Overview

This document describes the 7PC Counter Height Fire Dining Set (Item/Art. 2127099, Model # FG-VGO7FHDS), an outdoor decorative gas appliance designed for domestic use. It functions as a fire pit dining set, providing both a dining surface and a heat source.

Function Description

The core function of this device is to provide an outdoor dining experience combined with the ambiance and warmth of a fire pit. It uses either liquid propane (LP) gas or natural gas as fuel. The set includes a table with an integrated burner pan, a burner cover, and six chairs with seat cushions. The fire pit feature allows for the placement of glass beads or lava rock around the burner, creating a decorative flame display. A control panel with an ignitor module allows for easy lighting and adjustment of the flame. The device is designed for outdoor use only and is not intended for commercial or indoor use.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Certification: CSA certified to ANS Z21.97 CSA 2.41-2017, Outdoor Decorative Gas Appliances.
  • Fuel Type: Liquid Propane (LP) Gas or Natural Gas. The appliance ships configured for LP gas but can be converted to natural gas using a conversion kit (included in the package, but conversion must be performed by a qualified service agency).
  • Rated Heat Input: 50,000 BTU/hr (14.65 kW).
  • Propane Regulator Pressure: 11 inches water column.
  • Natural Gas Inlet Pressure: 7 inches water column.
  • Clearance to Combustible Surfaces:
    • Sides: 24 inches (610mm)
    • Top: 72 inches (1829mm)
  • LP Gas Cylinder: Requires a self-contained 20 lbs LP-gas cylinder (approximately 18 inches height, 12 inches tank body diameter, 8 inches base diameter). The cylinder must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Specifications for LP-Gas Cylinders or CAN/CSA-B339. It must have a listed overfilling prevention device and a cylinder connection device compatible with the appliance. The cylinder supply system must be arranged for vapor withdrawal and include a collar to protect the cylinder valve.
  • Fire Pit Media: Requires 26.4 lbs of glass beads or lava rock.
  • Ignitor Battery: Requires one AAA size battery (1.5 V), which is NOT included.

Usage Features

  • Assembly: The product requires assembly, with detailed instructions provided. A Phillips screwdriver (not included) is required. Bolts should be loosely attached initially and fully tightened only after all components are in place.
  • Gas Connection: For LP gas, the cylinder is placed into a support within the table base and connected to the regulator. For natural gas, a conversion process is required, involving disconnecting the propane hose and orifice, replacing the propane orifice with a natural gas orifice, and connecting the natural gas hose to the gas valve and supply piping system. This conversion must be performed by a qualified service agency.
  • Lighting Instructions:
    1. Push in the gas control knob slightly and turn to "OFF".
    2. Turn the gas control knob to "ON/MIN".
    3. Push in the gas control knob all the way and hold, then press the ignition button for 15 seconds.
    4. If the burner does not light within 15 seconds, release the knob, wait 5 minutes, and repeat steps 1-3.
  • Turning Off Gas: Push in the gas control knob slightly and turn to "OFF".
  • Flame Appearance: When lit, the burner should display blue and yellow flames, approximately 1-2 inches in height. Flames should not be yellow or produce thick smoke, which indicates an obstruction of airflow.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Fire/Explosion Hazard: If gas odor is detected, shut off gas, extinguish open flames, leave the area, and call the gas supplier or fire department.
    • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: This appliance produces carbon monoxide and must never be used in enclosed spaces (camper, tent, car, home).
    • Hot Surfaces: Surfaces become hot during and after use; allow ample cooling time before touching or moving.
    • Children: Children and adults should be alerted to high surface temperatures. Young children must be carefully supervised.
    • Flammable Materials: Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors/liquids near the appliance. Keep the fuel supply hose away from heated surfaces. Never use the appliance closer than 10 feet from anything flammable (houses, tree branches).
    • Solid Fuels: DO NOT burn solid fuels in this appliance.
    • Water Damage: Do not use if any part has been under water; call a qualified service technician.
    • Glass Beads: Keep children away from glass beads during assembly as they are small and can be swallowed. Do not completely cover the burner element or block the pilot box with glass beads. Preheat glass beads for 15 minutes during first use to burn out impurities.
  • Chair Cushions: Seat cushions are made with high-density foam. They may feel firm initially but will soften with continued use.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Use warm soapy water for cleaning; never use flammable or corrosive cleaning agents. Keep the area around the burner dry and do not submerge the control valve assembly.
  • Airflow: Ensure controls, burner, and circulating air passageways are kept clean and unobstructed. Signs of blockage include gas odor with extreme yellow flames, insufficient temperature, uneven flames, or popping noises.
  • Burner Maintenance: Spiders and insects can nest in the burner or orifice, which is dangerous. Clean burner holes with a heavy-duty pipe cleaner or compressed air. Clean the burner with warm soapy water if carbon deposits develop.
  • Hose Inspection: Before each use, inspect the hose for excessive abrasion, wear, or damage. Replace the hose assembly if damaged, using only the specified replacement.
  • Burner Inspection: Before each use, inspect the burner for damage. Replace the burner if damaged, using only the specified replacement.
  • Leak Test: Always perform a leak test before lighting the appliance or each time the cylinder is connected. Use a solution of one part liquid dishwashing detergent and three parts water. Apply drops to connections (cylinder-regulator, natural gas fixture-supply piping, gas valve-bellows, gas valve-hose, inlet tube-bellows) and check for bubbles. If bubbles appear, the connection has a leak; disconnect, reconnect, and retest. If leaks persist, the part is defective and should be replaced, or call a gas appliance service shop/supplier. Do not smoke or use open flames during a leak test.
  • Storage: When not in use, turn off the gas at the supply cylinder. If storing indoors, the cylinder must be disconnected and removed from the appliance. Disconnected cylinders must be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children, with threaded valve plugs tightly installed.
  • Covering: Place the burner cover onto the fire bowl when not in use to protect it from elements. After use, allow the fire pit to cool COMPLETELY (at least 30 minutes) before placing the lid to prevent scalding. Cover the entire fire pit with an outdoor weather cover when not in use.
  • Professional Inspection: Installation and repair should be done by a qualified service person. The appliance should be inspected before use and at least annually by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning may be required.
