Installation Steps

Step 1: Choose Location

Select a location for the solar vent unit, preferably with southern exposure for maximum sunlight.

Step 2: Mark Hole

Hammer a nail at the center and scribe a 14" or 19" circle onto the roof shingles for the hole.

Step 3: Cut Hole

Use a reciprocating saw to cut the marked diameter for the solar attic fan, avoiding framing members.

Step 4: Rafter Considerations

Ensure fan is installed between or over roof rafters, not through any framing members.

Step 5: Prepare Flashing

Cut four-inch slits in shingles and tar paper to allow flashing insertion under the shingles.

Step 6: Cut Shingles

Insert saw sideways to cut roofing nails around the flashing footprint to prevent sliding.

Step 7: Caulk Flashing

Apply two concentric rings of caulking material to the underside of the flashing.

Step 8: Install Flashing

Slide flashing under shingles and secure with screws at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 12:00 positions.

Step 9: Seal Screws

Caulk over exposed screw heads and seal areas where slits were made for weather protection.
