers. Incoming calls will automatically pause the music, which will resume after the call ends.

Sound Quality:

For optimal sound quality, it is recommended to keep all windows up, avoid high HVAC blower speeds, and minimize multiple passengers speaking simultaneously. Users should project their voice clearly towards the instrument panel. Factors like background noise, road conditions, vehicle speed, and wireless carrier/handset performance can affect sound quality.

Troubleshooting:

The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common issues such as difficulty finding the hands-free menu, pairing failures, and automatic connection problems. Solutions include checking handset settings, ensuring proximity, deleting paired devices, resetting the phone's software, and verifying compatibility.

Maintenance Features

The BLU Logic system is designed for minimal user maintenance.

  • No User-Serviceable Components: Users are explicitly advised not to attempt to disassemble the system, as it does not contain any user-serviceable parts.
  • Professional Installation/Removal: Any installation or removal of the system should only be performed by designated service centers.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes safety, reminding vehicle operators that they are solely responsible for safe vehicle operation while using the hands-free device. It warns against programming, adjusting, or setting up the BLU Logic unit while the vehicle is moving; the vehicle should be in park with the ignition in the "on" or "acc" position. It also cautions against operating the unit inside with the engine running to avoid carbon monoxide exposure and physical impact risks. Adherence to all local, state, and provincial laws regarding cellular device use while driving is mandatory.
