Overview

The UEi DTH1 is a digital hygrometer and thermometer designed for process control, offering precise measurements of both humidity and temperature. This instrument is composed of a handheld indicator and a separate probe connected by a cable, facilitating flexible and accurate readings in various environments.

Function Description:

The DTH1 measures relative humidity and temperature. The humidity sensor operates on a resistive principle, where its resistance changes in response to ambient humidity. This change in resistance is then electronically converted into a humidity reading using integrated components. The device displays the relative humidity, which is the relationship between the actual absolute humidity and the maximum absolute humidity possible at a given temperature. It's crucial to note that relative humidity is temperature-dependent, meaning temperature changes will affect humidity readings. Therefore, attention to temperature is necessary for accurate relative air humidity measurements. The device also measures temperature, providing a comprehensive environmental assessment. The response time for measurements is quicker in moving air due to reduced heat transfer between gases and solid-state materials.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Temperature: 41° to 113°F (5° to 45°C)
  • Measuring Range - Humidity: 20% to 90% RH
  • Measuring Range - Temperature: -30° to 200°F
  • Resolution: 0.1% RH & 0.1°F
  • System Accuracy: At 68°F, ±3% RH and ±1% of full scale
  • Display: 3 1/2 digit LCD with 0.5-inch numerals
  • Measuring Environment: Air
  • Power Supply: 9-volt battery
  • Battery Duration: Approximately 200 hours of continuous use
  • Dimensions - Probe: 0-13/16 x 7-5/16 inches
  • Dimensions - Instrument: 5-29/32 (H) x 2-5/16 (W) x 1-0 (D) inches
  • Cable Length: 79 inches (coiled cord)
  • Weight - Probe: 3.5 ounces
  • Weight - Instrument: 5.6 ounces

Usage Features:

The DTH1 is designed for ease of use with several convenient features:

  • Easy-to-Read Display: It features a 3 1/2 digit LCD display with 0.5-inch numerals, ensuring clear visibility of readings.
  • Function Switch: A three-position function switch on the left side of the instrument allows users to select between "HUM" for humidity measurement, "TEMP" for temperature measurement, and "OFF" to power down the instrument.
  • Removable Test Probe: The instrument includes a removable test probe that connects to a socket on the top right-hand side of the main unit. This design allows for flexible positioning of the sensor and easy replacement if needed. The connector should always be carefully inserted and secured with the lock washer.
  • Compact Size: Its compact design makes it portable and easy to handle during measurements.
  • Low Battery Indication: The display shows "LOBAT" in the upper left corner when the battery voltage is low, alerting the user to replace the battery.
  • Temperature Equilibrium Note: A critical aspect of humidity measurement is maintaining temperature equilibrium. Even slight temperature differences between the measurement point and the sensing element can introduce errors in the measurement results. Users should be mindful of this to ensure accurate readings.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of the DTH1:

  • Cleaning: The meter's case should be periodically cleaned with a damp cloth. It is crucial to avoid using abrasive or flammable liquids, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the finish, impair safety, or affect the reliability of the structural components.
  • Battery Replacement: When the "LOBAT" indicator appears, the 9-volt battery needs to be replaced. To do this, remove the battery compartment cover located on the back of the instrument.
  • Service and Repair: Any repair or service of the DTH1 should only be performed by qualified personnel. Improper repair can lead to physical degradation of the meter, compromise its protection against electrical shock, and cause personal injury to the operator. Users should only perform maintenance tasks they are qualified to handle.
  • Warranty: The DTH1 comes with a limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. This warranty ensures that if the instrument becomes inoperative due to such defects, it will be repaired or replaced at UEi's option. The warranty covers normal use but excludes damage from alteration, tampering, accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, or improper maintenance. Batteries and consequential damage resulting from failed batteries are also not covered. For warranty repairs, a purchase receipt or other proof of the original purchase date is required. Instruments out of warranty can be repaired for a service charge if repairable.
