Overview

This document describes the ULINE H-5784 Floor Safe, a security device designed for securing valuables.

Function Description:

The ULINE H-5784 is a floor-mounted safe intended to provide secure storage for personal items. It features an electronic lock mechanism, which can be operated using a user-defined security code. In case of forgotten or lost codes, a backup key is provided for emergency access. The safe is designed to be permanently installed into the floor, enhancing its security against theft. It is not suitable for storing electronic media, computer disks, audio-visual media, or photographic negatives, as these materials may be damaged by the internal temperature during a fire, despite the safe's fire rating. The handle of the safe should only be used for opening and closing the door and not for moving the safe itself.

Important Technical Specifications:

The safe requires one 9V alkaline battery for its electronic lock. The electronic keypad supports security codes ranging from 3 to 8 digits in length. The safe is designed to be mounted to the floor using lag screws and plastic anchors, with specific drill bit sizes recommended for installation (7/16" and 3/8" drill bits). The provided hardware includes two 70mm lag screws, two washers, and two 40mm plastic anchors. Tools required for installation include a drill, Phillips screwdriver, and a 17mm wrench. The safe's fire rating is compromised if the fasteners used for mounting do not completely fill the drilled holes in the insulation.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Setup: Upon first use, the battery must be installed in the front protective styrofoam. The safe is opened for the first time using a preset factory code (1-5-9-#). After entering the code, the handle must be turned clockwise within 5 seconds to open the door before the locking mechanism reactivates.
  • Changing Security Code: To change the security code, the user must open the safe, locate and press the small red button near the hinge on the inside of the door. A beep will sound, and a yellow light on the faceplate will activate, indicating that a new 3-8 digit code can be entered. The new code is confirmed by pressing the "*" symbol. It is crucial to test the new code with the door open to ensure it releases the handle before closing the safe.
  • Opening the Safe: To open the safe after the initial setup, the user enters their security code followed by the "#" symbol.
  • Locking the Safe: To lock the safe, the door must be closed, and the handle rotated counterclockwise until it stops. The locking mechanism will not engage if the handle is not fully turned. A minimum wait time of 6 seconds after entering a combination is recommended before locking, as the mechanism is deactivated for 3-6 seconds.
  • Keypad Sound Control: The keypad's "Beep" sound can be turned off by entering the code 6-3-3 and turned back on by entering 6-6.
  • Lockout Feature: If an incorrect security code is entered 3 times, the safe will enter a 20-second lockout period. An additional 3 incorrect entries will result in a 5-minute lockout.
  • Backup Key Access: In case the security code is forgotten, a backup key can be used. The cover of the electronic lock must be removed by pressing a tab and turning it. The key is then inserted into the keyhole and turned clockwise 1/4 turn to unlock the safe. The handle is then rotated to open the door. The key must be removed, and the cover screwed back in place before entering a new security code.
  • Location Selection: The safe should be mounted to the floor, ideally adjacent to a side wall with minimal space on either side, in an isolated, dry, and secure area. The safe must sit flat against the wall and floor, requiring removal of baseboards if necessary.
  • Securing the Safe: The safe must be secured to the floor. Pilot holes are drilled through the fire insulation in the floor of the safe at marked locations. These holes must be completely filled by the fasteners to maintain the fire rating. The appropriate diameter and depth of pilot holes in the floor will depend on the type of flooring and hardware used.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: When the battery is low, pressing a button on the keypad will illuminate a red light. To replace the battery, the cover of the electronic lock is removed by pressing a tab and turning it. When disconnecting or attaching the battery, the connecting cap should be held, and the wires should not be pulled to avoid disconnecting the power supply from the lock. After replacing the battery, the cover is screwed back in place.
  • Serial Number Record: Users are advised to record the safe's serial number, found on a tag on the back or front bottom corner of the safe, and keep it in a secure place away from children.
  • Key and Combination Storage: Backup keys and the security combination should be stored in a secure place, away from children, and never inside the safe itself. This document, which contains the combination, should also not be stored in the safe.
  • Safety Warning: The safe should be kept closed and locked at all times when not in use to prevent children from accidentally being locked inside. Children should not play with or around the safe.
