Overview

The TSUN Talent-MG2-WP/GP is a monitoring system designed for microinverter installations, acting as a crucial relay station between microinverters and a monitoring server. It facilitates data collection from microinverters and enables remote operation and maintenance through control commands from the server.

Function Description:

The Talent-MG2 monitoring device communicates with microinverters via 2.4G RF wireless technology to gather data and status information. It then connects to the internet, either through Wi-Fi (for Talent-MG2-WP) or GPRS (for Talent-MG2-GP), to exchange this information with the monitoring service. This allows for the transmission of microinverter running data and system status to the monitoring server, and conversely, receives control commands from the server to enable remote management.

The device also supports remote active power control, which is essential in countries requiring generating plants to cease or limit active power output to a regulating level. This is achieved via an RS485 port using the RTU Modbus protocol.

A DRM (Demand Response Mode) function is integrated, supporting various demand response modes (DRM0/5/6/7/8 when used with TSUN microinverters) by connecting an external control device with a standard RJ-45 connector. These modes dictate actions such as operating disconnection devices, not consuming power, limiting power consumption to a percentage of rated power, sourcing/sinking reactive power, not generating power, limiting power generation to a percentage of rated power, and increasing power generation.

Furthermore, the system includes a zero export control function to comply with local grid regulations that limit PV generated power export. This function offers three types:

  1. Zero Export: Limits exporting power to zero to prevent feedback to the grid.
  2. Export Limit: Limits exporting power within a specified value.
  3. Production and Consumption Monitoring: Provides high-accuracy measurement of PV generation.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The device comes with two antennas (Wi-Fi/GPRS and 2.4G) that screw into designated ports. For the Talent-MG2-GP, a SIM card needs to be inserted. A bracket is provided for wall mounting, requiring at least two M4 screws. The device can also be placed on a table.
  • Wi-Fi Configuration (Talent-MG2-WP only):
    1. Connect to the MG2-W wireless network via computer or mobile phone.
    2. Access the Wi-Fi configuration page by entering 10.10.100.254 in a browser (default username/password: 'admin').
    3. Configure Wi-Fi parameters, search for available networks, select the desired one, enter the password, and save. A restart is required for changes to take effect.
  • Website Configuration:
    1. Install the microinverter system and the monitoring device, ensuring they are operational.
    2. Establish an account on the monitor website (pro.solarmanpv.com or via tsun-ess.com).
    3. Network the monitoring system by logging into the platform, navigating to "Applications → Network," and adding the monitoring device's SN.
    4. Create a plant by going to "O&M → Plants," clicking 'Create a Plant,' and inputting basic, system, yield, and owner information.
    5. Edit the system layout by accessing "O&M → Plants → [plant name] → Layout" and dragging components to match the physical layout.
  • Zero Export Control Configuration:
    1. Confirm the export control type (Zero Export, Export Limit, or Production and Consumption Monitoring).
    2. Confirm the grid type (Single Phase 230V, Three Phase 230V/400V, Split Phase 120V/240V, or Three Phase 120V/208V).
    3. Confirm the CT/Meter range based on maximum load power or PV system generating power, choosing from CHINT DDSU666(60A), DTSU666(80A), or DTSU666(5A) with various CT capacities.
    4. Install the meter and CT, ensuring the CT arrow points towards the Grid.
    5. Connect the meter to the RS485 A and B ports of the monitor device. For RS485 cable lengths over 200m, a shorting jumper should be used on the first two RS485 ports.
    6. Set the zero export function on the monitor platform by navigating to "Applications → Zero-export Setting."
