Overview

This document serves as an installation and user manual for the VELAIR Self-Contained Air Conditioning System, specifically the Compact 7SC 230V-50Hz and Compact 7SC 110V-60Hz models. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for proper installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.

Function Description:

The VELAIR Self-Contained Air Conditioning System is designed to provide thermal comfort in marine environments, offering both cooling and heating functionalities. It operates by drawing ambient air through an air-gas exchanger equipped with aluminum fins, separating condensate water from humidity, and distributing conditioned air through ducts. The system utilizes a self-contained heat exchanger unit and requires a seawater electric-pump for water circulation in the heat exchanger. Control of the unit is managed via a remote controller or a Velair touch control panel, allowing users to select operating modes, adjust set point temperatures, and control fan speeds. The system is designed for efficient air flow and includes features to prevent common issues like pump unpriming and refrigerant leaks.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: Compact 7SC 230V-50Hz and Compact 7SC 110V-60Hz.
  • Capacity: Up to 7,000 BTU/h for the Compact 7SC 115V-60Hz model.
  • Refrigerant: R-410A (a fluorinated greenhouse gas with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) = 1975).
  • Electrical Supply: 230 VAC/1ph/50-60 Hz (for 230V model) or 115 VAC/1ph/50-60 Hz (for 110V model).
  • Seawater Pump Fuse: 5A.
  • Connecting Pipes Diameter: Minimum nominal diameter of 1/2".
  • Ducts Diameters: 100 mm for models up to 7,000 BTU/h.
  • Room Thermostat Cable Length: 6 meters (supplied with the unit).
  • Electrical Box Cord Length: 700 mm for flexible installation.
  • Operating Temperature Range (Cooling): 15°C < sea water temperature < 40°C.
  • Operating Temperature Range (Heating): 5°C < sea water temperature < 20°C.
  • Temperature Adjustment Range: 16 to 31°C in 0.5°C intervals.
  • Room Temperature Probe Regulation Offset: Adjustable from -9 to +12 K in 0.1 K intervals.
  • Compliance: European Directives for Low Voltage (2014/35/EU) and Electro-magnetic compatibility (2014/30/EU).
  • Quality System Certification: ISO 9001:2015 (DNV GL).

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel: Velair touch control panel with a room temperature probe for precise control.
  • Operating Modes: On/Off, cooling, heating, and various fan speed settings (min, med, max, auto).
  • Set Point Temperature: Adjustable via +/- keys on the control panel.
  • Display: Shows set point temperature, real room temperature, and various status/alarm symbols.
  • Automatic Operation: Fan speed adjusts automatically based on the difference between actual and set room temperature using a PI-type algorithm.
  • Fan Speed Control: Manual selection for minimum, medium, and maximum ventilation speeds.
  • Stand-By Mode: Unit can be put into stand-by, with anti-freezing ensured by the controller.
  • Key Lock: Prevents accidental changes to settings.
  • Display Brightness: Reduces automatically after 20 seconds of inactivity for night-time comfort; can be switched off completely.
  • Remote Activation: Digital input (CP contact) for remote compressor activation, allowing the unit to be managed via thermostat display or remote control when closed.
  • Memory Function: Settings are retained even if the appliance is switched off or power supply is cut.

Maintenance Features:

  • Installation Accessibility: The appliance must be installed in a protected area, with accessibility for maintenance requiring the removal of protection by a tool.
  • Seawater Filter: Required between the seawater intake and electric-pump to protect against foreign matter. Failure to install voids pump and unit warranty.
  • Hydraulic Connections: Each connection should have a shut-off valve for easier maintenance or repair.
  • Air Filter: Must be located upstream of the air-gas exchanger and easily reachable for cleaning or replacement to protect against dust.
  • Condensate Drain: Condensate water must be discharged into the bilge or a special tank. A trap is recommended to prevent unpleasant smells from entering the cabin.
  • Winterization: During cold periods, if the unit is not in use, all hydraulic circuits and the seawater condenser must be drained to prevent freezing.
  • Troubleshooting: The electrical box features a two-digit panel that displays alarm codes (E1-E7 for sensor/blower/communication faults, LP for low pressure, HP for high pressure, LT for low evaporator temperature) to assist in diagnosing issues.
  • Regular Maintenance: Owners are responsible for operating the equipment according to instructions, performing regular maintenance, keeping the unit clean and free of dirt, and ensuring the condenser coil and air filter are clean.
  • Authorized Service: Installation and maintenance must be carried out by authorized and qualified personnel. For alarms E1-E7, if the issue persists after a reset, an authorized Uflex - VELAIR Service Center should be contacted.
  • Warranty: A two-year limited warranty covers defects in material or workmanship under normal use, administered through Uflex Authorized Dealers/Service. The warranty is voided by improper installation, misuse, lack of maintenance, or unauthorized repairs.
