Usage Features

The G10189 espresso maker is designed for domestic and similar applications, such as staff kitchens in shops, offices, hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast environments. It is not intended for use with an external timer or remote-control system.

Assembly and First Use: Before first use, all removable parts must be cleaned. The water container (2) is mounted in its seat and filled with fresh, natural water up to the MAX level. The drip container (16) and cup grid (15) are then mounted. The machine should not be switched on until all parts are properly assembled.

Internal Circuit Cleaning: Upon first use, and if the machine has not been used for several days, internal circuits must be cleaned.

  • Coffee Circuit: Insert the plug, press the power button (7). Once the lights stop twinkling, indicating the machine is ready, mount the filter holder (21) in its seat (13) by aligning the symbols and rotating clockwise. Place a 250ml container on the grid (15) and press the 2 cups button (10) to dispense water. Repeat this operation.
  • Steam Erogation Circuit: Place a 250ml container under the steam erogator (5). Rotate the knob (3) anti-clockwise and let hot water come out for 30 seconds.

Making Coffee with Powder:

  1. Switch on the machine (7) and wait for it to heat up.
  2. Select the desired filter (18 for 1 cup, 19 for 2 cups) and insert it into the filter holder (21).
  3. Add ground coffee (1 scoop for 1 cup, 2 scoops for 2 cups) using the measuring cup with presser (17), pressing lightly.
  4. Mount the filter holder (21) into its seat (13), aligning the symbols and rotating clockwise.
  5. Place one or two coffee cups under the spouts (22).
  6. Press the 1 cup button (9) or 2 cups button (10) to start dispensing.
  7. Press the flashing button again to stop dispensing once the desired quantity is reached.
    • Warning: Do not remove the filter holder during operation. Wait 10 seconds after dispensing. Remove slowly to avoid splashing.

Making Coffee with Pods: The process is similar to ground coffee, but use the POD filter (20). Insert a coffee pod into the filter, ensuring it is well-centered and pushed down. Fold any external paper parts inwards.

  • Warning: Incorrect pod insertion can prevent the filter holder from tightening properly, potentially causing leaks.

Making Milk Foam for Coffee:

  1. Prepare coffee as desired.
  2. Fill a stainless steel jug with milk (one-third full).
  3. Press the steam button (11). The light will twinkle while heating, then stay on when ready.
  4. Caution: Risk of burning. Do not direct the steam jet towards yourself or others. Hold the steam tube (5) by the rubber part and the filter holder by the plastic handle. Do not touch metal parts.
  5. Direct the steam erogation tube (5) into an empty container, rotate the knob (3) anti-clockwise, and let some water out to clean the tube.
  6. Immerse the steam erogation tube (5) into the milk. Rotate the knob (3) anti-clockwise to start dispensing steam.
  7. Move the jug up and down to create foam.
  8. Once the desired foam is achieved, rotate the knob (3) to "0" and turn off the steam button (11).
  9. Clean the steam tube immediately after use with a damp cloth.

Dispense Hot Water: Switch on the machine (7). When the light is steady, rotate the knob (3) anti-clockwise to dispense hot water.

Stand-by, Auto-Off, Off Functions:

  • Stand-by: After 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine enters stand-by mode, keeping the water at the right temperature for quick coffee preparation.
  • Auto-Off: After 30 minutes in stand-by, the machine turns off automatically.
  • Off: Press the general switch button (7) to turn off the machine.

Water Hardness Adjustment: The machine's descaling operation frequency depends on water hardness. The default setting is "Medium." To adjust:

  1. Press the steam button (11) for 5 seconds.
  2. Press the "setup" function (9) and the lights of the 3 buttons will flash.
  3. Press button (9) to cycle through hardness settings:
    • (9) on: low hardness
    • (9) and (10) on: medium hardness
    • (9), (10) and (11) on: high hardness
  4. After a few seconds, the lights will flash, then press the "setup" button (9) to confirm.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Cleaning operations should always be performed after unplugging the unit.

  • General Cleaning: Clean the fixed parts of the housing (6) with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the main body in water. Avoid splashing water or other liquids.
  • Water Container (2): Periodically remove and wash with a soft sponge and dish detergent. Rinse and dry well.
  • Drip Grid (15) and Drip Container (16): These parts should be emptied and cleaned regularly, at least once a week, with a soft sponge and dish detergent. There is a float (14) to indicate when the drip container is full.
  • Filters (18, 19, 20) and Filter Holder (21): After each use, remove and clean the filters and filter holder to remove coffee residues. If the filter is blocked, remove it and clean it.
  • Steam Erogation Tube (5): Clean the steam tube only when cold. After each use, dispense steam for a few seconds to clear milk residues, then wipe with a damp cloth. At least once a month, disassemble the tube (5) by pulling it downwards, remove the silicone handle (4), clean the internal tube with a damp cloth, and wash both parts with a soft sponge and dish detergent before reassembling.

Decalcification: Decalcification is necessary when the three display lights are all steadily lit. Use a specific descaling product for coffee machines.

  1. Insert a filter into the filter holder (21) without coffee.
  2. Fill the water container (2) with water and descaler according to the product's instructions, up to the MAX level. Place a container under the steam erogator (5).
  3. Press the steam button (11) for 5 seconds.
  4. Turn the steam knob (3) to the "steam" position and press the steam button (11) again.
  5. Water will start coming out of the steam erogator (5).
  6. After 2 minutes, turn the steam knob (3) to OFF and move the container under the coffee spouts (22). Wait for the machine to finish the decalcification.
  7. Rinsing: Remove and wash the water container (2). Fill it with fresh potable water and reassemble.
  8. Place a 250ml container on the grid (15) and press the 2 cups button (10). Empty the container.
  9. Move the container under the steam erogator (5). Turn the knob (3) and let hot water flow out for 30 seconds. Empty the container.
    • Warning: The manufacturer is not responsible for damages caused by the use of non-compliant products.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a table of common problems, their causes, and solutions, such as:

  • 3 lights on steadily: Notification of decalcification (perform decalcification).
  • 3 lights flashing: NTC thermostat defect (contact assistance).
  • No steam is generated: Incorrect temperature (wait for steam light to stop flashing) or clogged steam nozzle (clean the nozzle, perform decalcification if needed).
  • Coffee flows around the edge of the filter holder: Too much ground coffee, poorly fixed filter holder, clogged filter holes, or misaligned filter holder (clean filter, adjust coffee quantity, ensure proper filter holder placement).
  • Coffee flows too slowly or not at all: Coffee too pressed, too fine, too much coffee, clogged filter holes, or clogged water outlet holes (reduce coffee, use coarser grind, clean filter, perform decalcification).
  • Water leakage at the bottom of the machine: Drip tray full (empty drip tray) or water tank not mounted well (ensure proper tank placement).
  • Loud and unusual noise: Empty water tank (fill water tank).
  • Steam cannot froth: Incorrect temperature (wait for steam light to stop flashing) or skimmed milk used (use whole milk).

Environmental Information: The appliance contains non-biodegradable and potentially toxic substances. It must be disposed of according to environmental regulations (WEEE Directive). Users should contact their local authorities for information on proper disposal centers.
