If the cutting head on your Troy-Bilt Trimmer won't advance the line, several issues could be at play. First, check if the cutting head is bound with grass and clean it if necessary. Ensure the cutting head isn't out of line by refilling it with a new line. Also, inspect the inner reel for binding and clean the inner reel and outer spool. If the cutting head is dirty, open it and remove any welded sections. Rewind the line if it's welded. If the line is twisted, stop the unit, push the bump knob, and pull the line until 4 inches (102 mm) extends outside the cutting head. Finally, ensure enough line is extended, and clean and thoroughly dry the cutting head.

      Kristina RodriguezSep 9, 2025
If your Troy-Bilt Trimmer engine won't accelerate, it could be due to several reasons. Old fuel (over 30 days) can cause this issue, so drain the fuel tank and add fresh fuel. Additionally, check if the cutting head is bound with grass; if so, stop the engine and clean it. A dirty air filter can also prevent acceleration, so clean or replace it as needed.
