Operating principles-mechanical
General
This section describes the mechanical operating princi-
ples of Screw compressor air-cooled chillers equipped
with microcomputer-based control systems.
- Unit Control Module (UCM-CLD)
- Unit-mounted panel
- Helical-rotary compressor
- Direct Expansion evaporator
- Air-cooled condenser
- Oil supply system (hydraulic and lubrication)
- Interconnecting piping
Refrigeration (cooling) cycle
Overview
The refrigeration cycle of the Screw compressor air-
cooled chiller is conceptually identical to that of the
Trane reciprocating air-cooled units. The major differ-
ence is that the Screw compressor unit uses helical
rotary compressors, an electronic expansion valve on
each circuit, an external oil cooling and filtration system,
and Trane’s exclusive Adaptive Control system.
The basic characteristics of the Screw compressor refrig-
eration cycle provide these units with distinct opera-
tional and reliability advantages over other types of units
in their size range.
