VENUE Tag – Quick Start Guide

1. Charging
The VENUE Tag can be charged in two ways:
- Put the VENUE Tag in the charging cradle.
- Plug the USB charging cable to the USB port of the VENUE Tag.
Note:
- When the tag is in charging mode, the LEDs will ash yellow at 0.5Hz (1 second on and 1 second o).
- VENUE Tag will get turned on automacally with any of the above two charging methods.
2. Turning on the VENUE Tag
- Put the VENUE Tag in the charging cradle or plug the USB charging cable to
the USB port of the VENUE Tag to turn it on.
- Alternavely, press and hold the recessed power buon to turn it on.
Note:
- When VENUE Tag is turned on, if Wi-Fi has not been congured, the LEDs will
ash yellow with a periodic paern of 2 long-period ashes followed by 2
short-period ashes.
3. Connecng the VENUE Tag to Wi-Fi
1. Connect to the VENUE Tag’s Wi-Fi hotspot using an Android device
2. The hotspot SSID name will be: VenueTag-xxxx
3. Open the VENUE Android Wi-Fi conguraon app
4. Enter the Wi-Fi AP SSID/password and click “Conrm”
o The VENUE Tag will get the Wi-Fi AP info, congure itself, reboot
and try to connect to the Wi-Fi AP congured.
4. OTA (Over-The-Air) Update
The VENUE Tag has the ability to update its FW through OTA (Over-The-Air) update.
When it is being charged
in the charging cradle or through the USB port, the VENUE
Tag will check if any newer version of the soware is available. If new soware is available, it will automacally
download and update itself.
Note:
- When the VENUE Tag in the charging state, the LEDs will ash yellow at 0.5Hz (1 second on and 1 second o).
When the soware is being updated, the LEDs will ash blue at 1Hz (0.5 second on and 0.5 second o) unl
the process is done.

Overview

The VENUE Tag is a compact, portable device designed for indoor use, offering a range of features for session management, device status monitoring, and connectivity. Its design emphasizes ease of use and durability, with a focus on reliable operation in various indoor environments.

Function Description

The primary function of the VENUE Tag is to facilitate session management, initiated by scanning an NFC tag. It provides visual feedback on its status through an integrated LED/bumper system, which also offers extra drop protection. The device supports wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi for configuration and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, ensuring it remains current with the latest features and improvements. Power management is flexible, allowing for charging via a dedicated cradle or a standard USB cable.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: Approximately 75mm (length) x 17mm (width) x 17mm (thickness) for the main body, with a total length of 121mm including the belt clip.
  • Connectivity:
    • NFC: For initiating sessions by scanning NFC tags.
    • Wi-Fi: For configuration and OTA updates. Supports connection to a Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) with user-configurable SSID and password.
    • USB: For charging the device.
  • Power:
    • Charging Methods: Charging cradle or USB cable.
    • Battery Status Indication: LEDs flash yellow at 0.5Hz (1 second on, 1 second off) during charging.
  • Indicators:
    • Status LED/Bumpers: Displays different colors to monitor device status.

Usage Features

  • Session Initiation: A session is started by pressing the NFC button and scanning an NFC tag.
  • Power On/Off: The device can be powered on by connecting it to a charging cradle or USB cable, or by pressing and holding the recessed power button.
  • Wi-Fi Configuration:
    1. Connect an Android device to the VENUE Tag's Wi-Fi hotspot (SSID: VenueTag-xxxx).
    2. Open the VENUE Android Wi-Fi configuration app.
    3. Enter the desired Wi-Fi AP SSID and password, then click "Confirm."
    4. The VENUE Tag will then configure itself, reboot, and attempt to connect to the specified Wi-Fi AP.
  • Status Monitoring: The Status LED/Bumpers provide visual cues about the device's operational status, including charging, software updates, and Wi-Fi configuration needs.
  • Portability: The removable belt clip allows for easy attachment and carrying.

Maintenance Features

  • Charging: The VENUE Tag can be charged using its dedicated charging cradle or by plugging a USB charging cable into its USB port. The LEDs will flash yellow at 0.5Hz during charging.
  • Over-The-Air (OTA) Updates: The device supports firmware updates wirelessly. When connected to a charger (either cradle or USB), the VENUE Tag automatically checks for newer software versions. If available, it downloads and updates itself. During a software update, the LEDs will flash blue at 1Hz until the process is complete.
  • Durability: The Status LED/Bumpers are designed to provide extra drop protection, enhancing the device's robustness for daily use.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • FCC Compliance: The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules for Class B digital devices, ensuring it does not cause harmful interference and accepts any interference received. It is restricted to indoor use only.
    • Radiation Exposure: Complies with US portable RF exposure limits for uncontrolled environments. It is recommended to keep the product as far as possible from the user's body or set to lower output power if available. Minimum distance of 5mm between the radiator and the body is required.
    • Industry Canada Compliance: Complies with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada's licence-exempt RSS(s), ensuring it does not cause interference and accepts any interference.
    • Wi-Fi Band Restriction (Canada): For operation in the 5150-5250 MHz band, the device is for indoor use only to reduce potential for harmful interference to co-channel mobile satellite systems.
    • Déclaration d'exposition aux radiations (Canada): Complies with Canada portable RF exposure limits. Minimum distance of 5mm between the radiator and the body is required.
