Overview

The Vestil EPT-Series Electric Pallet Trucks are durable, high-quality material handling devices designed for lifting and transporting loads. These units combine safety features with low-maintenance mechanisms, making them suitable for various industrial and commercial applications. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for safe operation and maintenance, emphasizing the importance of user familiarity with all procedures.

Function Description

The EPT-Series Electric Pallet Trucks are designed to lift and transport palletized loads. They feature a hydraulic system for raising and lowering forks, and an electric motor for propulsion. The control yoke and handle provide intuitive control over movement, lifting, and safety functions. The units are equipped with a battery and an integrated charger, ensuring continuous operation. Optional scale components are available for models that require on-the-go weighing of loads.

    • Overall Size (W x L x H): 30 in. x 78.5 in. x 49 in.

All models operate on a 24VDC (1.3kW) DC motor for the hydraulic pump. The drive motor circuit fuse is 150 Amp, the pump circuit fuse is 100 Amp, and the control circuit fuse is 5 Amp.

Usage Features

The EPT-Series pallet trucks are designed for user-friendly operation with several key features:

  • Control Yoke and Handle: The handle incorporates a throttle seat with switches, raise/lower buttons, and a horn switch operator. The throttle knobs (left and right) control movement, while the emergency reverse switch cover provides an additional safety measure.
  • Movement Controllers ("Butterfly" Switches): These switches allow operators to drive the EPT forward or in reverse. The degree of rotation directly correlates to the travel speed, with a maximum speed of ~3mph unloaded and ~2.6mph loaded to capacity. Releasing the control wheel brings the EPT to a complete stop.
  • Battery Charge Gauge: Located on top of the main body, this gauge indicates the battery's status. Display lines disappear from right to left as the battery discharges, prompting the operator to ensure the battery is charged before use.
  • Belly Switch (Emergency Stop): This safety feature protects the operator when driving in reverse. When pressed, the truck changes direction (moves forward) for approximately 3 seconds before stopping completely. If the switch jams, the stacker will move forward for at most 3 seconds, and the control circuit will remain disabled until reset. Resetting involves returning the control yoke to the fully vertical or horizontal position.
  • Emergency Stop ("E-STOP") Button: Pressing this red button immediately interrupts all powered functions, serving as a service brake when parked or in case of abnormal operation.
  • Power Activation:
    • EPT-30 models: Feature a removable, red key-like power disconnect switch. Turning the switch clockwise turns on power, and counterclockwise turns it off.
    • EPT-45 models: Activated by pulling the red E-stop button up. Power is turned off by pressing the button down.
  • Magnetic Brakes: The EPT utilizes magnetic brakes that engage when the handle is in or near either of the neutral positions (1 and 3). The yoke automatically returns to neutral position #1 when released, ensuring the brakes engage automatically.
  • Load Handling: Operators can raise and lower forks using dedicated buttons on the handle. The units are designed to lift and transport evenly distributed loads within their rated capacity.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines several maintenance procedures to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the EPT-Series pallet trucks:

  • Pre-Use Inspection: Before each use, operators must inspect the unit for debris, structural damage (forks, carriage, wheels), and leaks of hydraulic fluid or battery acid. Any damage or abnormalities require the unit to be tagged "Out-of-Service" and reported to maintenance personnel.
  • Functions Test: A comprehensive functions test is required before use, including raising/lowering forks, testing the E-stop button, checking the belly switch, driving in forward/reverse, and testing the horn. The control yoke's automatic return to the vertical position must also be verified.
  • Component Replacement: The manual provides detailed instructions and diagrams for replacing various components, including:
    • Cylinder
    • Throttle Assembly
    • Motor Assembly
    • Forward/Reverse Contactor
    • Battery Charger
    • Adding Quencharcs
  • Storage: The EPT should always be stored in a secure, dry location where it will not interfere with traffic. When parked, the forks should be fully lowered, and the skid or pallet completely disengaged.
  • Unauthorized Modifications: Users are explicitly warned against modifying the pallet truck without written authorization from Vestil, as this can compromise safety.
  • Compliance: Owners/end-users are responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, codes, and non-voluntary standards in the location where the product is used.

The EPT-Series Electric Pallet Trucks are robust tools designed to enhance efficiency in material handling, provided that all safety and maintenance guidelines are strictly followed.
