Overview

The UNILINE QUANTUM MC is a test lane specifically designed for motorcycles, featuring a roller brake tester (RHB-3) and an optional speed tester (SPT-1), along with various control and accessory components. It is manufactured by UNIMETAL Sp. z o.o.

Function Description

The primary function of the UNILINE QUANTUM MC test lane is to assess the braking systems and speed indicators of 2-wheeled vehicles with a maximum axle load of 1 ton. The system operates by placing a vehicle's wheel onto rollers, which then rotate to simulate driving conditions. During a brake test, the system measures the braking force exerted by the wheel against the rotating rollers. For speed tests, it compares the vehicle's speedometer reading with measures taken by the test device.

The RHB-3 roller brake tester works by transmitting torque to the vehicle wheel, counteracting rolling resistance to maintain a required peripheral speed. When brakes are applied, the wheel exerts an opposite braking torque, which is measured by a strain gauge on the gear motor's measuring arm. This force is then displayed in kN on an Android device or computer. A built-in anti-slippage system automatically switches off the drive engine if the tire slips on the rollers.

The SPT-1 speed tester uses rollers with sensory elements and an induction sensor to measure speed in real-time. It includes a pneumatic lift mechanism to assist vehicles in driving out after the test.

The system is controlled via a central control unit (CJS), which handles communication, power supply, and signal processing. User interaction is facilitated through a wireless remote control, a computer keyboard, or an Android device running a dedicated application.

Optional equipment enhances the system's capabilities:

  • Weighing system: Consists of four strain gauge sensors that measure the axle load, displayed on the control screen.
  • Wheel clamps (KZ-MC): Designed to lock the non-tested wheel(s) during measurement, activating automatically when a brake test begins.
  • Effort meter (BMS-100): A wireless device for measuring the force applied to the brake pedal or lever. It communicates via 433 MHz radio band and is powered by R6 or Ni-MH batteries. The effort meter for the brake pedal attaches with an adjustable rubber strap, while the lever version slips onto the handlebar with a plastic tube.

Usage Features

The UNILINE QUANTUM MC system offers a user-friendly interface accessible through a remote control, keyboard, or Android device. The main menu allows selection of test types (e.g., service brake, parking brake, speed test) and axle numbers.

Brake System Test (Service Brake):

  1. Select "Service brake" and the axle number.
  2. Drive the motorcycle onto the roller module.
  3. If equipped with KZ-MC clamps, use arrows to close them around the wheel(s).
  4. Correct vehicle position if prompted; the system displays "Incorrect vehicle position" or "Position correct [ENTER]". Axle weight is displayed if a weighing system is present.
  5. Press ENTER to start. A "Start test on left" message may appear (universal for all roller devices).
  6. A warning beep sounds, and rollers start rotating, displaying "!ATTENTION Rollers Starting!".
  7. Rolling resistance is measured, with "Rolling Resistance Check" displayed. Do not brake during this phase.
  8. The system proceeds to the ovality test, displaying "Ovality test". Apply the service brake to keep braking force stable for 5 seconds.
  9. After ovality, the system prompts "Slowly Increase Braking Force". Gradually increase braking force. If an effort meter is used, its value is displayed. Axle load is shown if a weighing system is present.
  10. The test stops if an emergency stop is triggered, slippage occurs ("Slippage" message), the vehicle pulls out, maximum admissible brake pedal force is exceeded, maximum braking force on a wheel is exceeded, or test time limit is passed.
  11. Upon completion, "Test complete" is displayed with braking force values.
  12. If KZ-MC clamps are used, open them with arrows to exit the RHB-3.
  13. Proceed to test the next axle, either automatically or manually.

Speed Test (SPT-1):

  1. Navigate to "New Vehicle" and then use the down arrow to select "Speed Test".
  2. Drive the vehicle onto the device, trying to stay central to avoid drifting.
  3. Press ENTER to confirm and start the test. The platform lowers, and "Releasing blockade" is displayed.
  4. Maintain a steady speed (e.g., 40 km/h) within the green range. The system records values for 5 seconds, and a progress bar fills.
  5. Once completed, "Decrease speed to stop" is displayed. Stop the wheels. The platform lifts, and the user can leave.

Test Report:

  • A printer icon in the program options bar allows previewing and printing test reports.
  • Tests can be saved to the database by clicking "Save to database" after entering vehicle data.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines a comprehensive maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and accurate operation of the UNILINE QUANTUM MC.

Daily Maintenance:

  • RHB-3, SPT-1, KZ-MC: Clean the surface of each unit from sand, dust, mud, or water using a broomstick and cloth.

Weekly Maintenance:

  • RHB-3:
    • Tightening device covers: Use an Allen key No. 5 to check and tighten the 4 M8x16 screws on the cover and 20 screws on the frame perimeter.
    • Checking gearmotor for leaks: Unscrew the M8x16 screws (using Allen key No. 13), remove the cover, and inspect the area around the gearmotor for oil leaks.
    • Checking third roller tightening: Use a flat wrench No. 13 to check and tighten the screws (one on each side of each roller) if the third rollers are loose.
    • Checking third roller springs: Organoleptically inspect for cracks, damage, or detachment.
  • SPT-1:
    • Tightening device covers: Use an Allen key No. 5 to check and tighten the 4 M8x16 screws on the cover and 20 screws on the frame perimeter.
    • Checking for leaks in pneumatic system: Unscrew the M8x16 screws (using Allen key No. 13), remove the cover, and check pneumatic hoses and bellow cylinders for bends, wear, or cracks. Listen for air leaks.
  • KZ-MC:
    • Tightening device covers: Use a flat wrench No. 13 to check and tighten the screws (4 on each unit) if the covers are loose.
    • Checking rubber protection: Inspect for cracks, damage, or looseness. If rubbers are moving off the clamp surface, tighten with a socket wrench No. 13.

Monthly Maintenance:

  • SPT-1:
    • Check and tighten bearing fixing screws: Use a socket wrench No. 19 to check and tighten the two M12x40 fixing screws on each side of each roller if they are loose.

Every 3 Months Maintenance:

    • Check proximity sensor: Verify the gap between the sensor and third roller is 1-2mm using a feeler gauge.
    • Check chain tension: Press the chain halfway along its length; deflection should not exceed 15mm.
    • Check lever fixing and tightening of the strain gauge sensor: Use a wrench 13 to tighten the reaction lever to the strain gauge sensor and the reaction lever itself.
  • SPT-1:
    • Check bearings fixing: Use a spanner to check and tighten the bearings if necessary.
    • Check proximity sensor: Verify the gap between the sensor and third roller is 1-2mm using a feeler gauge.
    • Checking the lift platform position sensor: Verify the gap between the sensor and third roller is 1-2mm using a feeler gauge.
    • Conservation of the guidance mechanism: Clean the guide surface and apply a thin layer of new grease.

All detailed procedures for these maintenance tasks are described in the Service Manual. In case of unresolved issues after following troubleshooting steps, users are advised to contact UNIMETAL service.
