Overview

This document is a user manual and warranty for Urrea pneumatic angle grinders, models UP854 and UP857. It provides essential information for safe operation, maintenance, and technical specifications of the tools.

Function Description

The Urrea pneumatic angle grinders (Esmeriladora Angular Neumática / Air Angle Grinder) are designed for manual operation, primarily for grinding tasks. These tools utilize compressed air to power their rotating abrasive discs, making them suitable for various applications in workshops and industrial settings. The manual emphasizes the importance of proper handling and adherence to safety guidelines to ensure efficient and safe operation.

Important Technical Specifications

The manual provides a table of technical data for both models, UP854 and UP857:

Specification UP854 UP857
Wheel Diameter 4" (101.6 mm) 7" (177.8 mm)
Air Consumption 6 CFM 6 CFM
Recommended Air Pressure 70-90 PSI 70-90 PSI
Air Inlet 1/4" NPT 3/8" NPT
Hose Internal Diameter 3/8" NPT 1/2" NPT
No Load Speed 11,000 r/min 7,000 r/min
Shaft 3/8"-24 NF 5/8"-16 NF
Weight 1.8 kg (4 lb) 3.5 kg (7.7 lb)

Both models operate within a recommended air pressure range of 70-90 PSI and have an air consumption of 6 CFM. The key differences lie in the wheel diameter, air inlet size, hose internal diameter, no-load speed, shaft size, and weight, indicating that the UP857 is a larger and more powerful tool designed for heavier-duty applications compared to the UP854.

Usage Features

The manual outlines several key usage features and safety precautions:

General Safety Rules:

  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and free from clutter to prevent accidents. Avoid operating the tool in explosive atmospheres (flammable liquids, gases, or dust) as sparks can cause ignition. Keep children and bystanders away to prevent distractions and loss of control.
  • Personal Safety: Stay alert and use common sense. Do not operate the tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Dress properly by avoiding loose clothing, jewelry, and long hair, as these can get caught in moving parts. Ensure the switch is off before connecting to the air supply to prevent unintentional starting. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches before turning on the tool. Maintain proper footing and balance at all times.
  • Safety Equipment: Always use appropriate safety equipment, including a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, a hard hat (if applicable), ANSI-approved safety goggles for eye protection, and hearing protection to prevent hearing loss from prolonged exposure to high-intensity noise.
  • Electric Shock Risk: The tool is not provided with an insulated gripping surface. Contact with a "live" wire can energize exposed metal parts, leading to electric shock. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces and thoroughly investigate the workpiece for hidden wiring before starting work.

Tool Use and Care:

  • Securing Workpiece: Use clamps or other practical methods to secure the workpiece on a stable platform. Holding the workpiece by hand or against the body is unstable and can lead to loss of control.
  • Correct Tool for Application: Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for the specific application to ensure better and safer work at the designed rate.
  • Switch Functionality: Do not use the tool if the on/off switch is not functioning correctly. Any tool that cannot be controlled by its switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Air Source Disconnection: Disconnect the tool from the air source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing it. This prevents unintentional starting. Turn off and detach the air supply, safely discharge any residual air pressure, and release the trigger before leaving the work area.
  • Storage: Store the tool when idle, out of reach of children and untrained persons.
  • Damage Check: Before use, check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage, or any other condition affecting operation. Damaged tools must be serviced before use.

Prior to Operation:

  • The tool is designed for manual operation, requiring operators to stand on a solid floor with a secure position, firm grip, and footing.
  • Use a clean, lubricated air supply providing approximately 90 PSI when the tool is running with the lever fully depressed.
  • An easily accessible air shut-off valve is necessary.
  • It is strongly recommended to use an air filter, regulator, and lubricator (FRL) system to supply clean, lubricated air at the correct pressure. If supply pressure exceeds the tool's maximum, appropriate air pressure regulators must be used.
  • Important: Design the air supply line to ensure maximum operating pressure at the tool's air inlet. Daily drain condensation from the pipe, air filter, and compressor tank. Install a safety coupling (sliding valve) and use hose and coupling restraints to prevent whiplash if a hose fails or disconnects.
  • The tool can run at lower pressures but should never exceed 90 PSI to prevent exceeding the maximum RPM. Lower pressures will reduce performance.

Connection to an Air Source:

  • Never connect the tool to an air source exceeding the specified pressure to prevent bursting, abnormal operation, breakage, or serious injury. Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air within the rated pressure range. Always verify the air source adjustment before use.
  • Never use oxygen, carbon dioxide, combustible gases, or any bottled gas as an air source, as these can explode and cause serious injury.
  • Incorporate a filter, regulator with pressure gauge, oiler, in-line shutoff valve, and quick coupler for best service. An in-line shutoff ball valve is crucial for safety, controlling air supply even if the hose ruptures, and should be a ball valve for quick closure.

Maintenance Features

The manual highlights several aspects of tool maintenance:

General Maintenance:

  • Maintenance frequency should follow the provided illustration (though the illustration itself is not fully visible in the provided image, it indicates a schedule).
  • Poorly maintained tools can lead to accidents and a risk of bursting if damaged.

Parts and Maintenance:

  • Tool repair and maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel at an authorized service center.
  • When servicing, use only identical replacement parts and authorized components.
  • Use only lubricants supplied with the tool or specified by the manufacturer.

Lubrication:

  • The manual provides a diagram illustrating the components of a pneumatic system for proper tool operation, identifying:
    1. Air filter
    2. Regulator
    3. Lubricator
    4. Emergency shut-off valve
    5. Hose diameter
    6. Thread size
    7. Coupling
    8. Safety Air Fuse
    9. Oil
    10. Grease (During assembly)
  • If an FRL system is not used, the tool should be manually lubricated. Disconnect the airline, add 2-3 drops of suitable pneumatic motor lubricating oil into the hose end (inlet), reconnect to the air supply, and run the tool slowly for a few seconds to circulate the oil. Frequent users should lubricate daily, or whenever the tool starts to slow down or lose power.

End-of-Life:

  • When the tool reaches the end of its useful life, it is recommended to disassemble it, degrease it, and separate parts by material for recycling.

Warranty:

  • Urrea Herramientas Profesionales S.A. de C.V. provides a 1-year warranty on parts, components, and labor against manufacturing defects from the purchase date.
  • To claim warranty, the product must be presented with the properly filled and signed warranty policy to an authorized distributor or service center.
  • Urrea will cover transportation costs related to the warranty.
  • The warranty is not applicable if the product has been used under abnormal conditions, shows natural wear, has not been operated according to the user manual, or has been altered or repaired by unauthorized personnel.
