Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the VES Ecovent EVH Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Ecovent Hybrid Ventilation Unit (HVU) is a sophisticated ventilation system designed for efficient air management in various environments. These units are available in a range of sizes (0, 1, 2) and are equipped with centrifugal EC fans, offering sequential fan sizes (4). They operate on a 230V 50Hz single-phase power supply.

Function Description

The Ecovent HVU is primarily designed for hybrid ventilation, combining natural and mechanical ventilation strategies to optimize indoor air quality and energy efficiency. The unit can be configured with various heating and cooling options, including LPHW (Low Pressure Hot Water) coils, chilled water coils, or electric heater batteries. For installations requiring specific air quality monitoring, options for a Room CO2 Sensor Control and a Fresh Air Temp Sensor (SELV) are available. Gas proving systems (Flamefast or Merlin) can also be integrated for enhanced safety.

The units are designed for bottom access orientation with horizontal airflow, making them suitable for drop-rod or ceiling-void mounting. They are intended for connection to a wall or window-mounted louvre, either directly or via a specific transition duct. A key feature is the incorporation of a site-specific splitter (supplied by others) to ensure separate supply and exhaust airflows. A 30mm wide splitter channel is centrally positioned on the unit to assist with alignment and is removable if not required. For flush mounting against wall openings, a finishing flange is available.

Usage Features

The Ecovent HVU offers flexible control options. For units with fitted VES controls, various arrangements are available, including master and slave configurations. The control panels (e.g., EPEL2022 and EPEL2008/EPEL2009) provide intuitive interfaces for managing the unit's operation.

  • EPEL2022 Control Panel: This panel includes a "Fresh Air Boost" switch, a "Pause" switch, temperature adjustment switches (12°C/12°C), and an "Open Windows" indication.
    • Fresh Air Boost: Activates a maximum fresh air intake for a pre-set period or until the switch is operated again. It can also be configured for automatic operation after a pre-set period.
    • Pause Switch: Temporarily suspends operation for a pre-set period or until operated again.
    • Temperature Adjustment: Allows users to adjust the heating mode setpoint by 2°C.
    • Open Windows Indication: Illuminates when external temperatures reach a suitable level for manual window opening. It can also indicate when CO2 levels are high, encouraging manual opening.
  • EPEL2008/EPEL2009 Control Panels: These panels offer similar functionality, with EPEL2008 including temperature trim and EPEL2009 being a no-trim version. They feature "Boost/Pause" switch, "Boost/System Healthy" active indication, "Open Windows" indication, and optional +/- 2°C temperature trim switch.
    • System Healthy Indication: A green LED indicates normal operation. A flashing red LED indicates a system fault.
    • Diagnostic Mode: The control panels can enter a diagnostic mode, displaying specific LED sequences to indicate various alarms such as supply fan failure, frost hazard, or no hot water alarm.

The units are designed for easy integration into building management systems (BMS) via Modbus/Bacnet MS/TP connections. They also support fire alarm shutdown. Remote HMI (Human Machine Interface) via an RJ45 unit socket and a teacher's control switch are available for convenient control.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of the Ecovent HVU. The manual emphasizes the importance of safety during any maintenance work, requiring the electrical supply to be fully isolated.

  • Access: The units feature bulkhead-mounted fan plate assemblies and bottom-access units. Large access panels are provided for easy access to internal components. The control access cover must be removed before accessing the unit.
  • Fan Impeller Cleaning: The fan impeller should be cleaned every 6 months to prevent loss of fan performance. If the fan is stationary for long periods in a humid atmosphere, it should be switched ON for a minimum of two hours every month to remove any moisture that may have condensed within the motor.
  • Fan Motors: Fan motors are maintenance-free due to the use of ball bearings with 'life-long lubrication'.
  • Dampers and Frames: Damper blades and frames should be kept clean and lubricated with PTFE aerosol or equivalent.
  • Heating Coil Cleaning: For units with integrated heating, the heating coil should be inspected for debris, dust, or dirt build-up. If found contaminated, foreign matter should be removed accordingly; superficial dust or debris can be removed from the surface of the heat exchange by gently brushing. Loosened debris can then be vacuumed from the surface of the coil.
  • Plug & Socket Connection: Ecovent® EVH units feature plug & socket connections to allow easy removal/replacement of key components. These connections are designed for secure fitment, and care must be taken not to pull the cables directly.
  • Fan Assembly Removal: The fan assembly is secured by fixing screws and can be removed by sliding it out after loosening the screws. This allows for easy replacement or maintenance of the impeller.
  • Damper Blades: The fresh air damper actuator features a clutch release button, allowing manual rotation of the damper blades.

For any doubts regarding wiring, special versions, or incorrect fan rotation, customers are advised to contact VES Customer Services, quoting the sales order (SO) number and unit type. The manual also provides guidance on WEEE Directive compliance for end-of-life disposal.
