Description
The differential pressure transmitters of the 984M series are
used for measuring differential pressure, positive pressure
and vacuum.
Selection of output signal
The output signal of the 3-wire version is configurable. The
factory setting is for a 0-10 Volt output signal, but this can be
changed to 4-20 mA by removing the jumper. The 2-wire
version is only available with a 4-20 mA output signal.
Selection of pressure range
To adapt best for the application the transmitter can be
selected between two adjoining pressure ranges. Factory
setting is for the most sensitve range, by opening of a
jumpered bridge the less sensitive range is activated.
Selection of response time
The response time of the output signal can be selected by a
jumpered bridge. Factory setting is for a slow response time
(1 s), which dampens short pressure peaks. To work with a
fast response time (100ms) this bridge needs to be replaced.
Easy offset calibration
The output signal can be calibrated to zero by pressing the
M key (pressure transmitter must be depressurised).
Switching output (only for the 3-wire version)
As well as an analogue output signal, the differential pressure
transmitter contains an adjustable transistor switching output
with a maximum switching capacity of 35 Vdc/100 mA.
Measuring method
Piezoresistive pressure transducer
Mounting position
They can be mounted in any position. Due to the
selfcompensating piezoresistive pressure transducer any
possible mounting error is eliminated.

Overview

The VCP 984M series of Air Differential Pressure Transmitters are designed for measuring differential, positive, and vacuum pressures. These devices offer a range of features and specifications suitable for various ventilation control applications.

Function Description:

The 984M series transmitters convert differential pressure into an analog output signal, either 0-10 Vdc or 4-20 mA. This output can be configured via jumpers, with the 3-wire version offering both output types and the 2-wire version exclusively providing 4-20 mA. The devices are equipped with two adjoining pressure ranges, selectable via a jumper, allowing for adaptation to specific application requirements. The factory setting defaults to the most sensitive range, with the less sensitive range activated by opening a jumpered bridge. An optional red LED display (3.5 digits) is available on the 3-wire version (984M.3x3314) for direct pressure readings. The response time of the output signal can also be selected via a jumpered bridge, offering either a slow response time (1 second) to dampen short pressure peaks or a fast response time (100 milliseconds) for quicker measurements.

For the 3-wire version, an adjustable transistor switching output is included, capable of handling a maximum switching capacity of 35 Vdc/100 mA. This allows the device to provide both an analog output and a switching signal based on a defined pressure level. The measuring method employed is a piezoresistive pressure transducer, which ensures accurate and reliable measurements. The self-compensating nature of this transducer eliminates potential errors due to mounting position, allowing the device to be mounted in any orientation.

Usage Features:

The 984M series is designed for ease of use and flexibility. The selectable output signal (0-10 Vdc or 4-20 mA) and pressure ranges allow for precise adaptation to various control systems and measurement requirements. The ability to choose between a fast or slow response time helps in either capturing rapid pressure changes or filtering out transient peaks for more stable readings. The optional LED display provides immediate visual feedback of the measured pressure, enhancing usability in applications where direct monitoring is required. The devices are supplied with a duct fixing kit, including two plastic tubes with integrated mounting plates, two meters of PVC hose, and four screws, facilitating straightforward installation. It is crucial to ensure that hoses are not bent or damaged and that connections are airtight to prevent measurement errors and device damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Easy Offset Calibration: The output signal can be calibrated to zero by simply pressing the "M" key while the pressure transmitter is depressurized. This feature allows for quick and accurate recalibration in the field, compensating for any zero-point deviation. For models with an LED display, the calibration process involves disconnecting the unit from pressure, pressing "M" for 5 seconds, and then confirming the offset.
  • Setting Switching Output (3-wire version only): Users can define a specific pressure level at which the switching output will activate. This is done by applying the desired pressure, then pressing the "S" button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes quickly, indicating that the value has been saved. The LED will then light up when the defined pressure is reached or exceeded.
  • Error Messages (LED display versions): The LED display can show error messages such as "Er. SE" for sensor defect and "Er. Li" for measurement exceeding limits, aiding in troubleshooting.
  • Peak Value Display (LED display versions): The display can show the highest and lowest peak values ever recorded by the sensor. Resetting these peak values can only be done by the manufacturer.

The 984M series offers a robust and versatile solution for differential pressure measurement in ventilation control applications, combining essential technical specifications with user-friendly features for installation, operation, and maintenance.
