CONDITION ACTION
Engine runs hot or overheats: Check the coolant level in the
radiator when the engine is cold.
Check the radiator hoses and
drain plugs for leaks.
Remove the radiator cap when
the engine is cold; run the

With the engine off and the

warm. If one is cold, the
thermostat could be stuck in
the closed position. Refer to
the “How to Replace a

Radiator Hose Replacement Instructions

Remove Keys from Ignition

Ensure keys are removed before working on the vehicle for safety. Set parking brake, wear protection.

Disconnect Negative Battery Terminal

Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable to prevent electrical issues. Reset alarms/clocks afterwards.

Drain Coolant into Container

Slowly drain coolant into a container by removing the radiator cap and drain plug. Do not over-tighten.

Loosen Hose Clamp

Use a screwdriver or pliers to loosen the hose clamp and slide it back a few inches from the fitting.

Disconnect Hose from Fitting

Twist and pull the hose to remove it from the fitting. Be careful not to damage the flange.

Inspect Hose Fitting

Check the hose fitting for rough edges, burrs, or deformation before installing a new hose.

Install New Hose Clamps

Loosely install new hose clamps 3-4 inches from the ends of the new radiator hose.

Push Hose onto Fittings

Apply water/coolant inside the new hose and push it onto radiator and engine fittings securely.

Inspect Hose Installation

Verify the new hose routing is correct, not twisted, and clear of engine components.

Install Hose Clamps

Slide hose clamps over the fitting lip, about one inch from the hose end.

Tighten Hose Clamps

Tighten screw-type clamps until flush with the hose. Spring-type clamps require no tightening.

Fill Radiator with Coolant

Add coolant slowly to ensure proper filling and bleed air. Use 50-70% anti-freeze/water mix.

Reconnect Negative Battery Cable

Reconnect the negative battery terminal cable after completing the hose replacement.

Check Hose Connections for Leakage

Start the engine, let it reach operating temperature, and check for any fluid leaks at hose connections.
