Overview

This document describes a wireless LED light system, the TL-RX, and its accompanying transmitter, the TL-TX PLL. The system is designed for use as vehicle lights, offering a portable and flexible solution for various applications.

Function Description:

The TL-RX LED lights function as a portable lighting system, primarily for vehicles, capable of displaying tail lights, direction indicators, and stop lights. They operate wirelessly, receiving commands from the TL-TX PLL transmitter. The system is designed to be compliant with UNECE regulations, ensuring its suitability for road use. A key feature is its ability to automatically change channels to avoid RF disturbances, enhancing reliability. The lights are equipped with a NiMH battery pack, allowing for cordless operation.

The TL-TX PLL transmitter is responsible for sending control signals to the TL-RX lights. It connects to the towing vehicle's electrical system (either 12V or 24V, depending on the version) via a cigar lighter socket or a standard 230Vac outlet, drawing power and receiving lighting commands (e.g., for turn signals, brake lights, and tail lights). The transmitter then modulates these commands into GFSK radio signals, which are sent to the TL-RX lights.

Important Technical Specifications:

TL-RX LED Lights (Receiver):

  • Receiver Type: Category 2 GFSK PLL receiver in SMT technology.
  • Compliance: EN 300 220 European standard.
  • Operating Channels: 2 channels, allowing for automatic channel change to avoid RF disturbances.
  • Operating Frequencies: 869.450MHz or 869.950MHz (automatically determined).
  • Sensitivity: -98dBm with ±16kHz deviation.
  • Power Supply: Integral battery pack, 10x1.2V NiMH.
  • Average Battery Life: 8-9 hours.
  • Working Temperature Range: -20 °C to +70 °C.
  • Installation: Magnetic base or pump suction cup with tilt support.
  • Protection: Electronic boards protected by polyurethane resin.

TL-TX PLL Transmitter:

  • Versions: Available for 12V or 24V vehicle systems.
  • Modulation: GFSK.
  • Transmission Stability: High.
  • Connector Types: ISO1185 and ISO1724 connections available.
  • Transmission Indication: LED indicator for ongoing transmission.
  • Protection: Polyurethane resin potted electronic board.
  • Compliance: EN 300 220 European standard.
  • Working Frequency: 869.450MHz or 869.950MHz (automatically determined).
  • Transmitter Power: EIRP ≤ 5mW.
  • Power Supply Range: MIN 9V - MAX 30V.
  • Average Consumption:
    • Operational transmitter at 12V: 20mA.
    • Operational transmitter at 24V: 28mA.

Usage Features:

TL-RX LED Lights:

  • Prior Operations: Before initial use, the lights' battery must be fully charged. The NiMH battery pack does not have a memory effect, so it's not necessary to fully discharge it before recharging.
  • Charging: Two charging cables are provided: one for a vehicle's cigar lighter socket (12V/24V) and one for a standard 230Vac outlet. The charging process involves connecting the cable to the magnetic connector on the left light. The left tail light illuminates during charging and turns off when charging is complete (approximately 6 hours). It is recommended to limit charging to 24 hours to extend battery life.
  • Installation: The lights feature a rubber-padded magnetic base or a suction cup for installation. For optimal performance, a plain and clean surface is recommended, especially for the suction cup version. Each light includes a tilt bracket for directional control and better visibility.
  • Operating Modes:
    • RADIO Mode: The lights repeat commands received from the paired transmitter (tail lights, direction indicators, stop lights). After 30 minutes of inactivity, the receiver enters a battery-save mode. After 4 hours of inactivity, it enters a sleep mode with negligible battery drain, requiring a power cycle (OFF then ON) to resume normal operation.
    • ON Mode: Only the tail lights are ON, and the radio link is ignored. This mode allows the transmitter to remain connected to the towing vehicle without actively controlling the lights.
  • Battery Indicator: The left tail light blinks briefly every 4 seconds after the lamp test if the battery is low, indicating a need for recharging.
  • Pairing Indicator: If the right tail light blinks continuously (2 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF) after the lamp test, it indicates no paired transmitter in memory, and only ON mode is available.
  • ACQ Pushbutton: Used for transmitter pairing and clearing memory.
  • Malfunction Troubleshooting:
    • No lamp test: Battery is completely discharged; recharge.
    • Left tail light blinks every 4 seconds: Battery is very low; recharge.
    • Radio commands not repeated: No paired transmitter; pair one. Verify switch is in RADIO position. Keep vehicle tail lights ON to allow channel change if radio disturbance is present.
    • Right tail light blinking 2 seconds ON, 2 seconds OFF: Pairing memory is empty; pair a transmitter.
    • Short distance control: Transmitted signals are unstable; ensure transmitter is not surrounded by metallic structures.
  • Important Note: Always switch OFF the set when not in use to preserve battery life.

TL-TX PLL Transmitter:

  • Activation: To activate the transmitter, plug it into the designated socket at the rear of the towing vehicle. It draws power from the lighting control voltage at the socket pins.
  • Operation: Once plugged in, it is operational and transmits signals (STOP, TAIL, and DIRECTION INDICATORS) whenever it receives a corresponding signal from the vehicle.
  • Transmission Indicator: A blinking blue LED on the back of the transmitter indicates ongoing transmission.
  • Connection Details: The manual provides diagrams for both 12V and 24V models, detailing the functions of each pin in the connector (e.g., LEFT direction indicator, ANTI-FOG light, GND connection, RIGHT direction indicator, RIGHT tail light, STOP lights, LEFT tail light, LEFT blinker, trailer brake control). It is recommended to check the correspondence of all poles on the vehicle.

Maintenance Features:

TL-RX LED Lights:

  • Battery Replacement: The battery pack can be replaced if its life becomes too short. The process involves:
    1. Disconnecting the cable (and charging cable if connected).
    2. Opening the left light to access the battery pack.
    3. Disconnecting all connectors inside the left light.
    4. Unhooking cable ties and removing the old battery pack.
    5. Inserting the new battery pack.
    6. Re-attaching cable ties.
    7. Reconnecting the battery charger unit and all connectors, paying attention to battery pack connection polarity.
  • Battery Disposal: The battery pack must be properly disposed of and processed according to local regulations.

General Maintenance:

  • CE Marking: The product complies with Directive 2014/53/EU. Non-compliance can result from incorrect electrical supply, improper installation/use, or unauthorized replacement of components.
  • Warranty: A one-year warranty from the date of purchase covers free replacement or repair of components due to manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage from negligence, improper use, incorrect installation/maintenance, unauthorized repairs, or transport without precautions. VA.RE.L is not responsible for indirect damages. Repairs are carried out at VA.RE.L's headquarters, with transport costs borne by the buyer. Device replacement or warranty extension after repair is not possible.
  • Disposal: As per EU Directive 2011/65/EU, the device must be disposed of separately from general waste at the end of its life and processed according to local regulations.
